Well, in all honesty Debo I think people make it out to be a lot worse than it actually is.

You frequently see threads in Communications asking to 'clean up' certain forums. And while redundancy is a big problem, especially in the new movie forums, I don't think it is causing the demise of the JC.

The influx of new users to the JC gave new life to the forums, and started a new generation of Star Wars fans online. However, with new users comes the ignorance of topics discussed to death. In the movie forums, the moderators have done a great job of keeping things in line.

The only problem I really see is that the administration is applying the same tactics to Community. I think the community forum is a bit too over moderated, at least compared to how it was a year, or two years ago. Many of the threads now that are considered spam, were what made up the lifeblood of community previously. And with the creation of the Senate and Amphitheater, the once great crown of the community forum is now a tarnished brass emblem, as much of the serious discussion has gone away to people who take it too seriously sometimes. EDIT: the above thread is exactly what I'm talking about, it was all in good fun.

But in the end, there are hundreds of SW messageboards, and this one is still the king, for good reason.

Well, it appears that the rumors are true. Darth_Ignant has indeed left us to eat dinner and watch TV. Unfortunately, the powers that be prevented me from really delving into the situation, but I was able to get a reaction from Kerr_Plunk who witnessed the whole thing. Here is what she had to say...

What an age we live in. You know, 100 years ago, you couldn't just go out and get fried chicken. No, there was much more to it than that. And by the time you actually ate the fried chicken, you'd probably be too tired to brag about it, or even participate in the ritualistic wet squirrel beatings that took place after a night of finger-licking goodness.

 

Well, this DJ doesn't understand any JC lingo, and he likes to keep it that way.

So no mangos, cages, applesauce, green apples, teh, or whatever -- unless you want to suck.

Hello, this is Terr_Mys - long time fan of the show, I love what you guys do. In reaction to B'omarr's statements, I'd just like to say that I agree to some extent. The JC Community is a place to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Sure, redundancy can be annoying, but that's what makes the JCC so amusing. On other boards with more serious discussion, like the Amphitheatre or the Senate Floor, redundancy and off-topic posting is a bad idea. I think that's part of the reason why these two forums were seperated from the JCC. However, I do think that the quality of threads in the JCC has declined recently. C'mon guys, let's all be better posters! And that's my two cents.

Thanks for the reply, Terr. I actually agree with you completely, however I think that the mods should relax the spam rules a little in Community. Now that they've taken away serious topics to two other forums, we're left with social threads, review threads and advice threads, and almose everything else is considered spam.

I'm not sure how long you have been around, but about a year ago, things were completely different. There were rampant goofy and spamish topics everywhere, and it made the place a lot of fun.

To re-emphasize my point, I just think that maybe Community is a bit over moderated at the moment, a lot of threads that are good fun are just sometimes closed.

Or maybe it's a cycle we're going through and I'm completely wrong. Who knows?
