Saga Because we're of two worlds--An Anakin/Padme songfic

This is my third of seven Valentine's vignettes.

This is a song by Selena called "Amor Prohibido"--Forbidden Love--that seemed very appropriate to this couple for obvious reasons. The translation is my own, but if you're interested, here are the original lyrics and the translation unseparated.

The Order had been promising a Jedi briefing for three days now and still the Jedi in question were delayed by the fighting. It wouldn't have been so bad if Anakin weren't one of those that she was expecting.

There had been too many messages, wrought with frustration that she could fully understand as he reported that they would arrive as soon as the war permitted, but she recognized that his eyes flicked to her, noting with relief that she was waiting just as anxiously as he for the moment in which he could breathe the same air as her.

Perhaps that was the only reason why there was regret in his voice when he asked for them to be patient with the delays.

When I'll hear your voice

That apologetic tone was probably the only reason why she was able to forgive him for making excuses instead of making his way home, but it was almost enough to have him call every day. It was almost a comfort to have his low voice rumbling in her ears and keeping time with her heart.

And when in the end
We two are together

Today, however, there was no message from him and she thought for a breathless moment that he might be in transit to deliver his apologies in person.

When her comm rang, therefore, she answered it in an unforgiving mood.

"Senator Amidala," Anakin greeted with a hint of pleading in his voice, "I have just arrived on Coruscant and will be briefing the Senate tomorrow morning."

Immediately, her heart leapt into her throat so that it was difficult to get the words out. For a long moment, she let her quickened breathing answer his statement.

"Senator Amidala?" there was a little more humor in his voice as he recognized her sentimental side.

"Knight Skywalker," she greeted with more formality than she'd have ever liked, "I was hoping you would join me at my personal office to go over the details of your briefing."

"As milady commands," he said graciously.

"How soon can you be here?"

"Right now," Anakin's voice called from the veranda.

She ran to him without even bothering to slap off the comm, hands finding the lines of his jaw immediately so she could pull him into a kiss that had passion and intensity competing for top priority.

Oh, how beautiful. I like the end - it's so hopeful, despite what really happened. And the beginning as well, where she thought that the only reason he was patient, etc, was because of her. Lovely!

I love this line. The whole section it comes from is gorgeous but that line sticks out the most for me.
