she was my favourite handmaiden...

 

Thanks for the reply Yazid. I really had thought hard about that. Dorme's death is going to be used for something down the road, so it won't be for nothing. She was one of my favorite handmaiden's too. It kind of bother me to have her die so soon, but it had to be done.

Anakin allowed Obi-Wan to help him to his wife's Sick Bay Room. The Doctors and Healers both exclaimed that her pregnancy was still strong, all though she herself seemed to be growing weaker.

He had lost so much in his twenty-one years all ready.

First his Mother Shmi...Then Qui-Gon Jinn.

The love and teachings of Obi-Wan had helped him through most of those years. Obi-Wan had not only been a Teacher, but he had made a point of being a Father Figure too. Even a Brother in some ways.

In all that Obi-Wan had given him, had never made up for the loss of his Mother. Not even losing Qui-Gon Jinn.

When he had found Padme again however, everything had changed. Anakin was filled with hope and ideas for the family that was long lost to him. He could picture clearly of Padme living on Naboo with two small infants in her arms. Her eventually teaching them to walk in the long lush lawns. The sun beaming down on them...

His dear Wife would be so happy there.

Anakin knew that her heart was filled with pain at not being home with her family. In her years of Office she had lost so much time with them.

"Ani, is that you?

"My love...I'm here."

Anakin managed to hold her hand, and sat down at her bedside.

He wanted to tell her that everything would be all right. He wanted to tell her not to give up hope on her dreams.

But that would be living a lie.

Something that Anakin had promised his Wife that they would never do.

Anakin stayed in his wife's hospital room for hours, until she finally fell asleep again for the night cycle.

Anakin then exited and walked down a long clear corridor toward the waiting area, where he knew Obi-Wan had been
waiting to hear information on how Padme was fairing.

Despite what the Jedi Council had decided in removing Anakin from the Order, Anakin could sense that his Master
had been in deep conflict over the outcome.

Obi-Wan had believed in him even when his Padawan had abandoned every teaching he'd offered him, all in the name
of love.

"Master?"

Anakin found Obi-Wan Kenobi staring out at a late night view of Imperial City.

The Air Traffic buzzed passed the windows, and the city was lit up like the skys of space itself.

It was truly a beautiful sight.

Anakin knew he would miss it dearly and deeply.

Obi-Wan stood up upon hearing his old Padawan's voice, and slowly felt fear creep up in his chest at the look that was
in Anakin's blue eyes. He'd never seen the young man look so haunted. Even the loss of his mother hadn't bothered him
so deeply.

"How is she?" Obi-Wan dared to ask.

Anakin began to shake slightly and allowed Obi-Wan to steady him. Obi-Wan then saw how pale Anakin looked. The
whole situation was making the young man sick to his stomach.

It bothered Obi-Wan even more at realizing there was no possible way that he could protect Anakin from this pain.
Anakin was no longer his young student. He was no longer the little boy he had taken in eleven years ago, all in the
name of a dying man's last request.
Anakin Skywalker was now a man.

But he would still be here for him.

Not because that was what a former Master would do for his old Student.

Not because Anakin was the best friend that Obi-Wan had ever come to have.

It was because that was what a Father would do for his Son, and Obi-Wan was the only Father that Anakin
Skywalker had ever known.

"She'll get through this, Ani," Obi-Wan whispered softly. "Padme' is strong in the Force. Have faith in her strength, as
she would in you."

"I can't protect her anymore, Master," Anakin exclaimed, with deep sadness and heartache. "If we stay here, or even
go to Naboo as she wants too, I fear that she will die."

Anakin then forced his rapid breathing to calm and continued, "We can no longer stay here. It's not safe. Not until I
know who is trying to kill her at least."

"I have an idea that just might work." Obi-Wan said.

"I request leave to escort Senator Amidala to a safe haven," Obi-Wan Kenobi asked the two Senior Jedi Council members late the next morning. "The Senator barely escaped this last attempt on her life, and her husband deeply fears that another will destroy her."

"Foreseen this, Skywalker has," Yoda murmered softly, his wide and vivid eyes closed. "Agree with Mr. Skywalker, on this, I do."

Obi-Wan sighed in deep impatience, "Then may I take the Senator to a safe haven?"

Mace Windu spoke next and asked, "What will Mr. Skywalker be doing when you escort the Senator, Obi-Wan?"

"Anakin will be investigating who was behind the attack on his wife," Obi-Wan announced with a half smile, and then added, "Anakin did not feel that I would have the blessing of the Council to investigate myself, so I come to you both now at his insistance with this suggestion instead."

Mace Windu looked furious and outraged. Yoda chuckled softly and smiled.

"Planned this well, Skywalker has," Yoda smiled. "Agree with his plans I do. Take the Senator to a safe haven, you will."

Obi-Wan grinned widely, "Thank you, Master Yoda."

Obi-Wan turned to leave.

"Obi-Wan?"

Kenobi stopped at Windu's calling, and turned around to face the Jedi Masters once more.

"Yes, Master Windu?"

"Tell Anakin to beware of the Dark Side," Windu stated in such a way, it made Obi-Wan raise his guard, as that was all that Windu said.

"I will, Master Windu," Obi-Wan knodded, using the Force to calm his concerns. "Don't worry!"

Kenobi then exited the Jedi Council Chamber at a brisk pace. It would be the last time he would set foot there again.

"I don't want to leave you," Padme told her husband softly, as Anakin and Obi-Wan told the Senator of their plans, inside of her hospital room. "Please, Ani. I have a bad feeling about all of this. Come with Obi-Wan and I at least. For a little while."

Anakin smiled bravely, and kissed his wife's soft lips in a quick kiss, "Do you trust me?" He whispered.

"You know I do," Padme promised. "With my life."

"Then please go with Obi-Wan to the location he's chosen," Anakin urged. "You'll be safe there. If you stay with me-I fear- I know you'll no longer be safe. Trust that I know this is the right thing. I'll join you both there when I have afew leads."

"I trust you," Padme promised. "I'll go with Obi-Wan to Tatooine. It will be good to see Owen and Beru again. I'll tell them we are sorry that we missed the wedding. And that we're sorry for their loss."

"Tell them I'll be there soon," Anakin whispered, feeling that was what his mother would want him to do. For her. Say goodbye to that life for her, and the new and loving life that she had found there in his absence.

"I will," Padme whispered back.

The lovers kissed deeply and Anakin forced himself to turn away first.

"I love you," He told her. "I truly, deeply..."

"I know," She smiled.

Anakin smiled in return and then turned around to face Obi-Wan.

"Take care of her," Anakin said, and then added quickly. "Yourself as well, Master."

"I will, my Padawan," Obi-Wan vowed. "I promise."

Anakin embraced Obi-Wan tightly, before turning back to his wife for a last goodbye.

They embraced as well, and sealed their feelings with a last and final kiss, before letting go, and whispering final words of love.

"Pack your things," Obi-Wan told Padme after Anakin left. "It's time to go."

Obi-Wan escorted Padme to her apartment in the capital, and she had afew of her Handmaidens that were still assigned to her by Queen Jamilla's Order, to pack away only afew of her clothes and personal items to take with her to Tatooine. The rest was to be shipped back to Naboo to her Island Retreat Home where she lived with Anakin for the first few days of their marriage.

The Senator had whispered to him that she would hold onto hope that one day she and Anakin could return there. It had been the most wonderful and peaceful time, she had ever known in her life.

Obi-Wan had expressed the same hope for her. If anyone could make his Padawan that happy and content with himself, Obi-Wan knew it would be wrong to stand in their way.

Plus, it was to late to express any concerns over the union now. What was done was done. Padme would in afew short months give birth to Anakin's children. A boy, and a girl. Each would have their own special touches on the Force. Anakin, or himself, would see that their powers would be used to the fullest extent possible.

In these dark times, the Jedi twins would need all the protection they could get.

Their Mother the most of all.

Obi-Wan studied the young woman carefully, as she helped her aides pack away the last of her things.


Padme still appeared weak and weary from the attack. That worried Obi-Wan on how this long trip would be on her.

What would the cost be?

At least she would be with friends during this time away from her husband. They were her in-laws in fact. Family. Anakin's family.

It would be interesting to meet the Lars'. The family that Anakin would have had, if the boy hadn't chosen to leave his home eleven years ago with Qui-Gon, Himself, Jar Jar, and Padme.

Obi-Wan had often dreamed of what Anakin's life would have been like. Should have been like

Lost in the warm day dreams of the childhood that never had been for Anakin, Obi-Wan refused to let the real nightmares sink in, as any dream that he ever had of his Padawan, never had a happy ending.
