Hey guys, LJS here. On the behalf of all the co-hosts, I would like to apologize for the confusion that has occured and answer the questions diane asked (yes, all of them) plus some others that have arisen.

1. Length - is it still 800 words?
The length is 900 words, but... (see below)

2. Author's note? are they allowed? Are they included in the length limit?
Any author's notes that you make are included in that limit.

3. Coding - do you want a space at the start of the coding such as [ i] something here to make it easier for you?[/i]
YES

4. Can we delete portions of the middle of an excerpt to get it under the length limit?
Yes, you may.

5. Does the excerpt have to be from the posting timeperiod of the awards?
It's up to the author's discretion, but the hosts strongly suggest that it be from within the period or later (as in you have a post that you just put up, but that's not part of the eligibility period. You can use that).

6. I assume you want the link such as [ link=] whatever[/link]
YES

7. For best author/best new author, do you want excerpts from the specific era only?
YES

8. I assume you want it sent to the appropriate Awards sock.
YES

9. Do you want all the appropriate era excerpts in one PM? (all Saga excerpts sent at the same time in one PM to Saga sock; all BTS excerpts sent in a different PM to BTS sock, etc)
If possible YES

Personally, I'm sending PMs out, but that's up to the hosts. I know that hasn't always been done so (I've been caught flat-footed when it came to sending an excerpt in when I didn't know I'd qualified, and only got it in because a host PMmed me a day after it was due).

Also, apparently the question has risen, what about series excerpts? Just pick the excerpt you think best represents the series as a whole. Authors up in the author categories also send in excerpts (whatever you think best represents your writing as a whole)

Hello everybody. LJS popping in here with a couple reminders and some information.

1. The deadline for getting excerpts in is being discussed. I'm terribly sorry about the confusion/anxiety that it's going to produce, but the only solution that I can give right now is get your excerpts in now so you're not cut off by a changing date.

2. I just got data back from some volunteers regarding the stories/authors that were nominated and qualified for the awards. Unfortunately, the following two authors are not eligible for the "New Author" category:

Mystralgurl

I'm sorry we didn't catch this earlier, but unfortunately, the information just came in. Both of the authors have posted stories prior to the eligibility date. So now the "New Author" category has been modified to be this:

Again, I apologize for the confusion and hope that things settle out and work well.

I have a question. When i go do the authors note, can i make it like the main character is speaking? In my case, the main character is Obi-Wan. So in the authors note, he's actually explaining the story.

Does that make sense?

 

Yeah it does. You can set up your author's notes anyway you want (although you might want to make it clear who's speaking).

I just want to say this to make it easy for everyone. I've started coding excerpts and it's a lot of work. Unfortunately, it's made harder if nominees don't include all the information.

Please include in your PM:

-the category for which you're nominated
-your name
-the title of the fic
-A LINK
-AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE LEAVE A SPACE IN THE MARK-UP CODES (it takes a lot of time to do them otherwise and while I've added them now, I think that people who'll do the coding later and who will get even more excerpts won't necessarily bother to do it. They won't have the time. So, in your own interest, please send in your excerpts with that information.)
