A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a boy named Anakin Skywalker who lived as a slave on the desert planet Tatooine.
One day, Anakin was freed by a Jedi Knight, guardian of peace and justice in the Galactic Republic, who took him to Coruscant, the Galactic Capital, where the Jedi Council resided. They discovered that Anakin had an unusually strong attunement to the Force, an energyfield which lends the Jedi Knights superhuman powers, and that he might be the chosen one, prophesized to bring balance to the Force. It was soon decided that he was to be trained as a Jedi under the mentorship of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Ten years later, Anakin and Obi-Wan were assigned to protect the young senator Padmé Amidala from assassination. Obi-Wan was sent to track down the assassin, while Anakin and Padmé went to hide on Padmé's homeplanet, Naboo. Love began to blossom between the two young souls, but they both knew that they could not let that happen, for the Jedi were forbidden to form attachments, because that could lead to the dark side of the Force.
As Obi-Wan delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding Padmé's assassin, however, he discovered an army of clones made for the Republic and the hiding place of a separatist movement. Soon, the galaxy was thrown into fullscale war. Facing such immense danger, the two young lovers decided to give in to their feelings for eachother. Not long thereafter, they were secretly married, before Anakin was sent with Obi-Wan to fight in the war.
During the war, Anakin completed his Jedi training, but he continued fighting alongside Obi-Wan until the war was almost over, when Obi-Wan was sent on his own to Utapau to defeat General Grievous, a Separatist leader. Meanwhile, Anakin struggled with inner demons as visions of Padmé dying in childbirth kept haunting his dreams. He knew that as a Jedi, he should accept that people come and go in life, but he loved Padmé too much to be able to let her go.
The solution presented itself in the form of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate, who turned out to be a Sith Lord, a practitioner of the dark side of the Force. Palpatine promised Anakin the power to save Padmé's life if Anakin would join him. Desperate to keep Padmé alive, Anakin pledged himself to the Sith teachings. He was given the name Darth Vader and sent to kill all the Jedi who were in the Jedi Temple, while Palpatine sent orders to all Clone Commanders to kill the Jedi who were spread across the galaxy. Then, Anakin went to the volcanic planet of Mustafar to kill the remaining Separatist leaders.
Obi-Wan, who had survived the clone attack, met up with Jedi Master Yoda. They discovered what had happened and split up to destroy the Sith. Yoda went for Palpatine, Obi-Wan went for Vader. While this transpired, Palpatine publicly announced the reorganization of the Republic into the first Galactic Empire. The democracy had turned into a dictatorship and the Sith now ruled the galaxy.
Unbeknownst to Padmé, Obi-Wan went aboard her ship as she travelled to Mustafar to speak with Anakin. When Obi-Wan revealed himself, Anakin thought that Padmé had betrayed him and tried to strangle her to death. Obi-Wan told him to let her go and very soon, the two former friends were engaged in a fierce lightsaber duel.
Meanwhile, Yoda sought out Palpatine and fought him. He was unable to defeat the Sith Lord, however, and decided to flee. Obi-Wan, on the other hand, managed to incapacitate Anakin by cutting off his arm and legs. Then he watched as the fires of Mustafar burned Anakin beyond recognition. Believing that Anakin was dying, Obi-Wan walked away, taking Anakin's lightsaber with him.
Anakin did not die, however. He was saved by Palpatine, who gave him new, robotic arms and legs and put him in a black, all-covering suit which helped him breathe. Palpatine then told him that Padmé had died because of what Anakin did to her. Anakin Skywalker was then lost in grief and hate and truly became Darth Vader, dark lord of the Sith.
