Beliefs influenced by SW?

Anyone else's beliefs (religious, political, etc) affected by Star Wars?

Obi-Wan's words: "Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together."...that quote really affected my personal religious beliefs. It has caused me to become more or less of a Pantheist.

Also, empires/totalitarianism/dictatorships = BAD

I'm not sure if you should let a fictional movie franchise affect your beliefs.

 

Are you saying you thought dictatorships and totalitarianism were good things before you saw Star Wars?

Why not? IMO the Bible is filled with a bunch of fictional tales that tell a moral...they are called parables. And yet people allow them to influence their decisions, morals, and life.

Star Wars is just a fictional story that has a lot of motifs, morals, and philosophical ideas spread around it.

 

And you needed Star Wars to reinforce that how exactly? I would have thought real world tragedies like the holocaust are enough to make it clear that a dictatorship is an evil thing.

No. They were great fun for my childhood and I will always have a place in my heart for Star Wars, but no, I don't think it had influence on my life or world views. It did probably make me part of a generation that loves the summer blockbuster.

 

My beliefs haven't been affected, but my habits have been...I fold the front of robes left-over-right every single time because that's how Jedi fold their robes, ha ha.

 

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi had a heavy influence in the shaping of the prism I see through.

I'm not saying that Star Wars is the only reason I have the beliefs I have today, but it did inspire me in certain areas

While I think there are a lot of positive views and actions to take from these films, they haven't played a role in my fundamental beliefs. Though I would absolutely love to be a Jedi, I am not about to convert to Jediism .
