ST Benicio del Toro (DJ) in TLJ

I think all Zeroh's info may have come from MSW, but I may be wrong. I would imagine that there are quite a few 'Prequel Era' ships knocking about in the GFFA, including the hero ship of SW itself.

 

DJ has a ship so DJ means Davy Jones

 

Yes, he's riffing off an MSW description of the ship which was that it looked like a prequel era ship combined with the interior of a Star Trek ship from the new films.

 

All of Padme's assorted Barges and Yachts would fit that description. If that was DJ's ship interior in the BTS reel then it's more like the consular vessel from TPM.

Huh. We'll they didn't tell us much but now I'm not so convinced that he had anything to with Rey ending up on Jakku.

 

I never bought that spec since his story is with Finn and Rose unrelated to Rey's journey.

So Benicio is the slicer? Wonder who that other guy is then. Really looking forward to seeing DJ on screen, hopefully the next trailer shows him off.

 

Sounds like he's not in the film anymore unless Making Star Wars got its info wrong about him being the slicer.

 

what's interesting is that droids are often the hackers... i don't think i've seen a human one in anything star wars? am i forgetting something? (i haven't watched every episode of rebels/tcw... i mean there are the augmented human/alien ones with cybernetics attached to their heads which i thought was because that's the only way to compete with a droid hacker...)

 

Sounds like a thief/criminal that Finn and Rose need to do their job-probably hacking into the First Order funds or something. Sounds pretty damn cool! A whole new type of character.

 

it just occurred to me, without having helper droids do everything on SKB - rey is R2's daughter after all just as A Chorus of Disapproval sussed out - there is overall a different feel. maybe after seeing how things go with his parents and luke and how they need R2 to do everything for them - open doors, hack into the city central computer, etc. - kylo realized that the FO should not use droids so freely, lest the resistance infiltrate bringing their droids. the empire was notorious for ignoring droids and welcoming them in every secure secret place such that they couldn't detect enemy infiltrator droids. so infiltrating the FO with a giant beeping rolling metal can simply isn't an option this time around.... (but they still have those little squeaky imperial droids... i'm sure they have been reduced to mere couriers now... and they can do inventory lol).

 

Yeah, I was wondering about the resistance and their monetary situation. They must be in dire need.

 

i would be fascinated by the resistance choosing to steal money from the FO. would that be a holdo decision or a leia one? or a poe one? (actually, it could be all finn's idea... though he wasn't an FO accountant exactly... so maybe not)

 

I'm pretty sure Finn and Rose go to Canto Bright to trace the funds of the First Order in order to "cut the head off the snake".

My first thought was that Rose was a dealer on that planet who was a lead to finding this imprisoned criminal needed to break out of jail. I was wrong about that, but maybe Rose once worked on Canto Bright.

 

I just really hope there's not a scene where the bad guys are coming to get Finn and Rose and they tell DJ to hack faster and he does, rapid button mashing and all.

To me it sounds like they go to Cantonica for the specific purpose of finding the best codebreaker in the galaxy. He is there because he is robbing rich folk. They probably need him to break the First Order's codes that in turn will reveal military plans. It might even reveal the location of the Mega Star Destroyer that Snoke is on.

 

i still am not sure why the best codebreaker in the galaxy isn't a droid... R2 can hack everything. and if not, there is always dr. aphra's old droids. whatever happened to those friendly droids?

 

DJ = hacker imprisoned on a casino planet for using his skills to win at gambling. And these skills will come in handy to the resistance obviously.

Well there's no reason why he can't still have anything to do with Rey if the disparate story threads are going to be coming together by the end of the film. If it's true DJ is going onto the SD with Finn and Rose then that plot line with him is converging with the other main plot lines of the film.
There's obviously something more to him then just being a great hacker, something that has to distinguish him from something any droid could probably do.

 

I think it's clear that Finn, Rose and Benicio steal a rich person's ship on Canto Bight, and use it to flee. Whatever ship Finn and Rose rode in on probably got destroyed.
