Rogue One. The closest thing to an actual saga film that actually fits into Lucas' saga.

A complete rewatch now would be I-III, R1, then IV-VI (and you could watch Solo on the side).

You could watch TFA of course but as there is no follow-up movie until IX comes it's just a cliffhanger.

I don't see how TLJ fits into all this from a saga perspective.

Rogue One by a country mile. It’s a fantastic Star Wars film.
LFL would be extremely wise to tap up Gareth Edwards again

Rogue One by default as I haven't seen Solo.

(... and somewhere out in the Maw, TFA and TLJ ask each other "Where the **** are we?" ...)

    TLJ, R1, TFA, Solo

I really like them all though, so this is all splitting hairs for me.

Tough to decide for me between Rogue One and Solo. Maybe my excitement for Solo is due to the movie being so new and with time my love will fade a little, but at least Rogue One has proven to be a worthy addition to the universe.

Rogue One for me, easily. It's the only one they've released that makes a previous Star Wars film better (ANH). I can't even watch Episode IV without watching Rogue One with it anymore. Solo's the only other one I care for. It was surprisingly good.

Much farther down on my list is The Force Awakens (too derivative and boring on rewatches) and The Last Jedi (made a subversive story for no reason and had no likable characters, in my opinion).

The Last Jedi - one of the most thoughtfully crafted films in the saga. This feels to most in touch with the themes of Lucas' films (IMO). TLJ is #3 on my list of all Star Wars films, right after SW and ESB.

The Force Awakens - a fantastic start to the new era of SW films. It feels familiar yet it also explores new directions and possiblities.

    ....
    ....

Rogue One - I've had trouble connecting with this one. I get what it's doing, but it has a very different feel from the saga films and just didn't grab me the way TFA did.

Solo - I've only seen it once so far, but I'm pretty sure it will remain my least favorite of the new films. Good but not great, and ultimately a story that I never really felt a need to see on-screen.

I've really enjoyed all four films, however. And while I really like the prequels, I'd have to say that overall I like the Disney era films better.

The Last Jedi and Rogue One are good movies. Solo and The Force Awakens are entertaining enough.

The Last Jedi isn't really subversive at all. It just pretends it's not going to do what you know it is going to do.

    I'll try the spacing thing:

TFA (Mainly because of where it seemed the ST was going-and some great action elements)
    -
Rogue One (It hit all the right notes, but didn't quite have the weight of a saga film)
    -
    -
Solo (Very enjoyable, but just not as good as Rogue One)
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
The Last Jedi (Obvious reasons which have been covered to death on this forum)

Solo and RO are as good as each other. I absolutely love both movies. In fact, both of them have caused me great guilt in that they are better than ANH, for me. TFA and TLJ are awesome, but the Anthology movies blow them out of the park.

    1. TESB
    =2. SOLO & RO
    4. ANH

    Brilliant. All for of 'em.

Interesting opinion. How do you square that with Disney jettisoning George's stories?

R1 has the most emotional impact for me.
    Solo is the most fun.
TFA is pretty good, but sorely lacking in originality.
TLJ took risks, some paid off richly, some bombed.

    Elaborating on both:

I found Solo a roller coaster ride (and I was sitting there is a fairly negative mood, not prepared to give the movie any likes it didn't earn the hard way (I was influenced by the anti-Disney-Lucasfilm mob) — yet it magaged to win my heart! I'm kinda pissed this movie seems to be boycotted, because it is one that I'm sure can be anjoyed by hardcore fans, casuals fans and also just people who end up at a cinema theater and then pick a movie.

Rogue One is magnificent too! A more adultish (I would have loved it as a 12yo too) SW movie. In addition, it features beautiful Felicity Jones whom I knew from that movie about professor Stephen Hawking) so in a way she bridges the Star Wars universe to the dude who mentally penetrated Black Holes!

Rogue One is the best by far, imo. I rank it second out of all the films, just behind Empire. I'm reading the novelization right now and it is excellent. Highly recommend it to fans of the film.

Rogue One is the only one that I'll even consider. It's the best of the Disney's because, being a prequel, there's only so much damage they can do without messing up the continuity. Having those parameters to rein them in, the movie is entertaining enough, even though it lacks the spirit of the originals.
