Best heavy metal song ever

Some may say Paranoid by Black Sabbath, or One by Metallica or even Born To Be Wild, but surely the best must be Ace of Spades by Motorhead

Three good choices for best heavy metal song of all time and three good arguments.

For me personally, Sabbath is the reason you can enjoy bands like Metallica and Motorhead, so "Paranoid" gets a slight edge over "One" and "Ace of Spades" in my mind.

Other ones to think about are:

1. "Rock & Roll All Night" - Kiss
2. "Runnin' With the Devil", "Unchained" and "You Really Got Me" - Van Halen
3. "Eat the Rich" - Motorhead
4. "Walk" - Pantera
5. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" - Metallica

 

Best ever and favourites can be two totally different things.

Best ever, I dunno. Deep Purple - Black Night, Smoke on the Water. Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, Stairway etc

Favourites. Metallica - Master of Puppets, One, For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Either way really.

Oh, hell. Not Paranoid, but Symptom of the Universe if you're looking for a Sab tune.

It's hard to disagree with Ace of Spades, and the reason is that it's the song that separates the real metal fans from the people who like the occasional metal tune or maybe one or two bands. People hear Motorhead and either love them or hate them, instantly. Personally, I think they're one of the greatest groups in history, and they totally kick ass live.

But calling any song the best ever in heavy metal is just wrong. A best-ever list might include:

Deep Purple: Highway Star
Slayer: Angel of Death
Metallica: Master of Puppets
Judas Priest: Victim of Changes
Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast
KISS: Deuce

And a whole load of others I'm not even going to bother listing...

You can pick an Ozzy solo song if you wish. there are more then enough classics there too.

I think You can't pick a best metal song, there are too many great ones.

Fade to Black is hardly metal...

Personally, I don't like Motorhead. Never heard Paranoid so I can't comment. The only true metal band that I like is Metallica and from them I'd say these are the best:

Disposable Heros, And Justice For All, Blackened, Eye of the Beholder, One, Master OF Puppets, Whiplash, God That Failed, The Struggle Within.

Out of those, I can't really pick a favorite.

 

"******* Hostile" by Pantera.

The song has some thing to say and sounds great.

 

Barns, I wanna bet that you heard paranoid before, you just don't know you did. it's a classic song really.

 

War Machine by KISS, Man In The Box by Alice In Chains, Walk by Pantera, Big Balls by AC/DC and Perfect Strangers by Deep Purple all have sentimental value for to me. If you know what those songs have in common, you get an imaginary cookie

Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden(and the cover by Cradle of Filth) is also a favourite of mine.

 

There was a worldwide poll about this a few years back, "Enter Sandman" by Metallica was number one.

 

Best known doesn't necesarilly = best
But Enter Sandman brings back memories too. Singpore canes make such a nice *wack* sound when they come into contact with someone's head at high speeds
