Who was the most skilled in purely lightsaber combat? Mace? Yoda? Sidious? Anakin? Obi-Wan? Dooku? Qui-Gon? Darth Maul?

Yoda, Sidious, and Mace are the top but I'm not sure in what order.

There can't be any arguments on this, Yoda and Mace are the greatest during the PT

By best, do you mean most effective or best performance ? Yoda jumping all over the place put on the best performance imo. I would say Darth Maul would be second.

You can definately tell he's more comfortable with the staff than the sword, but I'd rank him as #1. Dooku, Qui-Gon and Anakin are a very close second. Next, I'd put Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda and Sidious. Keep in mind, I'm just going by fighting skill we see on the screen. Taking the Force into consideration, then Mace, Yoda and Sidious would obviously lead the way, followed by Obi-Wan, Dooku, Anakin and Maul.

I would say Yoda. His ability to massacre clone troopers, and have Dooku running away is enough to tell me hes the best. Followed by Mace then Sidious, Anakin, Dooku, Kenobi, then Maul

Drawing on Star Wars legend, in no particular order, it would be Yoda, Mace and Sidious.
Yoda's a dynamo, Mace is a true swordsman, exacting, and Sidious is deceptive and slick with his style....

Mace, Yoda, and Sidious. In any order, because I feel they are very comprable.

Dooku is probably at least the equal of Mace. That means Anakin and Obi-Wan should be up there too.

Considering Obi-Wan beat the Chosen One, I'd rank him near the top. With Yoda and Sidious tied for first. Mace would come at about third. I just see Obi-Wan being better than him.

Darth Maul. He's a martial arts specialist and no other actor could handle a double-bladed lightsaber like he did. He was a total legend with it...shame he wasn't used more.

I'd probably say Yoda or Mace.

I'm not too keen on Yoda's style of fighting, same with Mace and would be in favour of saying that Darth Maul had the best style of fighting though.

Are we talking about by what we saw on screen? Because there's no way Mace or Sidious would be anywhere near the top. The Mace and Sidious fight sucked monkey balls and Sidious showed more skill with with the Force than with the lightsaber in his fight with Yoda. And Yoda jumped around more than anything else. He'd win best impersonation of a grasshopper on crack. The only characters who showed great skill with the lightsaber were Obi-Wan, Anakin, Dooku, Qui-Gon and Maul.

    Fair point.

Dooku was playing with him in AOTC, and in ROTS he made Obi-Wan look very, VERY ordinary.

Very TRUE about Dooku and Obi Wan. Dooku did defeat him. ButObi Wan waxed Anakin, while he was supposedly at his peak. Anakin handled Dooku easily. Obi Wan handled Anakin easily. Obi Wan also defeated Maul who seemed very skilled as duelist (considering he took on Obi Wan and Qui Gon, and killed QG). Even Yoda had a tough time with Dooku (he did not land a scratch on him) and I?m sure many would place Yoda very high.

So for whatever reason, Obi Wan had a tough time with Dooku (plot convenience?? Lol). But overall, he is the best duelist. It?s all about results. And Obi Wan gets them.

I think Anakin won the second duel with Dooku because Dooku was being too cocky. "Your swords please. We don't want to make a mess of things in front of the Chancellor." This outlines how cocky he was and he wasn't focusing on the duel. In AOTC, Dooku owned both Anakin and Obi-Wan because he was focused on the duel. Plus, he is an amazing swordsman, really skillful, as this was seen in AOTC. He handled two Jedi master's with no problem.

Obi won did not handle Anakin. He was having a very hard time up until the last moment of the duel. But thats for another thread.

True that Yoda did not land a scratch on Dooku, but Dooku ran away. If Yoda had time, I think most people would agree his constant pounding on Dooku, would cause the The Count to fall.
