Best music in a video game.

    Game soundtracks that come to mind for me include Donkey Kong Country 1-2, Super Metroid, Xenogears, MGS...any other really notable ones?

    Rez,
    No One Lives Forever (for the most kick ass theme tune ever),
    Vib Ribbon (an honerable mention),
    Force Commander (for the Techno Imperial Rock)
    Legend Of Zelda,
    Headhunter.

    Contra, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark and Super Metroid had pretty solid tracks...

    ..but the best game music I've ever heard is without a doubt The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Past. Every theme in that game is just so perfect it's mind boggling. The music of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were bigtime dissapointments compared to LOZ:ALTTP, to go from such grand epic adventure music to dull environmental music was a poor decision.

    Aside from the previously mentioned FFVII, I would add in FF3/6, FF2, MGS2, and the Tetris theme.

    Pop it into a CD player and put it on track 2. It's great.

    i love the FFVII soundtrack, one of my favorites! also the metal gear solid soundtrack. but you cant go wrong with tetris either!

    The goofy game "Apocolypse" with Bruce Willis had some good songs. More recently, I'd have to go with Medal of Honor: Frontline.

    And of course there's GTA3 where you can listen to opera, or fake 80s music. Not a wide song selection in each category, but a good choice of music types. I like to listen to opera during drive bys.

    Mechwarrior 2 Mercenearies had an awsome rock track.

    Halo was good.

    There's alot of good music out there that really sets a mood. There aren't too many classic songs that would survive outside of the game. I like games that you can create your own soundtrack.
