Having watched the 100 greatest musicals today (yes I really did sit still for 5 hours) I wondered what everyone thought of as the best musical ever?

Grease won, but this was a repeat of the show from 2003.

Sadly the votes were by people that only know about 5 musicals, so it didn't mean that much. Miss Saigon only at 99?? Pathetic.

It was nice to see all those clips and interviews though, regardless of where the shows came.

EDIT: Les Mis is my favourite by a mile

I don't really like most musicals, but I would say The Rocky Horror Picture Show is pretty good.

The Wizard of Oz is good too.

Reminds me of a line from Angel:
Spike: "Don't watch Les Mes. You'll be wanting to drink human blood again half way through".

I'm not really a fan of musicals but I saw The Producers up in London last summer. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

One thing I am very very ashamed of is that I have never seen Rocky.

I'm also afraid to say I'm a sucker for Lloyd Webber, despite his aparent lack of ability to write a decent harmony. EDIT: I take that back, there's 'Falling' from 'Aspects of Love'

Aspects is sadly underrated. Some great music in there, although the story is awful. I read the novella on which the musical is based, and it's a terrible book! Worse than an American soap opera! But the show is fantastic.

And I can't stand Rocky Horror. There's only one decent musical with "horror" in the title, and it involves a large plant

Little shop of horrors is great. [face_dancing]

Chess is underrated too. I never saw it on stage so I have no idea if the whole show is any good, but the OCR recording is great (despite some slightly dodgy singing from Murray Head, and it isn't Elaine Paige's best performance). Who would have thought songs about a chess tournament could be so good...

I thought it was good that Buffy made it. Although only 45 mins, it's still a musical

i like rocky horror, love little shop of horrors (my eldest son was in this as his last junior school production earlier this year), and i rate "tommy" over all the above.

however, my favorite musical has to be west side story, although it's been many a year since i saw it (but saying that i may pick it up for £2.99 with that magazine thing that's just come out)

Hmmmmm, a tough question this is

I would say Mary Poppins is the best
But there are others I would put on equal level with it like Wizard of Oz & Phantom of the Opera etc
