New and old canon's count, but I'm curious as to who people think are flatout the best combatants in the series who don't rely on the force or the "force sensitive" writing cheat.

For the time being, let's leave space battles aside. To start things off,

Obviously the top contenders is Boba Fett, he's the best Bounty Hunter in the galaxy for a reason. He's a pure clone, with no genetic enhancements other than the natural talent he inherited from his father, the rest is all experience.

Kyle Katarn is unfortunately disqualified as he was later confirmed as a force user.

HK-47 would also rank extremely high due not only to his design, but his fundamental understanding and hatred of how to exploit meatbag psychology.

I haven't caught up on Clone Wars, but Cad Bane seems extremely dangerous as well. Easily able to hold his own and win against very difficult circumstances.

The Jeby would make for a solid contender.

Han, Lando and Wedge have longevity on their side, though how much of that is pure character shielding is debatable.

Baron Fel, Tycho, Janson, Hobbie, Gavin Darklighter (+ Wedge again) are all supremely talented non force using flyers.

You've thrown in HK-47 so I'm going to mention Guri and General Grievous.

Other notables would be Shada Dukal, Shalla Nelprin, Canderous Ordo and Garik Loran (you've mentioned aspects of subterfuge and asymmetrical warfare above so I'm throwing his name up here).

    Based off skill?

Probably some Echani, maybe Raskta Fenni.

    Based off effectiveness?

Either a droid or a bounty hunter.

If he gets to use his X-Wing the answer is, hands down, Wedge Antilles. He is to piloting what Ali is to boxing or Gretzky is to hockey.

The non-serious answer- this species took on stormtroopers and AT-STs and won!

    :p

A bit more serious- Mandalorians are the simple answer in terms of being famous and very strong and tough. Yuuzhan Vong too, of course.

Noghri are very deadly too, being near perfect assassins (probably near Vong level, but not quite there).

Wedge and the Rogues and Wraiths are great too, though they're less brute strength and more very, very clever.

Wookiees are probably up there too- strong and smart and agile. Look at Chewbacca, it took a moon to kill him.

That species also captured the entire command element of the rebel strike team as well. And they were going to eat them for dinner.

    Wedge Motherf%(#ing Antilles.

The rest of the Rogues and Wraiths ain't no slouches either. As I recall from "I, Jedi," Tycho Celchu could hold his own against a Jedi in starfighter combat. And as I recall from... some LOTF book or other, Gavin Darklighter could shrug off Jedi mind tricks from Darth Caedus.

Otherwise, I agree on Cad Bane, HK-47, and General Grievous. And I'd like to add Durge to the mix.
