This is more difficult to say than with TPM - which had many great British actors. Hayden is great, of course; his character is the most complex hero of the saga. Natalie also; I think I don´t even need to say why...

From "minor" names I say Sam Jackson and Tem Morrison.

But there is no great number memorable characters of less importance. TPM had many: Sio Bibble, Panaka, Valorum etc. I liked even Ric Olié! Sio is in AOTC, yes, but he has hardly any dialogue.

Considering Ian's screentime is too little to determain a level of performance as being "best" it is obviously Ewan McGregor.

Hayden. Ewan McGregor expertly channels Alec Guiness, but his role is intrinsically less interesting than Christensen's. Although I will no doubt be flamed for this statement, I feel that Hayden's performance is the deepest, most complex character portrayal in the entire "Star Wars" saga; he succeeds in the difficult task of being able to imbue a wounded, arrogant character with a great deal of humanity and a deep sense of pathos. Luke Skywalker was more likable, and could be more easily deemed an "heroic" character, but he never contained this sort of inherent depth or interest.

I'm not going to flame you, because I do think there's merit to your statements about Hayden and Anakin. However, I definitely think the best hero side performance so far in the series is far and away Sir Alec Guinness in ANH.

I also love the fact that, even though there's an entire society here devoted to the wonderful Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor is still leading the poll :p Sorry Ian worshippers, but it's deserved.

    Hooray for Scots, though :)

    Ewan, hands down.

Ewan was great in TPM and just as good, if not better in AOTC. He is doing an amazing job as the young Obi-Wan and making me like one of my favorite characters even more.

Actually now he IS my favorite character.

He is also living up to the greatness of Sir Alec Guiness-something very hard to do I'm sure.

Best thing about prequels: seeing Obi-Wan in his prime.

Ian and Christopher Lee were great, too, but Ewan just takes the cake. He basically saved the movie. Although Ian and Chris were great, they weren't in it that much.

Sam Jackson has thusfar dissapointed me. He's a great actor and I don't think he shows his true colors in the SW prequels.

BOTTOM LINE: EWAN BABY! NO QUESTION!
