Port Adelaide v Adelaide. The players got into a barfight with each other once, because the two clubs have such vitriol towards each other.

    Also, Port sucks.

Also, rest of the league v Collingwood.

As far as College teams rivalries go can I ask what other Universities have their fight song dedicated to how much we hate our rival? Case in point. Here is Texas A&M's War Hymn:

    Goodbye to texas university,
so long to the orange and the white.
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies,
they are the ones who show the real old fight.
"The eyes of Texas are upon you,"
that is the song they sing so well (sounds like hell).
    So goodbye to texas university,
we're gonna beat you all to
    Chig-a-roo-garem, Chig-a-roo-garem,
Rough tough real stuff Texas A&M.

Saw varsity's horns off, saw varsity's horns off.
Saw varsity's horns off, SHORT! Ay!
Varsity's horns are sawed off, varsity's horns are sawed off.
Varsity's horns are sawed off, SHORT! Ayyyyyyyy!

Within the Chorus, "varsity" is meant to signify texas university because they are the longhorns. Any other rivalries have this?

The KU/Mizzou rivalry (not just in basketball, but in all sports) is rooted in the Border Wars during the Civil War. Seriously. The states don't have real battles anymore, just games, but the rivalry is much more deeply seeded in the history of the regions than almost any other sports rivalry I can think of. It's really not about quality of the teams. It's not even entirely about the sports.

Trust me, it's a huge rivalry in the Kansas City area, especially.

NFL: The entire NFC East. Some of the great all time rivalries are there.

Modern era: Peyton's Colts and Brady's Pats.

In international soccer nothing compares to Turkey/Greece. I have a Greek neighbor who burned Turkish flags on the day of their last game between the two. They hate each other.

I didn't think about NASCAR, but now that you mention it Tony Stewart vs. Jeff Gordon has been pretty intense in the last couple of years.

In the NHL, the classic all-time rivalry is Canadiens vs Maple Leafs, although sometimes the Maple Leafs vs Senators can almost eclipse the intensity. In the late 90s and early 00s, there was no rivalry more bitter than the Avalanche and Red Wings. Also, the Rangers vs either the Devils or Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames (or Edmonton vs Calgary in anything) deserves a mention. Too bad the Habs-Nordiques rivalry is only the stuff of legend. Witness this classic playoff bench-clearer from 1984 [link=]right here[/link] .

For MLB, Red Sox and Yankees win, no contest. I'd love to go to a game in either city when those two square off. The Giants and Dodgers could contend except I've heard that there's a lot more hatred on the Giants' fans' side for the Dodgers than the other way around. Could it be that only the Dodgers have won a World Series (several, in fact) since moving to California?

In the NFL, almost any intra-divisional matchup of AFC West, NFC East or NFC North rivals would be something to see. If I was to be at one of those games I'd take either the Raiders vs Denver or KC in the Black Hole, or the Bears visiting Green Bay.

In the CFL, any matchup of the Toronto Argonauts vs Hamilton Tiger Cats or Edmonton Eskimos vs Calgary Stampeders always gets the fans' blood boiling.

In the NLL (lacrosse), any matchup of East teams (Toronto Rock, Rochester Knighthawks, Buffalo Bandits and Philadelphia Wings) is usually hard-hitting and intense. If I could pick a rival for Toronto, it would be Buffalo. I've been to games where they've each not so much tried to beat each other as KILL each other.

Well, the rivalry doesn't nearly have the same juice as it had when the teams were in New York & Brooklyn: The Shot Heard 'Round the World will still be the defining moment for the rivalry.

What is funny is the reversal of fortunes for the two teams, as the Giants were an NL powerhouse before moving while the Dodgers had some flashes of brilliance (1955, really) but were generally the third best team in the city. But since moving to California, the Dodgers have won five World Series while the Giants have still been shut out.

MLB-- Red Sox vs. Yankees (this is a staple)

NBA-- Celtics vs. Lakers (this was the biggest rivalry of the eighties)

NFL-- Patriots vs. Colts (this is a new rivalry and is a battle the two best QBs in the game- but i admit there are older rivalries)

NHL-- Bruins vs Canadiens (this used to be cool, i dont know about modern hockey so thats my pick)

Mich- Ohio St, Duke vs UNC, Harvard vs Yale, Army Vs Navy

    Honorable mentions

MLB- St Louis vs Chicago Cubs, SF Giants vs Dodgers

NBA - Knicks vs Pacers, 76ers vs Celtics

NFL- Bears vs Packers, Dallas vs Washington, NYG vs Phil, Den vs KC

NHL-- NHL 94 vs Blades of Steele

Eh, the same can be said for anyone not living in Boston/NY about the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

The majority of North America is sick and tired of ESPN shoving "BOSTON-NY" down our throats. WE DO NOT CARE! Sadly, it still is probably the biggest rivlary in baseball.

The best current rivalry in the NHL is Ottawa-Toronto. (Last GREAT rivalry was Detroit-Colorado, but that died down once Patrick Roy and Claude Lemieux were gone.)

Basketball: Eh, really the best-developing rivlary is Lebron vs. The Pistons. It's quite similar to Jordan vs. The Pistons, from back in the late 80's/early 90's.

    College football: Ohio State-Michigan.

The Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs are starting to develop a nice little rivalry. I think it will explode in the next few seasons. :)
