Well, I created a respective CT thread, so I suppose one needs to be done here. What do you think is the greatest single performance of the PT (restricted to one film)

I would have to go with Ian McDiarmid...in TPM. Retrospectively, it's a superb performance: As Sidious, he is genuinely terrifying, and as Palpatine, he's very charming, but there's also that hint of duplicity. So my vote goes to him.

I'd go for a tie between McDiarmid in all three and Ewan in ROTS.

Ewan and Hayden in ROTS or Ian in all three.

Liam Neeson for TPM is a good choice too.

Best SINGLE performance of the PT?

Ian McDiarmid in ROTS - it's all there baby, especially the Opera scene, the dicussion with Anakin in his Chancellor's Chambers, the fight with Mace's posse and subsequent transformation to a lightning spewing Sith prune face along with Order 66 and his duel with Yoda . . . . . wowzers!

[gets goose bumps just thinking about those scenes]

    Ahmed Best in TPM:oops:

    J/K

i would say Ewan in AotC is the best single performance in a single film.

best in the trilogy as far as all 3 goes is Ian, his level never waivers, the performance is great in all films.

I agree with the nod to Ewan in AotC. In fact, I thought it was so good, his performance in RotS actually paled in comparison, IMO.

Liam is a great actor, and he had the best overall performance in TPM, without question.

But Liam did not get the chance to extend the range of his character the way Ian did. Liam was steady throughout, his range limited by his sage yet rebellious Jedi status -- always under control, always aware of the will of the living force. He never got the chance to get emotional until his death scene, which was very quick.

Ian went from the grandfatherly and engaging Supreme Chancellor to the wise but manipulative counselor at the Opera and then ultimately transforming into a wicked and withered Sith Lord wizard.

Ian is a very accomplished award winning stage actor, most notably earning a 2006 Tony for Best Actor in the 'Faith Healer.' Liam's been nominated tons of times and won many 2nd tier awards, but Ian was able to evolve his character and had more opportunity for range, which reaches a climax in ROTS. This, IMHO gives Ian a decided edge over Ewan or Liam in the PT, both of whom also excelled in their masterful performances.

Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson gave the best performances in the PT, IMO.

    My favorite being McDiarmid.

McDiarmid in ROTS was the best. Followed by Liam Neeson in TPM, and the voice of Yoda by Frank Oz was also very good. All others were horrible.

    CGI Yoda.

CGI Yoda showed more emotion than all of the human actors.

Watto! He kicked a--. I really thought he was one of the best CG people. I really felt bad for him when I saw him down and out in AOTC.

Human performance - Ewan McGregor easily. Made Obi Wan very real.

Secondary performance - Tem Morrison or Jimmy Smitts. Both were excellent.
