CT Best VHS version of unaltered original trilogy

Hi all, I am wondering if any of you can be kind enough to tell me which of the VHS releases of the original unaltered trilogy is the best? I do not have a laser disc player and the 2006(7) special edition dvd's are quite expensive on eBay. I was checking the web but there are so many VHS versions and none really gave a clear answer as to which of them is the best version with good picture and sound, etc. I prefer the widescreen or letterbox format if possible.
