Which was your favorite score from the Maestro in 2005?

This year, he scored Revenge of the Sith, War of the Worlds, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Munich.

My vote goes to Munich right now, followed by Sith, War, and Geisha.

EDIT: General Kenobi, feel free to make this a poll.

Sith. The other three didn't do a whole lot for me. I have a feeling Geisha will grow on me, though. Munich I've only heard in the film, and it didn't do anything for me at all.

I just saw Memoirs Of A Geisha. Nice score, but nothing close to ROTS. Munich still isn't in theaters here yet.

I've had a chance to see all the films except for Memoirs of a Geisha, but here's my list:

    1. Munich
    2. Memoirs of a Geisha
    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. War of the Worlds

There was quite a bit of Munich that wasn't actually scored, but when there was score, the emotion was really heightened (and in a few cases, so was the tension). Remebering Munich was amazing in the movie - really added to that moment on the tarmac.

This has been a great year for John Williams, here's to hoping he continues to write such powerful scores!

    1. Star Wars III. Indeed IMO the best score of the SW saga.

The rest is really very hard to decide.
This year Williams has once more proven to be capable to write very specific music.
Munich and WOtW are dark and threatening. Whereas Geisha is very exotic.

I really cannot rank the other 3. But SW holds the first place. If anyone doubts, just replay Battle of the Heroes, Anakin's Dark Deeds or Padme's Rumination.

From JW, I'd have to say ROTS. I listened to Munich's and it was better during the emotional parts than the action parts. WOTW and Geisha's I really didn't care for that much unfortunately.

Well, I finally got a chance to see Memoirs of a Geisha, and I have to retract my previous statement. Memoirs is by far the best Williams' score from 2005. Everything fits so perfectly. On CD, I really enjoyed the fun cues like Going to School and Brush on Silk, but they truly come alive in the film and add so much. Confluence is easily the most beautiful piece of music that Williams has written all year, and it really makes the scene in the movie - utterly amazing. It's been a long time since I've come out of a movie with such a love for the music. I can't wait to see this one take the Academy Award!

I'm really amazed that many of you rank Memoirs so low. To each his own I guess, but I was just blown away by it in the film. Like I said, it's been a long time since the music in a movie has moved me so much. It was just really gorgeous.

Of the Williams scores this year, I've become hooked moreso on 'Munich.'

A number of tracks have a vocal arrangement very much in tone to my favorite ROTS track, 'Padme's Ruminations.' Though the vocals in 'Munich' are more of a lament to the situation at hand in the film. 'Munich' also has some arrangements that reminded me a bit of 'Catch me if you Can,' and 'Schindler.'

'ROTS' is my second favorite of JW's this year. some nice themes, though it is not quite his best work. Some nice battle music, but the low-key themes work well. A few steps above AOTC's, as in that film, there was a lot of recycling of former themes from Ep.1.

'Geisha' is kind of a low-point on my soundtrack radar. Mainly the film just didn't do anything for me, it felt like a very 'Western' take on the Orient. While Williams has some of the themes I was hoping for, the music didn't quite work for me.

In terms of scores, I'd prefer 'Munich' to be a front-runner of his nominations at the Oscars.
