Savages? The Sith? To a Kaleesh, maybe, though to most--whether Jedi or Sith--the Kaleesh seem to be a savage race. But Grievance simply had no idea there was an element of calm to the wielders of the Dark Side. Their anger is so tangible, so palpable, he never would have guessed any level of calm is required to exercise their powers. Having been mentally knocked for a loop there, he looks utterly bewildered when Reiis tries to explain the answer she is seeking from him and takes it further by asking what he feels. Poor uneducated cyborg; his dumbfounded expression is almost comical.

"Confused?" he offers, knowing this isn't what she is looking for either, "I'm...not sure what I'm supposed to be...feeling."

He glances down at his cybernetic body, silently indicating that "feeling" isn't what it used to be for him. His eyes then shift to Reiis, confusion unmistakable, but silently seeking guidance. He truly is unschooled in the ways of the Force and on so many levels, he is a blank canvas; impressionable and shapable--to a degree. There is still that stubborn will to be dealt with and no doubt it will rise to the occasion again. His confusion becomes even more abundant when she asks if he can "turn off" his hearing.

"Perish the thought!" he chuckles incredulously, "That is asking to be ambushed. I cannot willfully deafen myself. I can shift my focus, if that is what you are asking me to do. But I need a general idea of where to direct my focus."

There can be no doubt that Grievance Vexx has laser-locked focus in battle. He is mission-minded and extremely high-functioning in this area when presented with an objective. Kill or be killed is one example he can easily grasp. Get out alive is another.

He looks so confused now....Reiis almost pities him.

Happy, though, that his confusion has not turned to anger, Reiis attempts to explain again. "It's like a...deep tremor..sort of a.......yeah...it's hard to explain." She sighed, feeling rather futile but still determined. Grievance rejects turning off his hearing, and she had half expected that, but she doesn't know how to direct his focus. She can't really explain it, despite having gone through training herself once. Surely someone had explained it to her, but either she had forgotten or....

She had learned by trial and error? Was that how it worked?

Reiis was all the more frustrated that she was not adequate for the task. This whole time she thought she was going to teach her friend something useful, and now she doesn't even know how to do it. She stayed sitting. It helped her think and it helped her stay calm, because if she was up and about, she was going to want to make some heads fly.

"Okay. Just....let's try something. Close your eyes. And I want you to do your best to not listen to anything. Can we try that?"

Anger really isn't a close emotion at the moment as Grievance tries to grasp this concept that stretches beyond what he is comfortable or familiar with. He is determined to understand and once he is determined, there is little chance of breaking it. His focus has been captured to a degree in that his patience has kicked in, but there is a level of frustration just below the surface. He can sense Reiis's frustration and instinctively knows he must remain calm as in battle. Then it clicks; just a little, but it clicks.

"You are asking me to shift into combat mode." It's not a question, but a statement. "That mentality in which nothing exists but strategy and calculation."

When she asks him to close his eyes, he becomes visibly on guard. His hearing is keen; his animalistic senses are razor sharp. But she is asking him to make himself vulnerable on a certain level and his sense of mistrust rises to the occasion. He doesn't have to say anything; his narrowed yellow eyes should say it all: that he does not like this idea. However, his determination has been engaged, so he isn't quite so quick to buck the suggestion entirely.

"All right," he grumbles, complying with her request and closing his eyes, "But no funny business. What now?"

"Yes, combat mode." Reiis was grateful he had words for it because she did not. "Exactly." She breathed a sigh of relief.

And that he agreed to close his eyes was even better. Reiis bit her lip as he demanded "no funny business." What she was about to do wouldn't please him, but they couldn't start with blasters.

"Okay," she said, getting up and grabbed a few loose pebbles from the ground. "I want you to see through the Force. Go into your combat mode and feel what's around you without looking." She readied one of the pebbles in her right hand. "You may find this is one of the best things about the Force -- you can see when you are blind, and hear when you are deaf." She paused, and smiled. "You can even speak when you are mute."

Without further ado, she hurled a pebble at him.

A nod and a light grunt is the cyborg's response as Reiis affirms that he needs to place himself in combat mode. He can comply with that easily enough. Even with his eyes closed, his senses are sharp and he is wary; vigilant.

The power of suggestion makes it easy for him to take his mind to the battlefield where he has many times exercised the art of staying one step ahead of the enemy, luring them into a trap and remaining unseen as he does it; his comrades lying in wait while he alone leads the enemy straight into hell. Often these events happened under the cover of darkness and Kaleesh eyes are well-equipped for night vision, but there were times when the foliage was an interference and he had to rely on senses without names. He finds his way to that place now and even with so little organic matter to him, the senses are just as keen.

He can hear Reiis get up; hear the otherwise unnoticed sound of her robes brushing over her cybernetic limbs as she reaches down for a handful of stones. He can hear those small rocks clatter softly against each other in her hand. Whether it truly is by the Force or by his hearing alone, he honestly does not know, but in his mind's eye, he can almost see what she is doing. Somehow sensing that something isn't right, his eyes snap open seconds after the stone leaves Reiis's hand and reflexes take over. He deftly swoops to the left, and pivots his body out of range on one foot while the stone sails on to hit the arena floor in a harmless puff of dust.

"I thought I said no funny business," he grumbles, scowling.

"Well, if you'd prefer I shoot laser blasts at you like the Jedi do the younglings, I can arrange that," she replied, pleased laughter in her voice. She's happy, almost proud, that he sort of used the Force, but she knew he also used his hearing. How could he not? He was trained to do as much, as Reiis didn't really expect him to not. Time for her to use the Force.

"Okay, that was good, but close your eyes again. I need to see one more thing before we move on to harder stuff." If he could hear that well, then she'd have to work a whole lot harder. Hopefully he'd agree again to close his eyes, despite his discomfort with that arrangement.

    "And don't open your eyes."

Grievance's scowl deepens behind his mask and a low growl accompanies it. Scowling and growling; two things he does remarkably well. He is by no means intimidated by blaster bolts. His armor is built to withstand such assault. As far as what he had used to avoid the stone she had thrown at him, he has no way of realizing a portion of the credit to his swift reflexes is to the Force. As far as he is concerned, it all comes from his Kaleesh warrior training.

"Are we through playing 'David and Goliath' now?" he asks, crossing his arms over his chest impatiently, "I think I won that round."

As she asks him to close his eyes a second time, he growls and mutters something in Kaleesh under his breath. He still isn't near being angry; only annoyed if anything. Mostly because he really doesn't understand what Reiis is testing or looking for. Nevertheless, he humors her request, though it is with a rumbling groan of exasperation and a roll of his eyes rather like a moody teenager who has been told he can't take the speeder for a spin.

"Hit me with a rock and I will find a bigger one with which to return the favor," he mutters, then falls silent, listening once again.

If you asked her, Reiis would admit that she was rather impressed by Grievance's patience, despite his lingering frustration. Apparently the Force was alluring enough to override his stubbornness....for now. Reiis would do her best not to push her luck, but the game of "David and Goliath" hadn't ended.

She only smiled in response as he complains, but inwardly chuckled as he muttered a threat of throwing larger rocks after her pebbles. It wasn't the threat she laughed at....it just sounded funny when he said it. She cringed, though, as an afterthought, wondering if he'd follow through on that threat.

Reiis shut off her respiration, and didn't move a muscle or cybernetic gear. She remained still for a few moments, feeling the oxygen supply dwindle rapidly. Any sounds she might have emitted unintentionally she blocked with the Force. He wasn't going to get a chance to hear it coming...not this time. She silently lifted a few more pebbles off the ground, aiming them at her friend.

    One...

    Two...

    Three...

They shot towards him in various trajectories like blaster bolts, and as Reiis watched them fly, she anxiously awaited Grievances' response. She hoped -- very much hoped, in fact -- that he'd sense them.

Admittedly, Grievance becomes unsettled when all he hears is crickets chirping. He knows Reiis is still there; he can sense it. Whether it is the Force or the "sixth sense" of a survivalist, he doesn't even know. He isn't really even thinking about what sense it may be. All he is thinking is that Reiis is up to something and he isn't too terribly pleased about it.

He can sense the Force being used for some purpose, the ringing in his ears alerting him, but he doesn't realize it is a cloaking effect, muting any sound Reiis would normally be making. It leaves him feeling unsettled as it further deafens him to anything he might hear and rely on to have some idea of what to expect. He growls and shakes his head in aggravation, almost losing his focus entirely...

Then he suddenly feels the need to guard himself. Attributing it to instinct in his head, he swiftly draws his cloak completely across the front of his body, shielding himself from being pelted by rocks as they bounce harmlessly off the armor-quilted material. His feet remain anchored, not about to relinquish any ground in spite of feeling uncomfortably vulnerable in this exercise. He remains willingly blind, keeping his eyes closed until instructed otherwise, though he doesn't like this stipulation either.

    He did it!!!

Reiis is so pleased, she almost begins yelling in excitement, but her respirator is still off. She flicks it back on, pausing to breathe and to see if the silence barrier is keeping that noise from reaching him, also. It seems to be, luckily.

There is one more thing she must see. To her surprise, he has kept his eyes closed despite the pebbles. "So," she muses quietly. "He really is willing to learn." Dislodging a fist-sized stone from within the barrier of silence, Reiis lifts it and readies it to be launched. She aims for a non-damaging area -- his torso -- which would be able to withstand the blow. What she's hoping is that he'll use his saber to destroy the rock instead of just deflecting it, as he apparently seems unwilling to move.

The rock hurled towards him, making a bee-line for Grievance's midsection. No. Reiis halted it a mere few feet before it stuck. She really wanted to test him this time. Lifting the rock over his head, Reiis pushed it past her friend...

...then brought it hurling back in the other direction. Expecting it from the front was one thing...an attack from behind was another. Reiis waiting anxiously.

Clueless to the fact that he has inadvertently done what is expected of him, Grievance keeps his eyes closed, but he is straining his ears to capture something besides the crickets chirping. There is nothing to be detected though. Were it not for the fact that he could still sense Reiis's presence, he might think himself to be alone.

Hearing no instructions to open his eyes, he maintains his self-inflicted blindness. As Reiis sends a larger rock his way from the front, he instinctively braces himself. For what, he does not know. His head tilts slightly as he struggles to hear again; some indicator to what is going on. What to expect. There is nothing.

In the next moment, he sees it. Without ever opening his eyes, he sees the rock sailing toward him. Not from the original direction, but the exact opposite. How it got there, he has no idea, but he swings his cloak away with lightning-fast reflexes and puts his hand out as though to catch the rock or block its path. The rock stops its trajectory in midair and thuds to the ground like so much dead weight.

At the same time this occurs, he can suddenly hear Reiis again--every move, every breath, every cybernetic sound. The ringing that had been bombarding his hearing is a sound that is no more as all of these other sounds return. He has no way of knowing what it is he has done or that he has even done it, but he has inadvertently tapped into a rare power; the power to sever one's connection to the Force. Reiis, unfortunately, will be the first to experience what this Force-hating cyborg is truly capable of.

Reiis watched intently, as if blinking would cause her to miss something terribly important. Indeed it might have, because everything happened so fast.

The rock halted midair. This was even better than she had expected! But suddenly it dropped, thudding with finality to the ground. Reiis began to walk towards--

And before she knew what had happened, the world became very small. Impossibly tiny, from what she had known a mere few seconds ago. She was at once, deaf and blind. Although in full use of her sense, Reiis could no longer sense her surroundings. She couldn't sense the arena...she couldn't sense Grievance.

In fact, she could sense nothing.

It was like being surrounded, immersed, in a black cloud from which she could not escape. What the kriff was going on?! "Grievance?!" she cried out in panicky terror. "What's going on?!" Perhaps Grievance would be able to hear the fear in her voice. Pure, unfiltered fear. And it would be true -- Reiis had never been so afraid in her life...the Force had always been there, and now somehow it was gone. "Grievance!!!!" She couldn't sense him, what he was thinking...nothing. Unable to feel what was behind her and expecting an ambush, Reiis began a continual, frantic rotation, keeping physical eyes on everything as she had been blinded in the Force. It suddenly occurred to her that Grievance might be the one doing it.

"Please! Stop!" she cried out. She was begging now, stirred up into a freakish panic. Reiis never begged. It was beneath her and the Force was always there to help her. But now...now...she felt so...so.....

    So small.

    So alone.

    So....

    powerless.

Her knees buckled and she sank to the ground, digging and searching for that familiar feeling of oneness with the Force.

But it was nowhere to be found.

Grievance startles at the sudden outcry from Reiis, his eyes snapping open. He looks around the arena as though expecting to see a hoard of rancors attacking for all the panic he hears in her voice, but there is nothing but the two of them and the droid present. He looks down upon Reiis in confusion.

"What?" he asks with a shrug, "Why are you acting like we are under attack? Is this another strange test of yours?"

He takes a step backwards as she cries out for something to stop. Stop what? There is nothing happening. He is even more confused now than he was when she was trying to explain the Force to him. What is going on here? He certainly does not understand it.

"Stop what?" he asks, "I am not doing anything. What are you testing me for?"

Reiis hardly hears Grievance as he expresses his confusion. It appears he thinks it is some kind of test, but Reiis just wants it to stop. It would have been more fortunate for the both of them had she heard him, but Reiis was in no condition to do much of anything.

Desperate for the inward hell to cease, she scrambled up and grabbed the Darksaber from her belt. It was all so awkward and terrifying. Her saber didn't even felt weighted correctly, and even worse, she couldn't feel its essence. It was just a cold piece of metal -- dead for all she could feel. Instinctively, Reiis shot out a hand to push Grievance against the wall, but nothing came of it. She tried again but the whole world remained in darkness.

Not even realizing what she was doing, Reiis closed the distance between her and her friend and swung her saber as hard as she could.

Still lost as to what is going on here, Grievance watches Reiis warily, trying to decipher this strange and uncharacteristic behavior she is exhibiting. He winces both times when she raises her hand, bracing himself and thoroughly expecting to be thrown against a wall, but nothing happens. He finds it odd that she suddenly decides to pick up her weapon when moments before she was determined not to. Not only that, but she retrieves her saber in a normal, non-Force type way. What's up with that?

"What are you--?" He never gets the full question out. At that moment, Reiis's darksaber slashes savagely across his chest armor, causing a shower of sparks to fly. It leaves a blackened charred mark on him, scarring the durasteel plating with a melted line running diagonally from his shoulder to the beginning of the ribbed armor that encircles his abdominal cavity. In that instant, when Reiis has returned to traditional combat, something changes.

It is as if the blockage closing her off from the Force suddenly collapses and she isn't the only one to experience the sudden rush like a flood from a broken levy. As Grievance reaches for one of his own weapons to retaliate, the ringing in his ears becomes deafening and he backs away suddenly, shaking his head in a violent way and bringing his hands up in an attempt to shield his hearing. Of course, this is of little use, for what he is experiencing is and has always been internal.

Her strike made contact with Grievance's armor, much to the surprise and horror of the normal Reiss...had she been there. It had the desired effect, though. The Force Sever suddenly vanished and Reiis felt a rush of awareness pass over her. And then it all collapsed on her like a pile of bricks.

As if a dam had been suddenly broken, the Force rushed back to her with everything it would have told her had it not been severed. Her head felt as if it would burst from the overload of sensory information. Crying out in pain, Reiis dropped to her knees as she tried to keep up with the data dump, but she just couldn't take it all in.

    And then it stopped.

Like turning off a faucet, the flow ceased. The constant input from the Force was still bombarding her, of course, but it was manageable, and Reiis' mind quickly became used to it once again.

Carefully lifting her gaze toward Grievance, Reiis could see him clutching his own head. "Don't ever, ever do--" She cut off her words as she saw. A blackened line ran across his chest plating. Stunned into silence, the realization reached Reiis that she had done that...and hadn't even known. Her hand reached out tentatively, wanting to fix what she had destroyed: his armor and very likely his trust. She told herself that she hadn't known, that what had happened was such a violent aberration to her Force-sensitive mind that she couldn't really be blamed. Right?

She withdrew her hand, looking in shame now at the Darksaber which laid at her feet. Reiis looked up at Grievance again. "I'm so very sorry." Her voice was hardly more than a whisper of pain and regret. Everything had been going so well, and had suddenly gone so horribly wrong. "I'm so so sorry."

The strike had happened with such speed, pain is not immediately felt by the Kaleesh warrior who is ninety percent machine. He is stunned at first; stunned that Reiis had attacked him while he was unarmed and not being aggressive. His confusion only escalates as he wonders if this is punishment for something he's done wrong in this foreign training. He takes a breath to actually vocalize this question when Reiis starts to warn him to never do...something. What has he done?

He is about to vocalize this question when she suddenly becomes apologetic. Now he is
really confused. He eyes her suspiciously as she reaches out with an air of remorse. He isn't really bothered by the damage, despite the fact that, had his armor been less durable, it would have slashed right through what is left of his organic body. Glancing down at the plasma scar, he fleetingly finds himself feeling grateful that he is not fully organic. That blow would have sliced him in two.

"What happened?" he asks, more focused on what had transpired and been manifested in Reiis's panic than anything else, "I do not understand. I did what you instructed me to do."

With her Force abilities returned, Reiis can sense his confusion. What surprises her is that he's not angry, at least not now, and this makes her feel even worse.

"What happened? I do not understand. I did what you instructed me to do."

"You did, Grievance." She found it oddly difficult to speak and was forcing the words out, as if they were heavy and sluggish. "You did that and more. Your master would be proud..." her voice trailed off. "You accidentally cut off the Force from me. I see now that you didn't mean to. I'm so sorry I reacted that way. I could have killed you....I don't even remember doing it. I...I've never felt that before...and I was......scared." She lowered her head again in shame. She hoped he'd understand but also felt that she deserved his wrath.

She looked again at her Darksaber, the object of so much destruction over the years, the witnesses to so much pain. Tenderly as if it were hot to the touch, Reiis crouched to pick up her weapon. She could remember when she had constructed it. Black crystal and a hilt she had spent weeks on. Her grip tightened around it, but she didn't ignite the blade. "Never again," she whispered.

She crushed it, metal and electrical parts bending and breaking around her fingers. With her other hand, the pried the crystal from it's encasement. This was the heart of the Darksaber. The hilt was merely a way to make it a weapon, and Reiis had no interest in that any longer. Letting the remnants of the hilt fall, Reiis tucked the inky black crystal into a pocket of her tunic.

Grievance's unblinking stare remains locked on Reiis, lacking so much understanding but earnestly seeking it. Indeed, he is not angry; only confused. He had somehow blocked Reiis's access to the Force? He would never think such a thing was possible. Perhaps facing someone else, he might have been glad to learn that he has the ability to do this, but seeing how much it has frightened Reiis and evidentially caused her pain as well, he can't help but feel as though he has committed a horrible travesty.

"How is such a thing even possible?" he asks, backing away, "I thought nothing could stop the Force. How was I able to do that? Did I hurt you?"

The gaping gash in his armor is all but forgotten in light of what he apparently is capable of. He is completely taken aback by this information. Worse yet, he does not know how he was able to do it or that it is a Force-based power. He had been aware of nothing; felt nothing; experienced nothing. At least, that's what he thinks at the moment. So effected by this event, he doesn't realize that there had been a surge of power that left him seemingly on command, fueled by his intense dislike of the Force itself.

All of this is lost to his mind as Reiis picks up her darksaber...and destroys it? He cringed visibly at the creaking of the metal hilt giving way under Reiis's cybernetic grip. To him, it is as if he is witnessing murder. Reiis is a warrior. The very idea of a warrior destroying their own weapon is unspeakable.

"Why did you do that?" he asks, not in anger, but in concern and almost sorrow, "You have just destroyed an extension of yourself as a warrior; no doubt crafted by your own hands. How could you just destroy it like that? It has served you well."

Reiis shut her eyes tight, shaking her head. "I don't know. It's rare....very rare. I don't know how you did it. I see now that you didn't mean to. I'm sorry. It didn't cause any...lasting physical damage." The physical effects had almost entirely disappeared, but the mental consequences would stay with her for a long time.

She looks again at the scar across his armor, wincing at the visual but still unable to remember it happening.

"Why did you do that? You have just destroyed an extension of yourself as a warrior; no doubt crafted by your own hands. How could you just destroy it like that? It has served you well."

She stood there for a long time, looking down at the broken hilt with sorrow. "Because...because I don't trust myself." He might have seen tears in her eyes as she looked upon her saber, lying murdered and dejected at her feet, but her mask saved her from the further humiliation. "If my choices are the Darksaber and my friend, I choose my friend. I don't deserve something I can't control."

Reiis bent to pick up the destroyed weapon, cradling it in her hands as if it were a living being. "Maybe there will be a time when I deserve this. But today is not that day." She looked down at it regretfully. "It can be fixed, when the time comes."

Pushing her feelings aside, Reiis straightened and forced her voice to sound steady. "I think our next step is to figure out how you did the Sever."

His eyes softening to what can only be described as a look of remorse, Grievance really isn't sure what to do with this information. Reiis is much more familiar with the Force than he is and even she cannot come up with a reasonable explanation for this power he appears to have. Seeing that the effects of his power have led up to his friend destroying her weapon effects him deeply; he can sense the grief he has caused, inadvertently forcing Reiis to make a painful choice. The impact becomes deeper still as she chooses to reject her weapon in favor of him as a friend. Not since he had left Kalee has he been so valued. Not valued as a war machine either, but as a living soul.

"What if you are attacked?" he asks as she picks up her crushed saber hilt, "How then will you defend yourself? How will you stay sharp in combat if you have nothing with which to practice? You must rebuild it without hesitation. If you can teach me to control...whatever it is that I have...I can teach you to control that."

Though his emotions are tempered by his steely resolve, Grievance is as disturbed by the willful destruction of Reiis's weapon as he would be over bearing witness to a wrongful death and he is seeking to undo it. He pauses to think, glancing again at the diagonal black streak across his chest. He absently touches the scarred durasteel with a clawed hand.

"You needn't fear hurting me," he tries to assure her, "First of all, pain and injuries to me are not as detrimental as they would be to flesh and blood. Second, I am confident I can best you with a saber on days when I am at my worst."

He cannot smile to temper his words that may come off as an insult, but on the rare occasions when he needs the expression, he has a pretty good ability to let a smile be heard in his tone, however gruff and rumbling it may be. He knows if Reiis were to set her mind to it, she probably could kill him with her Darksaber. It would be a hell of a fight, but he's fairly certain she could pull it off. There is only one thing that stands in the way of such an outcome and that is the fact that she views him as a friend. He glances away nervously as she brings the focus back around to his bizarre power to separate a Force-wielder from the Force.

"Figuring out how I did it would entail triggering it a second time," he reminds her, "I have no reason nor desire to frighten you that way again."

Reiis sensed his disturbance about her actions toward her Darksaber, and she wished he didn't feel that way. It wasn't his fault, and it had been her decision. Whether or not he is accustomed to it, Reiis values her friend more than any object -- whether it had carried any importance or not.

When he asks what she will do if attacked, Reiis isn't exactly sure. "Force Sever is very rare," she replied, thinking it through as she spoke. "The Force will...should...help me. I don't know." She looked up at him, fiercely determined now. "It will work," she stated. Was she convincing him or herself? "The Force will aid me and I will win." The was a hint of desperation in her voice, like she needed more than anything else to be told that she would never have to go through that again. But she knew that couldn't be promised. No one could, especially not someone who didn't even know how they did it.

After a pause, she continued. "I can fight with a training saber, I just don't have one with me right now." She looked humiliated. A training saber...was that what she was reduced to? Yes. And so be it because there were other things Reiis cared for more. "I will fix the hilt when I am ready, but now is not that time." She watches as he touches the burnt line on his chest, gesturing towards it as she speaks. "That could have been lethal and both you and I know that." She refused to argue about this -- they both knew better. Still, she smiled, chuckling a little as he makes what Reiis would publicly call an "outrageous" claim. "Pfft...you wish," she countered, adding a playful smirking tone to her words because he couldn't read her face.

But as he reminds her that she'd be subject to it happening again, her seriousness returns. "I know," she said. "But I won't be able to hurt you now and that's my main concern." She paused to think. "Just....please try to not let it drag out."

Grievance is not accustomed to being valued outside of his own culture. On Kalee, he was hailed a fearsome warrior, taking a war to any enemy that deserved it. Like his father before him, he was practically a king among his people, though he was never the type to openly exalt himself, preferring instead to credit victory to the unit that fought alongside him. Upon leaving Kalee and beginning his unwanted life as a cyborg, his value was weighed by how much it cost to construct him and how much killing he could do singlehandedly. He was not a living creature, but a machine expected to do as he was told. Very seldom did he live up to those expectations, his stubborn nature rising up to fight back.

His brow furrows behind his mask skeptically as Reiis claims her faith in the Force. How can she still trust it with her life when he had managed to block her access to it by pure accident? She would be wiser, he feels, to put her faith in a solid weapon. Of course, these are the thoughts of a primitive Kaleesh warrior, not necessarily the thoughts of a well-rounded Sith warrior. Try as he might, he cannot separate himself from his roots. Not that he's really trying anyway. Quite frankly, he would rather rot.

"A training saber?" he asks, the term obviously foreign to himself as he scoffs, "That sounds like something a Jedi, lacking trust in his own teaching, might give a youngling. There is no such thing among the Kaleesh. I was wielding weapons at the same time I was able to handle dining utensils. Real, deadly weapons. Sith utilize such things as training sabers?"

He behaves as though all of this is unknown to him when, in reality, he is painfully familiar with it. When he had found the will to learn to live with his new cybernetic body, he had been given training weapons so he could learn to fight with that body without becoming too dangerous. Deeply insulted, he had lost his temper with his captor for the second time, casting aside the insulting device after violently destroying it and threatening to do the same to the Sith who had transformed him. It had all resulted in more painful punishment for him, but his demands were met and never again was he presented with a training weapon.

"Lethal," he scoffs with a dark chuckle, "You are quite the dreamer, aren't you, Invadator? Perhaps I shall have to upgrade my armor to something infused with cortosis to further guard myself from your deadly prowess."

As familiar as they have become with one another, it shouldn't be too hard for Reiis to pick up on the teasing tone in the cyborg's voice. And yet, all teasing aside, the fact remains that Reiis still seems intent on honing his newfound talent within the Force. Another fact remains in that Grievance doesn't like it; does not like what he is capable of doing. True, he would find immense pleasure in it were Reiis not his friend and ally. Severing one from the Force would be a gift he could only dream of having, but he sees no point in punishing his comrade.

"I will not prolong it and I can assure you of that," he replies, folding his arms across his chest and raising his head in a slightly defiant manner as he continues, "Because I am not going to permit myself to use it again."

It occurs to Reiis that Grievance may feel she was foolish in destroying her weapon and continuing to trust in the Force, but she's had a lifetime of Force training with both Jedi and Sith and the Force is as dear to her as her own life. Grievance probably thought the same of his weapons.

He scoffs at the idea of a training saber, mirroring her own heretofore unspoken thoughts about them. "Yes, that is what the Jedi use, actually. The Sith don't, no. I used a training saber when I was a youngling and when I practice sparred as a Padawan, but I never used them as a Sith....it's unheard of and shameful," she put bluntly. "But I don't trust myself, and that's the problem. I've never been very good at..." An awkward pause ensued as Reiis was about to admit something she normally didn't. "Restraint," she finished, half-grumbling the words.

"Lethal. You are quite the dreamer, aren't you, Invadator? Perhaps I shall have to upgrade my armor to something infused with cortosis to further guard myself from your deadly prowess."

Reiis snorted, laughing freely this time. "You apparently haven't learned anything," she teased back. "Perhaps I should rebuild the Darksaber just to teach you a thing or two." She grinned, and things didn't seem so hopeless now. It was an obstacle...a enormous obstacle...but she would learn to work with it until she found something better.

She does in fact want him to continue exploring the Force -- even the Sever, which had so damaged her confidence in both herself and the Force. A small part of her was slightly envious of his rare ability but also happy for him. It fit, in a way...someone who hates the Force so much could take the Force away from others. Not only that, it was something he shouldn't lose for his own sake in a fight.

But he apparently had already made up his mind on that.

"What?!" she asked, bewildered. "I just destroyed the Darksaber so we could develop that in you. Do you know how rare Sever is?!" She couldn't believe he was refusing it. "You don't even know how to not do it. We have to develop this."

Reiis very much hoped he'd see the advantages in this...or she'd have to work her way through a whole other lesson in Kaleesh stubbornness.

"The stinking Jedi have no confidence in their own teachings," Grievance grunts disdainfully, "If they did, they would trust that those whom they choose to apprentice would grasp their concepts and practice restraint." He pauses as Reiis uses the very word he has ended on, considering the fact that her first teachings were with the Jedi. Then it hits him.

"Blast those Jedi scum to hell!" he barks out suddenly, slamming his fist into his palm, "And to hell with the training saber. You will not lower yourself to such disgrace. No friend of the Sheelal tribe will use a training saber," he spits the word as though it were poison on his tongue, reaching over his back into his cloak and withdrawing a traditional sword of some sort; primitive by appearance, but undoubtedly dangerous. He takes it by its broad blade and extends the hilt to Reiis.

"If you must relinquish your darksaber for a time, so be it," he states in a tone that dares her to argue with what he is about to say, "You will use this in its place. It is a lig sword--my mother's. It served her well up until her life was taken in an ambush. My father trained me with it. It cannot hurt me as a plasma blade can, but it is made of cortosis. It can withstand a lock with a lightsaber. Up until I gained my father's collection, this was all I fought with. Now I only carry it to remind me that I was born a warrior. It will remind you as well until you are ready to reclaim your weapon."

He scowls as she refuses to let him off the hook with Force development, rolling his eyes as she insists that his is a power he can't neglect using. Although he has no grounds to argue the fact that he does not know how to avoid using it, he's going to try and argue the matter anyway.

"I have not used it this long, haven't I?" he challenges her, "You started it with this strange training of yours. We stop that, so too will this ridiculous power."
