honestly i think it was a tie between phelps and bolt. phelps obviously won more medals, but both athletes were incredible in their own way. anyway i voted for bolt just to make it a closer race.

I haven't voted yet, but I'm leaning towards Usain Bolt.

Honestly, I've never seen anyone smash the record in the 100 Meters like he did, and do it with ease. Track and Field world records don't fall nearly as easily as swimming world records do, and to break arguably the three most prestigious world records in track at the same Olympics is amazing.

China spent $43 Billion. That's a lot of billions.

    Ben Johnson. :(

For me (and for many people) the 100m is the event of the Olympics.

Phelps, without a shadow of a doubt.

Phelps, but I was very, very proud of the US mens Vollyball team.

I voted for Phelps, but Usain Bolt comes pretty darn close second. I mean, that 100 m final was unbelievably amazing.

I voted other. The biggest start no doubt is Phelps, followed closely by Bolt (that 200m record is incredible). But for me, the nagging doubt about who was doping was underlying almost every competition, and certainly factored heavily with Phelps and Bolt. It's a shame, but that's the nature of sports these days.

Sadly, you're right. I assume, however, that these two have been tested 50 ways from Friday.

Marion Jones never tested positive though and she was on the dope. There's probably no difference between Ben Johnson and all the other winners since. Except that he did enough of the stuff to kill an horse.

EDIT: that said, I still get jazzed for the 100m.

From what I understand, Phelps actually volunteers for additional testing along with a good many on the US swim team. Dara Torres, for one. I guess you can say I'm the optimist about this subject, although Marion Jones really broke my heart when it all when down. Here's to hoping for a new era with a wary eye!

That's precisely it -- Balco actually tested their clients themselves, to see if they're products would be detected -- they weren't. Jones et al never tested positive.

I give Phelps a little more benefit of the doubt because of his voluntary testing, but still, we've seen it demonstrated repeatedly in the past that the dopers are ahead of the testing.
