Biggest turn-offs when reading fics?

::blushes:: Oh, thank you, JediGaladriel... As I said. The first story I've ever written was a SW fanfic in English. I don't know, but if someone told me to write a story in Slovak, it would most probably suck like Sith in a white dress. Before I came here (to the FF boards), I haven't written anything except essays for school and maybe one or two short stories in Slovak when I was at the elementary school. Actually, I like writing in English.

And Lisse! Hey, nice to see someone who's close to Slovakia!!!

Oh, and to the your/you're. I don't mind when someone does it occasionally (I also do it from time to time, but only if I'm in hurry and don't pay much attention). But I've read fics where the author constantly makes these kind of mistakes. And another thing that annoys me when some people write "the Force" with a lower-case "f". Like "the force is strong with her" and such. Ugh! It is THE Force, let's show it some respect!

Word to all the grammar/spelling/dialogue complaints.

Bad Characterization - Namely when characters are portrayed as far younger than they should be - this is really common in romances, where you have 30-year old characters acting like teenagers. Spare me.

Porn for the sake of Porn aka Plot? What Plot? In this vein, those stupid stories written in second person -- far too common on ff.net.

Mary Sue. Especilly when established characters are Mary Sued - Mara, Bria, and anyone who sleeps with a main character are frequent victims.

Really Lame Crossovers - Most crossovers, really. In 6 years reading fanfic, I've seen one that didn't make me vomit. One.

It came from Planet Earth! Mary Sue wakes up in the SW Universe! She meets all the characters! She has the Force! I hate these. with. a. passion.

Songfics. These are just wrong. In so many ways.
