I love me some Borowitz and all jokes aside...this. He'll also be running Chrome or Firefox instead of IE.
Windows 8 is a better OS than Windows 7. It just has the ill-conceived tablet-oriented Metro screen, and using 8.1+ClassicShell ensures I never see it.
seriously if u see something on the internet about bill gates in the ******* year of our lord 2014 and its not about, like, malaria philanthropy, its probably a lie
Have you tried IE in the last, I dunno, 5 years? Firefox has been well behind it in speed and security for a while now. It's almost a sign of tech inexperience when people use Firefox these days. I still use IE as my primary browser of choice, but I keep Chrome handy in case I need it since it's the most lightweight (usually).
Yeah, I have it on my desktop because the intranet at work won't run on Chrome. Hopefully that will change soon.
Of course Ramza comes in with some obscure alternative nobody's ever heard of a_g: well, at work we use outdated versions of IE so I could understand your pain if that's the case.
I wouldn't use it as a day-to-day browser but some of the extensions make it a very powerful tool for certain things.
There are still a lot of work places that use XP, even though Microsoft is (supposedly; they've moved the deadline before) going to end support for XP in April. XP was pretty good when it first came out 13 years ago, but I imagine the Model T was a pretty good car when it came out. Doesn't mean I want to drive one now. Blech.
I've used it heavily in the past for projects at work - with the right extensions it can be a powerful tool. I agree that it's not a good choice for a day-to-day browser, though. I reckon Gates runs something fairly esoteric... a lesser known linux distro or maybe freeBSD
My workplace upgraded to 7 in the middle of last year. I remember being frustrated at seeing all the new PCs arrive with their 'Windows 7' stickers on them, but still running XP.
My workplace is also still using old Windows XP, however I noted a new computer installed just last week was running Windows 7 so maybe there's an upgrade around the corner. Haven't used Windows 8 much but after setting up my mother's new laptop I'm coming around to it - Start screen aside (which can now be avoided in 8.1) it's quite slick, and it's bootup speed (on a standard HDD) beats out my Win7 SSD ultrabook.
Meh, compared to the bloatware that Vista, 7 or 8 turned out to be, XP is still da bomb. Best OP MS ever pulled, IMO. I and a few other acquaintances will always question MS' so called need to fix what wasn't broken. As for browsers, I love me the Chrome. Hitting IE is purely a matter of necessity for a website or two. Sent from my Samsung Mega Astromech Droid
