Well, I mean, it doesn't really matter to me, but is there a reason it shouldn't? Other than the spurious logic of "I like Star Wars more, therefore it will make money and this is important because of reasons." TLJ had a fairly precipitous fall in it's second weekend, and BP isn't predicted do that poorly.

As far as box office, I do not understand the fans obsession with this, outside of wanting a particular movie to make enough to warrant a sequel or series. Unfortunately, I have to wait on BP, real life comes first and I've hit a wall with one course assignment that's due by Sunday (plus waiting on this very busy professor to get back to me is time consuming.) My local theatre is axing the BP matinees after this Sunday, so rental it is. :(

Doesn’t matter to me either. Unless you’re a studio shareholder I can’t see why it should. As a conversation topic, my guess is that BP will fall between $500-$600m. Not based on spurious logic. Based on established patterns of MCU movies’ b.o results.

Because Hollywood is racist and sexist.

"Movies led by women don't make money."
"African-American movies don't make money, just let Tyler Perry do his thing."
    "Women don't like superhero movies."

It's important to look at things like Mad Max: Fury Road, Wonder Woman, Get Out, Black Panther, etc. and see how it's destroying Hollywood's outdated nonsense outright...

    What pattern is it following?

And if it doesn't matter, why bring up TLJ?

    Previous results.
I didn’t bring it up any more than you did. We were both responding to others.

So, I just saw Black Panther and I thought it was alright. It was OK. All the women in the film were actually quite spectacular in their roles and I liked their characters. I liked that an antagonist in one of these movies was more distinctive for a change after the utter disappointment that characters like Ronan, Malekith and the Mandarin happened to be. Michael B. Jordan fit in the role well and I'm glad to see that he's actually in a decent superhero film. I'm also interested in seeing what repercussions will occur as a result of the events in this film for the future ones.

However, there were some problems with it. First of all, the film really needed more Killmonger as I felt that he was just absent for some time before having a significant part in the story. I think T'Challa was a bit boring here in comparison to how he was portrayed in Civil War but that may be due to the fact that he plays an entirely different role altogether as a more confident kind of hero. I'm still looking forward to his appearance in Infinity War so it wasn't too much of an issue. I do think some of the CGI felt unfinished which proved to be a distraction. Not to mention that some of the action scenes were kind of mediocre. Also, a lot of the comedy here was worthless too. They were better off without most of the quips and gags, I think.

Overall, I'd like it see it again but I still prefer several other Marvel films to this one.

Does anyone have idea what the song is called that’s playing as T’Challa is walking around the streets of Wakanda at the start after he gets crowned king?

Edit: Nevermind, I found it. It sounded really nice in the film.

So, two things from the latest viewing...
    1) I was incorrect -- it doesn't say Ross was a pilot 20 years ago, just that he was a retired USAF pilot then CIA; I still suspect this will tie in with Nick Fury being former CIA and involved in Captain Marvel as well, but it's less of a sure thing.

    2) I coulda sworn I heard it the first time but I DEFINITELY heard it this time -- T'Challa in the mid-credits sequence says "The illusions of the Vision threaten the world..."? Did I hear that right, or is it something else?

On number 2 I thought it was something about
invasion, since he'd obviously want to be prepared for extraterrestrial threats.

Saw it on Friday. Overall, it's the most well written MCU entry to date, with great performances across the board, but if I have one major gripe, it's that the action rarely manages to rise above "serviceable". There's nothing here on the level of Daredevil's hallway sequence, or The Winter Soldier's elevator brawl/freeway ambush.

This piece man...it has quickly become one of my favorite and most memorable pieces of MCU music. Hits right in the feels.

Her scenes in that fight were some of the few that managed to rise above serviceable.

    And on an unrelated note:

I enjoyed the movie. Acting was excellent and the story was good.

Question, when do the events of the movie and the events of Civil War take place?

This is a few weeks after civil war, but before Homecoming I think.

I think they place it at CA:CW + 1 Week, based upon the news report in the beginning?

Oh ok, right. And T'Challa's 16-year-old genius inventor sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) mentions fixing "another broken white boy," referring to Civil War's mid-credits scene. I didn't know what she was talking about the first time and then seeing the final end credit scene puts it all together.

For your recommended eventual Marvel Studios chronological marathon, you would follow Civil War with Black Panther, Homecoming, and then Ragnarok, with the mid-credits scene of the latter heading directly into Avengers: Infinity War.

Correct. As T’Challa is flying home at the beginning, he watches a newscast referencing the “terrorist attack on the U.N.” that claimed the life of King T’Chaka, which occurred “one week ago.” It also notes that the true perpetrator, Zemo, has been taken into custody.

Saw it with my friend. All these MCU movies seem like they're the exact same movie and just a rehash and cash-grab. First half was okay, then the second half I got bored.

Is there a movie that's taken place in a fantasy world that hasn't been criticized for its CGI?

I thought the cgi was fine for the most part, but there were a couple of instances (T'challa's second visit to the ancestral plain) where the compositing was really shoddy and some shots from the final fight looked unfinished.
