I'm considering including the Black Sun in the FanFic I'm working on, but I don't know a whole lot about them. Where and how can I get the most information about them?

    best sources on black sun:
read Shadows of the Empire for Black Sun under Xizor. Black Sun also makes a decent appearance in the Bounty Hunter Wars.

for prequel era Black Sun - check out the Darth Maul comic.

    basically:
prior to TPM: Darth Maul eliminates most of Black Sun's leadership.
Black Sun re-organizes, eventually Xizor is on top.
Xizor hires Fett to take down the Bounty Hunter's Guild in the Bounty Hunter Wars.
Xizor plays between helping the Empire and helping Leia in Shadows of the Empire - gets killed by Vader.
Xizor's niece tries to take over her uncle's empire in SOTE: Evolution.
Durga the Hutt (one of Xizor's vigos) has the Darksaber project in Darksaber. no real mention of Black Sun.

One offshoot of the collapse of Black Sun was a group called Black Nebula, headed by Dequc, who was eliminated by Mara Jade, after ROTJ.

Still Prince Xizor. The events of Shadows of the Empire occur between V and VI.

Xizor is in charge from the end of the Clone Wars (ish) to between V and VI (Shadows of the Empire)

Maul's task was to cripple Black Sun enough that it wouldn't be a problem for the near future but would be useful later.

Black Sun was also totally destroyed by Darth Vader just prior to the Battle of Endor. Mara Jade's killing one of its Vigo's attempt to ressurect it resulted in its ressurection attempted collapsing.

Don't forget Black Sun from after ROTJ in the X-wing novels. During their campaign to gain Coruscant, NR went to kessel and rounded up the surviving leaders of Black Sun and reintroduced them into the public to do damage against the Empire.

THe plan was successful enough, but during which, Black Sun leader Flirry Vorru started playing both sides (typical Black Sun it seems). In the end, the ringleaders were either rounded up or killed. Vorru fled with Isard to Thyyferra and held a position there until Rogue Squadron started and finished the Bacta War.

Any elements still on Coruscant after that incident likely led to the rise of the Black Nebula, or any other splinter gangs.

So between IV and V, was the BS like... at it's pinnacle? What kind of thing might they be concerned with? I need something major that they'd REALLY want to get their hands on.

money...control...influence and power. Xizor wanted it all, he seemed to have some kind of vile pleasure out of twisting people to ask him favours. He was the mob of Star Wars, you ask a favour of the mob, you owe the mob. And Xizor was always up for making more money, he gouged Durga for his help securing Ylesia (Durga eventually became a Vigo in BS). He also attempted to compete with Vader for the Emperors favour, and played a dangerous game by trying to run with both sides. Eventually he gambled with Vader and lost.

But when it comes to Black Sun and their interests, it boils down to money and power. They would want their hands in everything illegal. Just about any organizatoin that worked outside the law had a Black Sun finger in it at one point in time.

So you can just think of that for you fic :)

Black Sun was definitely at its zenith in the ESB era - Xizor considered himself the third most powerful person in the galaxy, after the emperor and vader. he had palpatine's ear -- present in the background when palpatine talked to vader in ESB via holocomm. xizor was not only head of the largest criminal organization in the galaxy, he had plenty of legitimate businesses, many of which benefited from contracts with the empire, like Xizor Transport Systems, which did most of the shipping for the Death Star II construction project. his main desire was information he could use to cause the downfall of his enemies - like Vader. so Black Sun would want secrets.
