    Title: Blood of a Slave

    Author: Vivid Scripts

    Genre: Drama, Romance

    Primary Characters: Anakin, Padme

Secondary Characters: Obi-Wan, Watto, a few OCs

Summary: I've altered the events of TPM to make for a drastically different storyline. I've decreased the age difference between Anakin and Padme as part of the AU factor in this fic(Anakin is 13, and Padme is still 14)

Timeframe: The story begins that day that Padme and Anakin met at Watto's shop.

Notes: Props to Jedi_Jessie_Anne- her story ("Love Withstands Everything") really inspired me to write this story.

Well, i guess thats all you need to know. I hope you enjoy... lets begin...

    Chapter I

Watto murmured a few words under his breath. The Toydarian fidgeted with the datapad in his hands before turning his attention to his new customer. The slave boy watched as his master flapped away, leading the customer out to the junkyard?

The slave boy sighed, his deep breath carrying much of the exhaustion and exasperation he had accumulated from putting up with both his work and his master. His legs relaxed, and he fell back into a chair, slouching into a comfortable, lazy position. His blue eyes wandered the room sluggishly, not taking note of any specific details, until he saw her.

His gaze suddenly focused, and he found himself staring dead at her. He muttered under his breath, ?So, you are real??

The handmaiden looked at him, a bewildered look upon her face. ?Excuse me??

?I?ve heard deep space pilots talk about the moons of Iego-?

    ?You?re talking about angels??

The slave boy nodded. ?Yeah, I never thought they were real until now.?

She smiled, a slight blush managed to capture her face for a second. It was only a moment, and the redness quickly faded from her cheeks, but the modest smile never disappeared.

The slave boy smiled back. ?What are you doing out here???

    ?Padmé,? She said.

?Padmé.? The slave boy repeated. He took a few seconds to practice saying the word in his head. It was a strange name indeed. ?I?m Anakin.?

?It?s nice to meet you, Anakin.? She smiled warmly. She had such beautiful eyes?

?Nice to meet you, too, Padmé.? He nodded. ?Well, what are you doing all the way out here in the outer rim??

?Well, we were on our way to the core worlds when our hyperdrive broke down. We needed to stop somewhere for parts. How?d you end up here??

?I was born here. I work here?? His voice trailed off for a few moments, and it took a few seconds for him to find his words again. ?You were on your way to the core worlds, and you suddenly got here, a planet that it?s farthest from.?

?I take it you really hate living out here.?

?Do you like it out here?? Anakin replied sarcastically.

    Padmé said nothing in response.

?Well, I guess my life could have turned out worse? I could have ended out there in the moisture farms doing all sorts of back breaking labor. So I guess it?s a good thing Watto bought me first-?

    ?You?re a slave?!?

?Yeah?? Anakin murmured as he looked away. His shoulders slumped, and his confidence began to drain as he lazily slouched in his chair. His blue eyes twiddled as he finally had to acknowledge the invisible barrier that seperated him from her.

    Padmé sighed.

He expected her to treat him with scorn or contempt; that was the way slaves were supposed to be treated. Yet she was different. She responded to him with a compassionate smile. Why?

?Look, this is a strange place for me, I don?t understand-?

?You?re an outlander.? Anakin replied flatly. He shook his head. ?You?re not supposed to understand.?

?I?m sorry.? She said. Once again, Anakin was caught off guard, this time by her sincerity.

?We?re leaving.? The customer came walking back in, the train of his robe followed closely by the small blue astromech droid.

Padmé scowled and watched him closely as he walked right by her and towards the door. ?Obi-Wan-?

?I?ll tell you about it later.? He replied flatly. ?We?re leaving.?

Padmé looked back to Anakin once more. ?It was nice meeti

Being the author of the story that inspired this, I think I have some idea of where you're going with this, but I won't say one word...it's great so far! Keep it up.

Just curious: Is Shmi in this? Or did Watto just buy Anakin?

Now, if only I could think of something to do with LWE...I think the ghost of DWB has come back to haunt me.

    Chapter II

?Master,? young Obi-Wan Kenobi?s brow furrowed under the heat of the Tatooine suns. He spoke into the small communicator he carried. ?I tried every trick you taught me. His will is just too strong.?

?If that?s the case, then we have a problem. We have nothing of value to trade for those parts.? Qui-Gon replied from the other side of the line. ?Keep your eyes open, Obi-Wan. I?m sure that another solution will present itself.?

?Yes, master.? Obi-Wan killed the communication and clipped the communicator to his belt. He looked back to his small group of followers: a blue astromech droid, and a teenaged handmaiden. ?Let?s go.?

?Wait, what?s going on?? Padmé asked.

The Jedi Padawan glared at the handmaiden. ?We don?t have anything to barter for the parts we need. Republic credits are no good out here.?

Padmé blinked as the Jedi turned his back on her. Tension began to rise in her system. Republic credits were no good? How would they ever get off this rock? Her leg muscles tensed a bit before she began to follow in Obi-Wan?s wake. The Jedi rounded a corner, and she followed almost blindly.

?Oh! I-I?m terribly sorry.? The handmaiden stammered for a moment before kneeling down to help pick up the goods she had forced the person she collided with to drop.

    ?Padmé??

She looked up. ?Anakin?? She almost dropped the droid parts she had begun to pick up. Her face was beginning to flood red again, and she forced herself to look away, as if to hide her rosy cheeks from the slave boy.

?Hi, um? nice to see you again.? He made out a nervous smile as he knelt by her side. It had only been thirty minutes since he last saw her in Watto?s store. His gaze met hers for just a moment, but that moment froze and began to swell, until both teens had been locked together for five minutes.

?Where did you go?? Obi-Wan?s slightly annoyed voice came through as he walked in on the two teenagers. ?I was already a block up-?

Anakin immediately broke eye contact with the young handmaiden and began to collect the droid parts. Padmé fidgeted a bit before her mind snapped back into place and she began to do the same.

?I ran into someone.? She said to the Jedi.

Obi-Wan knelt down and began to help the two teens collect the broken parts. He looked up at the slave boy. ?You work at Watto?s shop, don?t you??

?Yeah, he wouldn?t sell you guys those parts you needed.?

?Our Republic credits are no good out here??

Obi-Wan and Padmé gently placed the parts they had collected into Anakin?s arms. Anakin slowly rose to his feet and surveyed the area. Various shop owners were beginning to close up for the day, and the winds were beginning to pick up.

?There?s a storm brewing.? The slave announced. ?Do you have a shelter??

?Our ship?s parked out along the outskirts.?

Anakin surveyed the scene again. Sand was beginning to fly. ?You?ll never make it in time. My house is just a few blocks down.?

?Are you offering us a place to stay??

?Sure. I?m not a real neat housekeeper, so the place is a bit messy, but it should be fine.? Anakin began to walk. He turned back to the Jedi and the Handmaiden. ?Come on, you?ll need shelter from the storm. Besides, I think I can help you with your problem.?

    * An Hour Later *

    ?Master??

?Did you get caught up in the storm, Obi-Wan?? Qui-Gon?s voice came clear through the communicator.

?Yes, Master.? Obi-Wan replied. ?A local slave boy was kind enough to provide us with shelter.?

    ?I see. How are things??

?Well, the boy?s name is Anakin Skywalker, and he?s presented us with a solution to our problem, although I?m not sure just how viable this solution is.?

    ?Well, let?s hear it.?

?Anakin is owned by Watto, the same Toydarian that runs the parts store I tried to buy from.? Obi-Wan paused. He was alone in the living room; Anakin and Padmé were someplace elsewhere. ?He says he can steal the parts for us. In exchange, he wants to come with us to Coru

Obi-Wan gets to stand for his trials? Now maybe he won't feel like Qui-Gon abandoned him to train Anakin, if that even happens in this one. I guess I'll have to wait and see, huh? Unless the author would like to give out any hints?

Yea, Obi-Wan is taking his trials!

Anakin is going to steal the parts?!? If Watto catches him, it will be very bad.

    Chapter III

This house really was Anakin?s place. The only room that didn?t look like a spare parts garage was the room Anakin slept in, and even that room had a small work bench with droid parts stacked neatly in the corner. Padmé knew from the moment she stepped in that this was a boy?s house, it was apparent from the complete lack of tidiness.

?Do you live here alone?? Padmé asked.

Anakin at first responded to her with silence. His back was turned to Padmé as she investigated the few personal effects Anakin had scattered about with machine parts. Anakin?s neck craned as he finally decided to acknowledge the handmaiden?s question.

    ?Yes.?

?Why? What happened to your parents??

?My father? my father was a deadbeat, I guess. I never knew him? he probably left before I was born.?

?It seems like you really don?t know anything about him at all.?

?My mother never spoke about him, never even mentioned his name... It was like he never even existed.?

    ?What happened to your mother??

Anakin almost dropped small machine he was working on. His hands steadied and a few deep breaths cooled the pain that was stewing within. ?My mother died a few years ago??

Padmé?s gaze focused upon the slave. Anakin?s back was still turned to her. ?I?m sorry??

He nodded slowly, the tears stung, but he refused to stop working. Freedom was only a few hours away. ?Watto lost some money on her, and I guess he always blamed me? ever since she died, he?s expected me to do the work of two slaves.? Anakin felt the sadness die down, only replaced by anger. ?I work in the shop all day, and he expects me to take all these parts with me and work at home too??

Anakin?s anger sent chills up Padmé?s spine. She didn?t know why, but there was something about him being angry that felt incredibly wrong. Her trembling hand found its way to his shoulder. He paused from his work and looked up at her, and she saw the pain on his face. She wanted to ease his pain, but to him, the fact that she cared was comfort enough.

?What are you working on?? Padmé asked.

?All slaves have a small transmitter placed inside them at one point or another, to track them in case they try to escape.? Anakin picked up the small machine he was working on. It was complete. ?This is a scanner I made to track down that transmitter.?

Padmé watched as the small device went active and Anakin began to scan himself with it. The device began to beep as Anakin passed it over his left arm. Anakin took a few moments to study the small screen that was affixed to the device. ?Its there. It?s in there deep, but its there.? Anakin picked up the knife that lay on his desk.

    ?What are you doing??

?I?m going to remove the transmitter.? Anakin pressed the tip of the blade into his forearm. Padmé blinked. ?Will you help me??

It took a few moments for Padmé to process what was happening. She nodded slowly and took the knife into her hands. Anakin braced himself for the pain. In a few hours he would be a free man and no longer a slave. It would be a change for the better, definitely, but change is always painful.

    * * * *

Anakin emerged from the room with a huge bandage wrapped around his left forearm. Padmé followed him. Obi-Wan nodded to them and opened to door to make way. R2 beeped and filed out, followed by Padmé. Anakin stopped abruptly.

?Wait, before we go, I need to know,? Anakin began, ?What you guys are really about.?

?What do you mean?? Obi-Wan asked.

?I mean, you?re a Jedi.? Anakin stated flatly. ?I saw your lightsaber, only Jedi carry that type of weapon. I know you?re going to Coruscant, but you still haven?t told me any clear details.?

?We?re on a diplomatic mission to Coruscant, escorting Queen Amidala of Naboo.? Padmé said.

    ?And you?re her handmaiden??

    Padmé nodded.

?There is a lot more to it than just that.? Obi-Wan said. ?But we don?t have time now. I?ll tell you more about it when we?re on the ship. You can meet Queen Amidala later if you wish.?

He already has? Padmé thought to herself.

    I'm here, I'm here.

So Anakin just basically freed himself. And Shmi's dead, so Anakin is somewhat emotionally unstable...can't wait to see where this leads!

I don't know if I like the idea of Anakin stealing the parts...why do I get the feeling he's going to get caught, and then something really bad is going to happen?

    Chapter IV

Tatooine night was as dark as Tatooine day was bright. Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padmé, and R2 led their pack of eopies to out through the desert. The sandstorm had reshaped much of the desert, and now there were many massive sand dunes piled everywhere. Obi-Wan kept his eyes peeled for any kind of danger. The stolen parts were loaded down in their eopies, and the punishment would certainly be severe if they were caught.

The ship was only a few hundred meters away now, and even in darkness, Anakin could see it. It was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The Naboo Royal Yacht?s chrome finish practically mesmerized the mechanic; he had never seen a ship so fine. The only thing that could even come close was Jabba the Hutt?s sand barge, and even that was a far cry from this gorgeous cruiser.

Obi-Wan craned his head and looked over to the ship. ?You see that man standing there?? He directed the question to Anakin. The mechanic nodded. ?That?s my master.?

    ?He?s a Jedi, too??

    ?Yes. Qui-Gon Jinn, my master.?

    ?Your master??

?Well, you see, I?m only a Padawan, an Apprentice? something like a Jedi-in-training.? Obi-Wan replied. Something within his mind seemed to rejoice as he realized that this could very well be the last time he?d have to introduce himself as ?Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Padawan?. ?Qui-Gon is my mentor.?

?How long have you been training to be a Jedi??

?Since I was an infant.? Obi-Wan scowled as his thoughts and feelings began to resurface. It was something he hadn?t thought about in months, maybe even years. ?My parents gave me to the Jedi Council when I was less than three months old. I? I never knew my family.?

Anakin frowned. He never had much of a family, and he never thought that the same went for the Jedi. Perhaps life as a Jedi wouldn?t be as perfect as he had always imagined it to be.

?Well, perhaps I could say that the Jedi Order is my family now.? Obi-Wan said with a smile. ?I was your age when Qui-Gon took me in as his apprentice, and he?s been something of a father to me ever since.?

Anakin smiled, feeling somewhat reassured by Obi-Wan?s explanation. He looked back to Padmé. She had been quiet for most of the trip, but he noticed whenever her mahogany eyes focused upon him. She realized he was looking at her and she smiled. He smiled back.

?So you?ve finally arrived, Obi-Wan.? Qui-Gon shouted to his Padawan. Eight meters of sand separated the two. ?Obi-Wan! Drop!?

The Padawan didn?t hesitate for a second, he dropped off his eopie. He heard a speeder flew over head, followed by the sound of two lightsabers igniting. Obi-Wan looked up and saw a dark figure leap off his speeder and attack Qui-Gon. He gasped as he saw the dark figure activate his weapon: a crimson lightsaber. A fallen Jedi!

Anakin and Padmé both pulled back as Qui-Gon?s emerald saber clashed against his attacker?s crimson. The two teens watched as the dark figure practically overwhelmed Qui-Gon with his blade. The dark figure kicked Qui-Gon away.

Obi-Wan jumped in on the battle, wielding his ice cool sapphire blade. He attacked the Dark Jedi. Obi-Wan found his slashes and strikes to have only marginal success against the Dark Jedi?s defense. Qui-Gon returned to the battle. The Dark Jedi kicked Obi-Wan away. Obi-Wan fell back several meters; he rose to his feet and took a second to recuperate. When he looked up, his system flooded with horror as he saw a second red blade extend from the Dark Jedi?s saber.

Darth Maul had honed his skills perfectly. His intensive training had paid off. This was the first time he had ever faced off against such worthy opponents, and he was besting them. Maul found the older Jedi?s skills to be lacking, primarily because his age was detrimental to his ability. The younger Jedi however was a much stronger foe. Maul would probably have to take them one at a time.

Obi-Wan attacked. Maul deflected his attack before refocusing on Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan attempted to coordinate their attacks, but Maul?s twin blades created too much disruption. Maul sw
