Was that the first occurrence of blood in a SW movie ? I'm trying to recall another time I've seen it and I can't think of one.

Though I admit, I'm surprised by the streaks of blood Finn put on his helmet around the beginning. Perhaps that's one of the reasons behind PG-13?

I've looked at it frame by frame on the part with Leia being shot and I don't see any blood.

 

It was very poetic blood. It explained Finn's horror, and it marked him for easy identification. A great little symbol.

 

Look at the tips of Han's thumb, middle and index fingers when he's putting his hands up.

wow, that's really stretching it.

 

When Leia has a bandage on her arm in ROTJ, I think there's a spot of blood in it.

Also, it's really quick, but at the sand barge in ROTJ, there's a scene where Chewie's leg is hurt, and he's sitting down on the skiff clutching it...i want to say you can see blood on the fur, but I dont recall the exact details. It's pretty much at the moment where Boba Fett is firing his wrist rocket at Luke
