Days after Pakistan are out of the cricket world cup, their coach is found unconscious in his hotel room, and dies shortly afterwards :(

Really shocking news this, I thought he was one of the best coaches around, and would have been ideal as the next England coach.

This is really sad news. I'm sure he would have had an important role to play with England in the near future. :(

    Sad news indeed. RIP mate.

I have to agree on that point. From first glance it could look the other way... :(

Actually down here I didn't hear about Freddie until on these boards. Bob was all over the news. I guess it was just up there for you, seeing as though it is your Freddie. :p

    Woolmer's death 'suspicious' - police

For ****'s sake. The possibility of him being murdered is absolutely sickening.

Whats so wrong about all of this, is that my initial thought was, I wonder if???

I know that its wrong to think like that but the timimg of it just struck that it could have been the case.

If it is so its a really bad day for cricket.

I thought suicide, definite possibility. But murder hadn't crossed my mind at all. :(

Suicide was my thought, too. :(

But murder... boy, I agree with jchef. There's still hope that it isn't, though...

Shocking developments. Who on earth would want to cause harm to him? :(

My first thought was suicide. "Suspicious" basically covers everything that isn't "natural causes", so no reason to think it's foul play.

Although, let's not forget what happened to Escobar [face_plain]

    Betting syndicate 'linked' to Woolmer
Now, that's a big ' around the linked part. But still, things are running wild now. This is bad.

I've just heard this news on the BBC's World Cup "highlights" programme. Absolutely devastating announcement, but I'm not surprised. When the Jamaican police held that press conferance you could tell something was "up." They wouldn't have held that kind of press conferance if they suspected natural cause's or suicide.

I just can't for the life of me imagine who would want to harm him. I guess it could be related to his personal life in some way, but I've got a horrible feeling this is going to be about some scandal within cricket itself.

Are the Cricket authorities right to continue the world cup? Or should it be sheleved in light of this news?

I was just reading the news myself. My thoughts echo G-F's, I'm thinking of some kind of scandal as well. :(

I don't think the World Cup should stop, though. You can't take such an event and stop everything. Cricket has to go on.

One theory presented yesterday was tht Woolmer was set to write / publish a book exposing sports betting corruption in Pakistani cricket.

There's always the 'crazed Pakistani fan(s)' theory too, but given that it happened in his hotel room with no apparent signs of forced entry, one would think the chances are Bob let his assailants into his room willingly, meaning they may have been known to him...

And I agree with the ICC's decision not to stop the tournament.

That's the article I mentioned earlier. It seems possible, although maybe even too possible.

Yeah, that makes it even worse. :(

I find it hard to believe that it's just a crazed Pakistani fan, but I guess anything is possible. But why go after the coach...?
