Evan, IN Book Club Update - Special Project - Input Needed

Ok fellow readers it is perhaps time to exercise OUR own writing skills.

Would it be cool and feasible for each Book Club member to write a short story set in the Star Wars galaxy?

The idea is to contribute a short bit of fan-fiction at a future meeting.

The rules are simple.

The stories can take place in any era. They must conform to official canon. NO INFINITIES. Some wiggle room is OK as long as it solves itself in face of official canon. There is a lot of gaps you can fit your story into.

The stories can be written in any hard copy format. For example my stories will be in teleplay script form. Each of our stories will be read aloud at a future meeting.

If you all like this idea let me know. Think of it as our TALES OF ------- anthology. Remember those?

Would a target date of late next Summer be OK? Or perhaps Fall of 2009?

Well I got one thumbs up on this idea.

It might be helpful if I present an example - not the whole teleplay mind you - but rather a simple rundown on era and dramatis personae for my story. At any rate it might help potential participants in firming up a story of their own.

Era - Vong War (25ABY-30ABY)

1. Blake Rothana - young male Human serving as an E-wing pilot for the New Galactic Republic. Blake is the leader of Joust Squadron when the Yuuzhan Vong invasion begins. Blake and Joust Squadron are attached to the Endurance Class Fleet Carrier named Meritable.. It should be noted that Blake is a member of the aristocratic Rothana family. This family owns Rothana Heavy Engineering. The company that built ships and vehicles for the Old Galactic Republic during the Clone War era.

2. Pole Gunray - was born a Neimodian, but was raised by Duros. Pole was the grub-son of the late Nute Gunray. After his father's death on Mustafar Pole's mother smuggled her grub-son to a Duros orphanage. Pole was adopted by a grubless Duros couple. Pole's adoptive parents were members of the Rebel Alliance. So young Pole grew up a Rebel. He would rise through the ranks to earn command of two starships. The first was a Rebel Assault Cruiser. The second was a Nebula Class Star Destroyer. When the Yuuzhan Vong invasion begins Pole is in command of the NCSD.

3. Spokosh - a non-humanoid Celegian in command of the ECFC Meritable.This creature can not survive without an environment suit. Celegians resemble jellyfish and octopi merged together. Oh and they use a kind of Force based levitation technique. Spokosh bought several old P-series astromechs and modified them. These oversized astromech droids now serve as rugged and mobile environment suits. Thus allowing Spokosh to lead his ship against the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

4. Cthul Vley - a young Jedi Knight and former student to both Kenth Hammer and Kyle Katarn. Cthul is a Mantaneran-Quarren. He has electric blue skin and orange eyes. Cthul's first duty as a young Jedi Knight is leading a group of NR Galactic Marines. These NR Galactic Marines are assigned to the Defender Class Assault Carrier named Spearcast. It should be noted that the NR Galactic Marines led by Cthul are Gamorrean. All seven hundred of them are.

5. Cheryl Beneciti - young female Human serving as a TIE Defender pilot for the Imperial Remenant. Her father served with Gilead Palleon. Thus Cheryl is like a surrogate daughter to Pellaeon. Cheryl's duties include escorting IR freighters and tankers while traveling in New Galactic Republic space lanes. Cheryl first meets Blake Rothana when she and her squadron of TIE Defenders are savaged by Yuuzhan Vong invaders. Blake and Joust Squadron aide the Imperials as a gesture of good will in the face of a bigger threat. Cheryl and Blake will share a night togther.

and many more characters yet to be revealed to my readers.

To know more about these characters and their fates you'll have to wait for the Hour of Sharing. So does this kinda help? Remember for your own stories you can pick any era and any tone. But the stories must NOT be INFINITIES stuff. Try to fit your characters and plots in the nooks and crannies left by official works. Oh and also your story can be done in any format. So long as it can be read aloud to other Book Club members.

Yes I think it would be fun. That makes three votes to the Like-It-Level. Others eh?

 

Funny we are talking about this, as I have atrated to re-read the old WEG Adventure Journals. If those who don't remeber, WEG had about 15 digest sized journals of short fiction, news, miniature games stuff, RPG stuff, and non-fiction. For the first few years, they allowed the lay people to submit art and content. Umong those lay people were Matt Buch, Pablo Hildago, whats his face Pena, and others who would later gain employment in Lucasfilm. The stoped accepting submitions about 2 years in.

So, for two wonderful years; we all could have been future EU writers!

Sadly, my writing skills were not up to pair in 1992 (age:13). Most of my stories revolved around a charictor named Jam'eez. He was a jedi, and a pilot, and a smuggeler, and he flew a freighter but with a lot of guns and super douper sheilds and it was super fast. In one story, he had a super-SUPER-star destroyer (five times the size of the Executor). And, he allways got to sleep with the girls. A lot of girls. They even let him touch their boobs. He never was ever in any danger, and he allways won and everbody loved him. Becouse he was cool. And he was popular. And no one ever made fun of him, or his action figure collection, and he never had acne, and was never in band. And if he ever did get picked on in Jr High-- his friend the wookie would beat them all up.

I have no idea why the Jam'ees stories never got published.
