    Hi all--

For the curious, the latest issue of the Del Rey Internet Newsletter gives the following page counts for upcoming Star Wars novels:

Star By Star (hardback, Nov. 2001): 624 pages.

The Approaching Storm (hardback, Feb. 2002): 288 pages.

Dark Journey (paperback, Feb. 2002): 384 pages.

I haven't tried to keep track on how closely page counts projected four months in advance match the actual page counts, but I'd assume that SbS's page count is probably accurate.

I'd consider the count for S^2 accurate because we've been hearing that this will be a long book from several other sources. Not so sure about the others...

I emailed Elaine Cunningham awhile back and that is what she approximated the length of Dark Journey would be when I asked her.

I hope they're right about that 384 page count, and Dark Journey isn't squished down to a 200 page book like EoV was.

Hardcovers hold more words per page. So as a paperback it would be over 300. And Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (aka A New Hope novelization) and Splinter of the Mind's Eye both were not that long. But both very enjoyable.

So far, Del Rey's hardcovers have had big letters and spaces. It might be slightly longer than a paperback would be, but not by much.

The books wouldn't need to be longer if they would just eliminate the unnecessary plot threads and kick them to another book or something.

Someone remind me. ^2 is what comes before the ^ squared, right?

'Star by Star' is a long book... but I don't think it is THAT long.

I am a little disappointed by the page count for 'The Approaching Storm'.

288 pages seems more like a prologue than an actual novel. Episode 2 hype?

Well, TAS has been framed as a prequel to AotC in the same manner as CoD is to TPM. And 288 pages is about the typical length of a movie novelization, so perhaps TAS has about as much content as AotC or TPM.

I just got the DRIN newsletter, as well. SxS is 624 pgs ?? Last I heard it was a little over 5 and change. I really hope the page count is correct, just like the rest of you.

Oh, and by the way, does anyone know when and where at TOS the SXS winners will be announced ? If so please enlighten me.

Suncrusher we shouldn't be worried about SbS be listed for November because that's one it is and has been since we started getting anything official on it.

Same for Dark Journey. It is a February book but just like SbS and BP and quite a few others it's coming out the last Tuesday of the preceding month.

Knight1192: "Someone remind me. ^2 is what comes before the ^ squared, right? "

Yes, the ^ is often used to denote an exponent, how many times a number is multiplied by itself.
In this case, SxS becomes S^2 (S squared).

DL, you suprised me that you knew that, being an English major and all. ;)
