..course the solution to the PS3 price problem is to just wait for a price drop.

That's what i'm doing. I plan on celebrating the launch of the PS3 by picking up a price-dropped Xbox360.

A year or 2 down the road, i'll pick up a ps3. It's not like there'll be any good games anyways.

Hey, I know how to get a PS2 and an Xbox360 waaaay cheaper than the launch price without boycotting anything!

Wait a year before you buy one, it's that simple.

(I see someone else a few posts up also suggested this extremely practical solution. Bravo)

    Indeed.

And the fun part is if Blu ray beats my expectations I'll get a blue ray player for even cheaper then they are now.

And nto to mention the option of buying a movie to watch on it that isn't Hitch.

That isn't reason enough? How about...

    1) Gran Turismo 4
    2) Tekken 6
    3) Assasin's Creed
    4) WarHawk
    5) Splinter Cell 4
    6) Madden NFL 2007

There are plenty of great games coming out for the PS3, I personally can't wait for Final Fantasy 13 and Assasins Creed.

Let's not forget Devil May Cry 4. I would happily murder a million innocent puppies and throw them on a massive sacrificial pyre to the gods of awesomeness if it meant I could have that game and the means to play it on. But maybe that's just me.

I have such a backlog of PS2 games to play that I can easily wait until Christmas next year before considering a PS3. So that's what I'll be doing. But the PS3 is only costing $100 more here than the PS2 at launch, so I don't think it's going to be as harsh on sales as some people think.

Good point. Get a good/decent job, and one can have a PS3. Quit crying.

Amen. That's all I'm going to say.

Metal Gear 4 looks good, but i can wait a year for a price drop AND get the inevitable "Metal Gear 4: SUBSTISTENCE" or whatever. It'll be a better game anyways. They'll have ironed out the kinks, and it'll be cheaper.

Same goes for Madden.. I can just get 2008 :p

Splinter Cell 4 will be coming out for the 360, too. I won't miss anything there.

I've never had any love for the Tekken series.

The Gran Turismo series is played out.

The only two i can't give a definite answer for are Assassin's Creed and Warhawk.

I'm sure they'll be available for cheaper in a year's time.

Firstly, not only will people midnight queue for high priced console debuts like dutiful lambs, they'll actually do it. So accept the watered down beer knowing your liver is laughing at you. Throw in an extra giggle while you're at it, too---if Nintendo is indeed targeting the 10-20yos, hey, doesn't that mean you'll see more kid'n'cartoony games too? And finally, the grand chuckle of 'em all: Zelda: They're so similiar to each other you play you've played them all, only for loads more initial money.

I don't have six grand plasma holovids; I don't have comlinks, and a good PC is better value than 3yr duration consoles. It's not that I'm laughing, it's just . . . stuff it, [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

Generally speaking, console lifespans are about 5 years, actually (M$ jumped the gun a biut this time to get the 360 out there first).

To be fair, Ocarina of Time was the notable exception, being the transition from 2D Zelda to 3D Zelda. And, although I can't actually argue against your point, Ex, I must say that although the system recieves only the minorest of tweaks (usually not much beyond adapting to a new controller scheme), each game has made its own individual mark by having vastly different... flavors, I guess. OoT tried to illicit a sense of awe. MM was a race against time. WW was a look far into Hyrule's future, and TP is said to have a much darker feel to it.

Part of the reason for these high costs isn't just to turn a profit (remember, Microsoft never turned a profit on the Xbox until the release of Halo 2). One of the major reasons they have high prices is to cover the costs of production...and even then, Microsoft and Sony don't quite make it.

Keep in mind that MS lost about $300 for every Xbox sold. Now it loses about $127 for each 360 sold.

Sony, I would assume, is able to avoid some of these costs (as Sony has a films division which, I think, would make it easier for them to attain Hollywood liscensing to play films on their console). Even so, financial reports have shown that Nintendo's Gamecube has been the most profitable of the big three (keep in mind that I say profit and not revenue). This has been because of Nintendo's ability to keep the GC cost down to a bare minimum (lack of features yield cheaper product for everyone involved).

Sony and MS like to dish out all-in-one machines, and these aren't cheap to make even when you wear big names like theirs. They need to make up for the costs of production.

I don't think these companies even earn much of a profit (if any) during the initial launch season. If you boycott a PS3, you'll only hurt the market entire.

Actually, I don't think they did even then (something like losing 4 billion in 4 years).

According to my research, MS did in fact make a profit on the Xbox by the time of Halo 2's release (I'd post the citation, but I'd have to dig through the research paper to find it...I used to analyze the video game industry for my managerial economics and managerial finance classes).

Eh, i'm afraid i have to agree with Ex. Ocarina of Time is one of the greatest games i've ever played. Since then, the Zelda series has merely been copies of it. Very dull copies of it, at that.

I've given up on the series until we get the next great gaming revolution.
