Somebody post some brainteasers.....please! My brain's all pumped up with nowhere to go!

Professor Zizoloziz puts 40 matches on the table and explains a game to his friend Kathy.
Each player in turn takes 1,3,or 5 matches. The winner is the one who takes the last match. Kathy chooses to go first and takes 3 matches.
Who do you think will win this game, Kathy or the professor?

Well, with a name like "The professor" you`d figure that he would win....

I think you're correct Ian.....but you're supposed to explain WHY!!!

No matter what the professer does, because Kathy went first, she will always be subtracting an odd amount from an even number, leaving an odd amount....never zero.
The professer will always be subtracting an odd amount from an odd amount...and can eventually take the last match. Am I right? ?
