Stop the presses! Raiders Achieve First Down In an improbable display of competence and a basic execution of football fundamentals, the Oakland Raiders stunned the football world Sunday when running back Michael Bush miraculously rushed for three yards against the Giants and succeeded in converting a first down. The Raiders, who fearlessly faced a third-and-one situation on their own 22-yard-line, somehow gained the 36 inches needed for an elusive first down, despite numerous obstacles that included a professional NFL defense, owner Al Davis' incompetent personnel decisions, mediocre play-calling, and general ineptitude. "I cannot believe what I just saw," said CBS commentator Greg Gumbel, adding that he was amazed the Raiders advanced the ball beyond the line of scrimmage, let alone gained a full 10 yards. "The fact that they were out on the field for three consecutive plays without turning the ball over is incredible. But a first down? An actual first down from the Oakland Raiders? You?I mean?I just, I can't?" "I'm speechless," Gumbel added. <more>
Didn't watch an ounce of football this weekend. What went on? Upsets? are there still 5 team w/ 5-0? I think tonight will be a good close one but we will pull it out in the end. Will be nice to beat them on their turf.
There are 4 undefeated teams left, including the Broncos. There were several upsets this week, including the Raiders beating the Eagles, the Chiefs beating the Redskins, and the Texans beating the Bengals. The Titans got blown out by the Patriots 59-0, though I'm not sure if that has more to do with the Pats being a dominant team (that the Broncos were able to dominate ), or the Titans just giving up after the first quarter. Also, the Saints beat the crap out of the Giants and the Bills beat the Jets, so New York is pretty pissed off this week.
Still not convinced we are awesome, while we did some amazing things, we got several calls in our favor that are questionable. I still love my Broncos & wish them all the best in kicking everyone else @$$ but...... Only time will tell. I super happy we won, SD looked so broken in the second half
Which calls were those? I can only think of the touchdown pass to Stokely on the goal line, but it's not like we couldn't have scored on the very next play anyway. That call didn't change the game. One call that DID change the game was the pass interference call against Andre Goodman in the 4th quarter. Goodman was running behind Vincent Jackson while looking back for the ball, when Jackson turned completely around to change directions because Rivers' pass was off target. He bumped into Goodman and they flagged him for pass interference. So instead of it being 4th down from the Chargers' 26 yard line, it was 1st down from the Denver 40 yard line. The Broncos ended up stopping them on 4th down and taking the ball back, but that penalty definitely gave the Chargers a chance to score.
wowwowowWOWOWWOW! six and oh! I'm alternating between ecstatic and stunned. We are really killing in the 4th quarters.
I'm stunned & won't be elated until they beat the Steelers (and yes I will root for the Broncos). I have Raider fans on FB and they think the Raiders are doing good & are this great team & stuff. I'm LMAOROTF like no other.
we won we won! sorry i know a bit late. So...the Titans play the 49ners....not sure what to expect. I am proud of Chris Johnson...he had 228 rushing yards with 24 carries. Won AFC Offensive player of the week. hey for a crappy season it is something! Good luck to the Broncos.
I'm pretty sure they will cream the 9'ners. Monday night Football, baby! I want the Broncos to win, but Steelers are my 2nd fav team.
Sounds like the Broncos are close to signing cornerback Ty Law. Sounds great on paper, but I wonder how much he's got left in the tank at age 35.
Since the Colts have clinched their playoff spot, it's possible they might rest some of their starters next week. edit: typo
Unless Indy lays up and doesn't start Manning, it'll probably be the toughest team the Broncos will play all year. Not a high probability of success there. However, we should be able to win the rest of our games this season, which means the Broncos could end up being 11-5. The Chargers play a much tougher schedule from here on out, so hopefully they'll lose at least two more games and give us a chance at being first place again. Chargers remaining games: at Dallas Cowboys vs. Cincinnati Bengals at Tennessee Titans vs. Washington Redskins Broncos remaining games: at Indianapolis Colts vs. Oakland Raiders at Philidelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Its always hard for me when the Broncos play the Colts. I get confused who I am cheering for, and sometimes people throw things at me and glare.
