Burn - A New Republic Mystery

If you were a member of a covert operative force given a secret mission to raid an enemy stranglehold in order to retrieve vital information to take down the ultimate enemy ... what kind of solider would you be? All guns blazing? Slow and steady?

Would you be cocky? Uncertain? Could you handle the pressure of leading a team? Or do you follow orders to the letter?

Done? Now, take those answers of yours ... and throw them away. Forget them. Everything that you've learnt, everything that you know, means nothing here. For in this story, you're neither the good or bad. You just live to survive, in every sense of the word.

Welcome to Burn. You are now a former member of the above mentioned covert operative team. And as of today ... you no longer exist.

What does it all mean? If I told you now, I'd have to kill you. But don't panic just yet. As with all things in life, the truth will reveal itself in time. Just hope you're alive long enough to see it.

    Still cocky?

    Outline

Burn, inspired by the TV series 'Burn Notice', is a simple story, based after the events of the Battle of Endor. The Empire has fallen, the Sith no longer exist. Your mission was to clear out a pocket of resistance fighters, enemies of the New Republic. And then, something happened that none of you expected. You were setup, and the message came through. You've been burnt. There are no traces of your existence, no contacts, no belongings. Nothing. To survive, as a team, you must work together to uncover the truth. Who left you behind? Is it a simple case of mistaken identity? Or are you about to uncover the biggest mystery the Galaxy has ever known.

    Game rules

    1. PM character sheets for approval.
    2. Please be aware of the TOS. If you have any questions, there are threads and Mods who can easily answer them.
    3. Any questions or issues regarding the game itself, or perhaps a suggestion or two, can be PM'd to the GM.
    4. Godmoders will be killed on sight. No ... really.
    5. Be clear and concise with each post. If you are unsure of what to post, or uncertain on other character movements, PM your fellow player or the GM and build a rapport. The closer the team of five are, the better you will interact in-game.
    6. Enjoy the ride.

    Sign-ups

Considering the nature of the game, sign-ups are open to five willing and able RP'ers to begin with. You will need to create and PM the pre-defined character sheet below. There is one simple rule to follow in terms of character creation:

    1. No Force Users or Imperials. This is a clear cut, rebel soldier only campaign, so to speak.

Everything else is up to you. Keep it simple, refreshing and, most importantly, interesting.

This of course influenced Nate to join due to tradition, but he soon got bored of the meaningless patrols and days of just sitting around. He was about to turn in his resignation when he heard of the rebellion taking place against the Empire. Nate still turned in his resignation and then sought out the rebels who called themselves the New Republic.but during the battle of Yavin, Nate was met with a disturbing surprise, he and his team had been left behind by the people he thought were on his side, his friends. Now Bishop is without and identity, without a life, and now he's out to get it back.

    Name: Stenton Carrios
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
    Age: 28
Profession: Tracker/Beast Master (Tracker means more of a proficiency in rifle's and stealth with some experience with hand to hand.)
Appearance: Tall and burly, his clothing is strictly spartan, only the bare minimum of equipment and clothes touches his skin. he usually wears a loose fitting brown scout uniform with a backpack full of equipment.
Brief Biography: Born on a frontier world Stenton was raised on a farm where his parents bred guard animals. On his world and it's surrounding neighbors these animals were in high demand for their relative cheap cost in comparison to blasters, and the high quality of training.

With these skills Stenton took his own personally trained Kath Hound,Ustath, and went to the local security forces, from the age of 18 to 22 he worked for them, learning to be a tracker for the various criminals who hid out on that rough side of the galaxy. However Stenton dreamed of more, of leaving that corner and going to fight the empire for the rebellion, so he packed his bags and left.

Joining the rebellion his skills were put to good use and he soon joined an elite team as a tracker for the rebellion.

    APPROVED Character Sheet:

    Name: Dayton Leer
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
    Age: 24
Profession: Information Dealing, Electronic Warfare, Blaster Pistol Marksmanship
Appearance: Dayton is 6'4" tall, and weighs in at 210 lbs. He is athletic yet muscular enough to handle himself when things get rough. A scar covers his right arm from hand to elbow, inflicted by electrical burns. A black tattoo of the Imperial Crest stretches across his right triceps. His dark brown hair is kept generally short all over, but somewhat longer in the back. He also wears earlobe-length close sideburns. Typically wears longer jackets to conceal equipment, weapons, etcetera. Dons high black field boots and heavy cargo pants, topped off with gloves. Mostly dresses in dark hues to not draw attention.
Brief Biography: Dayton was a loner throughout his younger years, growing up on the library world of Obroa-Skai, choosing to learn and study instead of keep himself physically fit and active. He always viewed life as a sequence: earlier years were time for building the mind, and the body would follow.

He had a knack for technical applications of all kinds, especially those dealing with electronics and information procurement and dealing.

When he was 18 he joined the Imperial academy and proved himself in their information warfare programs, and he became an integral, if shadowy, part of Imperial Intelligence.

However, he didn't always see eye-to-eye with the Imperial ideals. In fact, when the destruction of Alderaan was completed at the behest of Grand Moff Tarkin, an abhorred Oligard merely extricated himself from the Imperial system. One can even go so far as to speculate that he used his skill in info dealing to alter his records and whereabouts within the Empire, allowing him to slip away to the Rebellion unnoticed.

The man served with the Rebel Alliance through the remainder of its conflict with the greater Galactic Empire, and eagerly watched as it transformed itself into the New Republic.

It was then however, that something very unexpected happened; something that the affluent Oligard himself could not decipher.

OOC: Thank you all for joining the game. I'm pleased to confirm that the five places are now full, and the game shall commence. To complete the character list, my own bio is below, followed by a quick introduction post to get us up to speed.

For the record, if all goes to plan there may be a second recruitment process in the not too distant future. If anyone else is willing and able, please PM me with your interest to join the wait list.

    Name: Yrel Chabose
    Species: Human
    Gender: Female
    Age: 26
    Profession: Hacker / Weapons Expert
    Brief Biography:

Brought up on the remote space station 'Triffid', Yrel was taught the importance of awareness, silence and patience. Even at a young age, her ability to hack into databanks surprised her father, let alone herself. That skill would lead to a choice, to leave home and make use of her talent for the good of the Galaxy. Seeking out the Rebels, she joined the underground movement to fight back against the Empire. Over the course of two years, she trained heavily with weaponry, both light and heavy, to compensate for her small, five foot seven inch stature.

With the fall of the Imperials, Yrel was recruited into an elite and highly secretive task force. Three previous missions went as planned, taking out small pockets of former Imperial troops and gaining vital information for the cause. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the fourth...

    IC - Yrel Chabose
    Location - Unknown

The little white Kushiban nestled up against her tightly, rubbing its soft fur against her face. "Are you well, master?" it asked. Yrel frowned.

"Uhh ... I guess so" she replied, patting her imaginary friend.

"You gave me a right old scare," Tiki smiled, "I thought you had hurt yourself."

Yrel sighed. "Tiki, I was only playing," she said, "You really worry too much you know."

"But ... why are you bleeding?"

Yrel frowned again, then noticed a drop of scarlet on her hand. Hesitantly, she lifted her hand up to her eyes, looking closely at what she thought was a ...

"It's just a scratch," she said finally, "See, only a lit... little ..." The room began to spin, violently, never ending. She heard screams, she tried to herself but nothng came out. And then, darkness.

It was the crackling of broken power cables that eventually woke Yrel from her slumber. Forcing her eyes open, she was greeted by the last thing she ever expected. A man.

"Easy, kid, easy" Travis Korry's familiar voice spoke up, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Wh-," her head was spinning, "What?"

"I don't know," Travis replied, taking a small cloth to a wound on her forehead, "One minute we're flying to our destination, next minute we crashed."

Yrel opened her eyes again, trying to re-focus. The familiar surroundings of the transport ships' interior came into view around her, as did the rest of her team. Nathan sat next to Dayton, who nursed what appeared to be his shoulder as the elder of the two treated the wound. "I have no idea if I'm doing this properly" she heard Nathan curse, to which Dayton responded "Better than me, at the very least".

Boru and Stenton, meanwhile, were hard at work repairing an access panel, sparks flying left and right as the two worked quickly to get the damaged crafts' power back online. The lights began to flicker overhead, bringing a small smile to the Zabrak's face.

Yrel did her best to sit up straight, feeling another sharp stint of pain from her head wounds. "The pilot," she mumbled, "is he...?". Travis shook his head. What ever hit them, hit them hard. She must have been out a fair while if the old Tiki dreams had kicked in.

    Frack me she thought.

Nate sat next to Dayton who had received a shoulder wound in the crash. Nathan was not a trained medic, but he knew some of the basics after serving in the Rebel Special Forces and now this. He had picked up a lot nifty little tricks and skills here and there that helped him out during missions. But sadly to say, medical care wasn?t one of them.

?Well Frack, it ain?t pretty but it will close up that leak in your shoulder,? said Nathan as he finished wrapping up the wound in Dayton?s shoulder.

He then got up and walked over to Yrel. He still had all his gear on, that was good. He had his basic jungle fatigues, along with his tactical vest that he carried his munitions and other gadgets in. and his weapon was still in good shape to, just a little muddy. He looked over at the once airborne transport and he wondered what had happened. One minute he was just sitting there catching some shut eye when he felt the jolt and the transport went down. Nathan just remembers dragging himself out of one of the doors of the transport and out, where he landed on the ground with a heavy thud, which knocked his unconscious until he awoke along with many of the others. He was now standing over Yrel.

?You alright there Top?? he said squatting down next to her his country drawl coming out, which was common with him, after his childhood life of growing up on a farm outside Coronet city.

Leer winced slightly as his bandage was tightened and thanked Nathan as the man walked away to accompany the team lead, whom Dayton had just seen trashing about in her sleep before waking up.

Standing up, he looked at his wound. Well at least it wasn't my head...I could have ended up like the pilot. Leer looked dismally toward the cockpit which, from what he could see, was spattered with blood.

He literally had no idea how they crashed. Catching a catnap in the hold before the mission was set to step off, he had been woken by the sudden turbulence of the descent. But right now, the biggest mystery was where they were and how they had come to crash like they did.

Realizing that the greatest need at the moment was to assist Yrel in understanding the situation, he paced over to where her and Nathan were.

"Hey boss," he said quietly. "How are you?" Dayton queried, reaching his hand out to brush gently the gash on her head. "I volunteer to head outside and figure out what we're dealing with as to external condition of the ship, surroundings, and whatnot."

"Now idea Doc, but it appears to be jungley," said Nathan with a slight smirk.

He looked around at their surroundings. they were obviously on Yavin, since that is where they were stationed and it was where they were to clear out the pockets of resistance. he looked again over at the craft and saw the pilots helmeted head leaning up against the glass of the cockpit. he gave aslight cringe and then turned back to Travis.

"Well wherever we are i'm sure we'll find out soon. hopefully Dayton can find out what or who shot us down, if we were even shot down. I guess we won't know unless we get a move on soon. But for now let's rest up and recuperate," said Bishop before turning to look out into the jungle, wondering what in the Sith's name was out there.

"Trust you to be the curious one," Yrel quipped, finally finding the energy to speak up. She had merely nodded gently, waving away the help of the others when they asked of her condition. She continued to rest her hand over the wound on her head, "Now if you mild mannered detectives don't mind, let's get on with the show."

Yrel forced herself to stand on her feet, the others quickly crowding around to help. "I'm okay, really," she said, leaning gently on the cool steel railing behind her, "Now ... what was the plan again? Oh, right, uhh ...," she paused for a moment, waving her free hand around as if trying to remember ... something ... umm ... oh right, "Bishop, set up a perimeter, let's make sure we've got our rears covered. Have Dayton help you once he's examined the exterior. Trav, be a doll and help me over to the cockpit, will you?"

More sparks flickered from the other side of the ship, catching her attention. "How long before we've got power back, guys?" she shouted over to Boru and Stenton.

"Maybe once we find out the current situation with the ship, we should check out this place. I'm sure there must be other life forms present..." Said Travis

?Yeah I think your right; I?m just still shook up after the crash. I can?t even remember if we completed the mission or not, or if we even got to Yavin,? said Nathan scratching the back of his head. Yrel then spoke.

"Bishop, set up a perimeter, let's make sure we've got our rears covered. Have Dayton help you once he's examined the exterior. Trav, be a doll and help me over to the cockpit, will you?"

?You got it top; I?ll see what I can scavenge from the crash. Maybe we could scavenge some of the lights then hook them up to a sensor so we won?t be caught off guard at night. I?ll also see what weapons are left in the inside.?

Bishop then crawled inside the mangled heap of metal that was once their transport. He crawled inside the cargo hold, where they had been sitting before they went down. Here he found two crates, one filled with three blaster rifles, one sniper rifle, and six blaster pistols. In the other he found a box of thermal detonators, medical supplies, as well as other survival supplies. He grabbed the first crate and drug it out of the transport, and then went back in to drag out the second. He also checked the pilots who were both armed. One had a blaster pistol while the other had a blaster carbine.

Once Bishop had scanned over the craft thoroughly, he hooked up the working lights on the graft t a perimeter of sensors around the crash sight, so if any wild indigenous fauna or the people who shot them down, were to come across them in the night they would set off the sensors thus igniting the lights, which allowed them to not be caught off guard.

Stenton had been relatively unharmed in the crash. Not that he knew what was going on, when he'd first woke up he'd made sure that Ustath was still alive and unharmed. After that he'd gotten to work with Boru on the energy, and had helped him achieve at least the lights. Stenton wasn't much of a gear head though so he hoped at the very least he didn't help blow the ship up even more. He responded to Boru's nod with an understanding smile, he wondered how long the others would take to get ready, no matter what they did he felt they should get off the ship quickly.

    IC - Yrel Chabose

The sun had set in the distance, a cool breeze wafting in from the North, as Bishop set the light fixtures. Things seemed surprisingly quiet outside, but inside the fallen craft was a different story. Having moved the dead bodies of both pilots, and doing her best to ignore the stench of death that wafted in the air, Yrel tapped at the controls, bringing up a holo display of the ships condition.

"I got it," she nodded towards Boru, "Diagnostics are online."

There was a long, drawn out sigh as the data rolled in and around the projection. "Well, the good news is we're not dead in the water. The bad news is, we've got a lot of re-wiring to do to get this bird off the ground."

Yrel was certain she heard a grown or two from her crew as she continued to explain. Under most circumstances she would have said something to lift the spirits, but considering the current situation ... she really didn't know how.

"We'll have to bypass the hyperdrive and weapons systems," she said, not realising she had rested a hand to her wound once more, "That should leave us with enough power for ... life support and engines, at the very least." She whinced, finding it hard to keep her concentration. Really need an ale she thought, before pointing to a diagram that had appeared. "The left wings taken some damage, the radar system too. We're blind until we get that back up."

She turned, deliberately slowly, and tried to smile toward her comrades. "Well, since this is going to take a while, anyone intersted in a slumber party?"

Another groan, though this time it came from Ustath, the Kath Hound rustling inside a small rucksack in search of food.

    --##--

Outside, meanwhile, the sun had long passed away for another day. The breeze had picked up quickly, sending dust into the air. It would no doubt be a dark, and perhaps miserable, night.

"Trust you to be the curious one. Now if you mild mannered detectives don't mind, let's get on with the show."

Dayton laughed to himself, and held up his hands in a "whatever you say" gesture. Turning around, he picked around the contents of the rattled transport, looking for his own personal storage locker, where he kept a few of his essentials. In this case, he needed his pistols from inside.

After a few moments of searching, amidst the rest of the team going about their different duties, he found his locker on the floor underneath a few sheared off panels. It was relatively undamaged, the exterior that is. After releasing the latch, he pulled on the lid, but to no avail.

"Are you kidding me?" he let out in his sarcastic fashion.

Reaching around to the small of his back where his vibro-knife holster was located, he brandished the weapon with blinding speed, spinning it around his fingers as he did so. It's highly-polished blade reflected the occasional shower of sparks from the damaged and sputtering electrical systems.

He picked up the battered strongbox, jamming the blade into the seam, and twisting. The box sprung open, and Dayton eagerly checked the contents after putting his knife away.

Groaning, "No!" he sifted through the items inside, most of them smashed electrical boxes and components. "You'd think that ProCorps III would have lasted long enough for me to at least use it once!"

Leer picked up a few of his other now-useless electronics with one hand and tossed them against the nearest wall. He recovered both of his undamaged pistols however, and a glowrod, and made his way for the vessel's exit while sliding one of his blasters into its holster at his side.

Outside, he found Bishop, who was finishing rigging up a series of lights so as to create a perimeter around the vessel to ward off the gathering darkness.

"Bishop, I'm headed out there," Dayton nodded toward the darkness beyond their perimeter, "Maybe move out a few klicks and see what we've got nearby. Tagging along? Come on, don't let the dark creep you out like that time on Sardoran," he punched his friend lightly in the shoulder to illustrate the humor of that past mission.

"Bishop, I'm headed out there," Dayton nodded toward the darkness beyond their perimeter, "Maybe move out a few klicks and see what we've got nearby. Tagging along? Come on, don't let the dark creep you out like that time on Sardoran,"

?Hey that have could have been a Rancor den, and even though it wasn?t, it could have been, and the last thing I want is to be eaten alone in the dark inside a Rancor den. Yeah sure I?ll come along, I?m finished with the lights anyways.? he said with a laugh.

?just let me get my stuff,? he said opening the weapons container he had pulled from the ship. He pulled out his blue Bolt blaster and a DC-15 s blaster pistol. He checked them and then put the pistol into a hip holster he carried.

?Alright let?s be off, let?s now linger though, I have a bad feeling about this planet and I don?t want to spend too much time away from the group. Let?s go,? he said as they both wandered off into the darkness of the jungle upon this alien moon.

"Wait up I'm coming too!" Travis yelled as he ran to catch up with Bishop and Dayton. He needed something to pass the time, and this seemed like a good idea.
