    I'm very sorry about missing the last post, Noelie. Despite my hopes to the contrary, there was more paperwork to be done, and a wedding to attend, and a family get together, and all told? I missed a post. I'm very, very sorry, and as I'm already wearing my Bad Luna hat, feel free to point and laugh.

    Anyway.

    Dooku was just creepiness. You made him very human, almost a sympathetic character with a dark side, which is a very weird position to be in, let me tell you. Being sympathetic to someone you know will be/is evil is weeeeird.

    And the thoughts he put in her head? ...Wha'? That can't possibly good. What did Dooku steal? What will Dooku have available to tell Palpatine? Bad. Very bad. And he gave her stuff... Bad. Very bad.

    Now, this post. I'm glad that Liam is getting lessons on how to defend himself. Of course that will eventually be useful.

    And yes. This does have a definite Nazi feeling to it... also a bit of the Christmas story to it, too, but that's just for my giggles. And so they all had to return to their native town to be registered... anyway. It is just wrong for anyone to have to register, at all, when Palpatine has no "good" reason for that purpose, and obviously no one is fighting it.

    But the idea of Palpatine wanting to talk to Liam is positively... eeew. No way. He is not going to do what I think he is going to do. Bad. Very bad.

    Wonderful update, Noelie. I'm sorry for being late. I don't make any promises for the punctuality anymore; everytime I think I will, some crisis or RL event kills those plans. But I'm always going to come back... just... maybe a little tardy. =D=

    Wow, now for the registration of all citizens, shudder. You are doing so well with all the alusions to things we know and have seen. I'm getting more and more intrigued.

    Princess of Naboo: Well we couldn't hope that Palpatine had forgotten our favorite family just yet. After all he has an army of "hands" to build and collaborators to build, Sweet gem of a dictator that he is.

    And Yes I think Liam is going to have to just get a little more prepared to be as strong physically as we all know he is emotionally. I think he should do well, although that road might be bumpy.. we shall have to see.

    Ish: Yes, indeed it is all very Nazi. I don't think people realize all the things that they did to lead up to the final solution. Even to registering citizens and forcing geneologies.

    Luna_Nightshade: Indeed I do know about DRL. I didn't know to send the second notice or not, because I didn't want to nag when I know how busy you have been!

    While it does have a reminder of the Christmas story, it is more a symptom of dictatorship type activties and other groups besides the Romans have done it. I remember reading histories of people in Europe and what many don't realize is that many were put through the register for your own good kind of thinking.
    They had to prove who they were.

    I don't think people lose freedom overnight, it is given away, slowly and surely, with stupidity.

    I am glad Dooku was chilling for you. I know from my own background that good and evil, the side you are on is a daily choice. None of use are "born" that way. In part the realization might give you compassion, "There but for the grace of God go I" sort of thing, but it should also give pause. Dooku was a worthy Jedi once, which is why the council couldn't see him for a wolf in sheeps clothing. Anakin wasn't evil until he put his wants above what was right, and he was the one that MADE a choice, not by birth or genetics.. but simple choice. The difference for all of us ;) I couldn't make Dooku any less because of that.

    Araxie: I am trying :) We are so going to have to talk tomorrow!

    I am so behind on my reading. To quote my favorite Homer: "D'oh!" :oops:

    Anyway, they were all excellent posts.

    I reflected later laying in the late morning light, holding my sleeping wife, that though everything was feeling increasingly out of kilter in the universe and people at large, we still had the one thing that felt right.

    Love.

    [face_love] I love that Noela and Liam are always there for each other, no matter what.

    Dooku's visit was very interesting. And Palpy's new plans, for registering everyone...I dislike him more and more.

    I'm really glad Liam's been taking defense lessons. :D

    Wonderful job, Noelie! =D= And I'm really sorry for missing so many posts.

    No worried Amidalachick. Do you know what I do? No kidding. I have done this to Luna_nightshade and Ish to name a couple. where I read the post. I could SWEAR I have posted. then Nada. Nothing.

    I don't know what I am dreaming up.. but good grief!

    Anyway it was just to say I am just glad you came running back around!

    Anyway: YES! I love my Liam and Noela together. I have been able to see people that love. I mean really really love. Actually Araxie and her Wolf are like that.. so I can say it IS realistic. I wanted that for this pair.

    Dooku's visit is interesting. Ever hear of Misery loves company? I honestly think that is him! And Palpatine isn't done yet. He had to take a lot of steps for such subjugation and he pulled off in episode 3.. which now has me really thinking about the dour but brilliant Mace windu seeing him for as scary as he really was!

    Anyway. thanks!

    It was definitely bad memories of the last time that I was on Coruscant, and the particular office I was being beckoned to, but I have to admit that even with the honor of the event, I just wasn't up to setting up the appointment.

    I was a little chagrined with myself, because trying to avoid uncomfortable situations had been something I had long learned not to do.

    It didn't matter however, I just couldn't face the issue at the moment. I threw the card back on the surface of the elegant desk, ordered up a meal and started to work on the documents I would need to bring with me to the registry offices.

    ~~~~
    I went early the next morning to Matin's offices. It would be in the afternoon for Noela, but that meant that the twins would be down for naps.
    I was also looking forward to seeing her even if it was just in holo form, even the few days we had been apart was too long when the children were so young.
    "Liam! It is good to see you. How was your flight in? How comfortable are your rooms? I am sorry we didn't have the security improvements made to your apartments here sooner, but given what happened last year, I wouldn't want you or your family there until they are in place." He was moving quickly to his office, and looked to me for an answer to the question.
    "My rooms are fine Matin." I sat smoothly in the comfortable repulsorchair in front of the desk. Matin slid behind, opening a channel to what I assumed would be my wife, and in moments her figure appeared in holo form.
    "Liam," Noela's hand came up as if she could touch mine.
    "My Noe," I smiled. "How are the children? They aren't wearing you out are they?"
    She laughed, "No more than usual, although the twins miss you most at night during story time. Apparently my talent for story telling is someone lacking compared to yours."
    It was true that I would put on quite a show of random voices and actions when I would tell a story in the evenings. It was a favorite activity, where we would enter a realm of brave knights and fair ladies, and bright funny children.
    Matin broke in, still smiling at us warmly, "I will give you two a few minutes later, but right now we have a few items to discuss."
    I nodded, "Yes I would like to know why you two have been so mysterious."
    "Well first things first Liam. I am going to schedule time with you so that we can go make sure your apartment here on Coruscant looks secure. I also want to come with you when you go to the offices ot verify your family paperwork."
    We set about getting those little details nailed down, "Families are also wanting to meet with you. They are feeling very nervous about the new policies and the even new ones being hammered out now. I tell them not to worry because I can't see how they could possibly pass, but perhaps if you were to take time to talk to them?"
    Noela and I looked at each other. We had been avoiding this for as long as we could, not wanting to give our son the idea that he was unique in a special way for us to be part of a network of families for support. We knew that couldn't last forever.
    She nodded her agreement with what she must have seen on my face, "Matin, this is not the first time you have asked, so I will come. I can't promise anything after, but I will go once."
    Matin looked thoughtful, "thank you. They will appreciate the gesture. Now Noela, do you want to tell your husband or shall I?"
    "Go right ahead Matin, I want to watch his face."
    He stood, and went to look out his window, at the passing traffic.
    "Liam, how long have I been your Lawyer?"
    "Since I could afford one and eat at the same time," I quipped. He chuckled for a minute. "Since I was very young. I came to you because you have a great reputation and an army of people to help dumb actors such as myself."
    "That might be true of other actors Liam, but it hasn't ever been the case with you." I started to speak, to respond when he held up a hand so he could continue."However you will admit that you have never had a firm handle on what your bottom line was. "
    I didn't know whether to feel sick or thrilled as they put forth the plans to buy interests in a couple of planets. I was still sure that this was some sort of elaborate joke they had hatched and the punch line was coming.
    Whoa. I wonder how they'll end up investing the money.
    "What is he being arrested for? I am his lawyer." Matin declared with force.
    "The order indicates he kidnapped a child."
    The nightmare was never going to end.
    Oh my gosh! Okay, my guess here is that Liam is being framed by the Sith, who actually kidnapped whoever it was. The other possiblity could be an "evil twin", but Qui-Gon is already dead and I doubt there is a third man in the galaxy that looks like him. :p :(
    Thanks for the PM!
    What...in the world?!?
    They are NOT arresting Liam... for kidnapping? Kidnapping what? He did no kidnapping! Gah! *throws arms up in the air* Why do they always have to pick on the ones I LIKE?!?!
    Anyway.
    This has a very... Schindler's List feel to it, and I wonder if you had that in your intentions. Liam has a great deal of wealth--well, so does Noela--and they are investing it in a wide variety of resources while the galaxy is going to pot. And we all know who they will be going after eventually. I hope that this wealth stays safe and sound, because I think that the Senoes may find it valuable once... the troubles begin. Even though it was really funny to think about what they were going to do with their wealth, I was nervous. You know who will want that wealth, and obviously he's going to try to get at it... along with the babies, and so forth.
    It is very frightening, but as always very enjoyable.
    Congratulations on your noms. =D= Much applause. =D=
    Princess_of_Naboo: Yes it will be interesting to see that money in play.
    Yes our Liam is in dire trouble. There is is just one very rotten person in charge of a bunch of other little rotten people and it makes for bad stuff.
    Thanks for reading!
    DarthIshtar: Yeah I did. But then your question is funny seeing that you have people terrified as to is on your hit list tomorrow. [face_laugh]
    Luna_Nightshade: Congratulations to you =D= on your nominations. I KNOW those ones are well deserved. However I think it is safe to say I do love my OC Liam and hope for the best for him.
    Actually it was months ago.. we had a Liam, that looked like the Liam of our world, and Ish and I batting stories back and forth that this was "bourned" (hehe .. that is a pun, as it is my maiden name!) so if you see some things that are a little familiar..it is because they more than likely are!
    Thanks for coming to read when I know how busy you are.
    I had to smile at this part. Liam and his...innocence about his wealth were so cute!
    But then the end of the chapter...whoa! :eek: I'm blaming Palpy for that, too.
    Hey Amidalachick-I am glad you found some time to read. I know it can be hard because I am going to have to set up some serious "I am reading and responding only!" time to myself! Yes Liam sort of naive about his money is a sweet thing-I agree.
    =D=
    Thanks to those that nommed and then helped qualify this fiction for anything, because there are so many wonderful ones out there you could have chosen instead! Hugs to all[:D]
    Now to the next part!
    ~~~~~

    I was placed immediately within a holding cell, none of my rights as a citizen of Coruscant respected or observed. I knew how this should really work, and since for the most part we were living in a time of peace, there was no reason I could see that I could be taken in such away and without the consultation of my legal team.

    I was allowed no contact with Matin after arrival at the Incarceration Center. We had been able to exchange only a few words at the time of the original arrest, and the only real thing I had been able to ask as a request from him in the immediate frenzy of the apprehension, was to not worry Noela needlessly, but after two days and the absolute close-lipped stance of the guards that brought me my food, I worried that everything had gotten worse.

    In the few moments I was given with the other prisoners in the large open room for a bit of exercise, I would desperately try to get any information about my case. There was nothing on the holonet. It didn't matter if it was morning, afternoon or evening there was no mention of one former actor, Liam Senoe, that was accussed of child kidnapping.

    The only thing that I knew was that another child was missing, and that somehow they had genetic material at the scene that matched mine. To make it far worse, this child's mother was in critical condition, so at least of the time of my arrest completely unable to tell anyone what had happened.

    That was all that I could surmise from the scant information in the arrest documents.

    In my solitude, I prayed that someone could help me soon.

    ~~~~~~
    It was finally late on the third day that the guards retrieved me from my cell, with a change into street clothing. Matin was in an office they escorted me to.
    Matin indicated for me to sit down, sitting at a table and pulling several datapads and notes from his case, "How have you been holding up Liam? I am sorry it has taken so long to get to you."
    "I am as good as could be expected for the circumstances, but that isn't a good thing. Why does there seem to be no news out there about this?"
    Matin raised his eyes from the datapad he was considering at the moment, "I don't know. There are several other questions, any of which should get you out of here, but why does there seem to be no formal charges having been entered? Why was I not allowed access to you and in light of the fact that you are being held against your will with no proper process? I have let it out with the judges that I have spoken with, and in word with Bail Antilles that if someone doesn't deal with the situation shortly, I personally will go to the press. Of course if that happens I will need to explain to Noela what is going on, and that lady is already losing patience with me, as she knows I am not forthcoming, and equally understands that likely means you are in some trouble."
    "Dear Noela, how I miss her and the children. I know if we can't get this resovled quickly they will have to know."
    He nodded thoughtfully. He was about to say something when we were interrupted by a guard, "Senoe we need you to come with us." His tone still brusque and impatient still sounded more respectful than it had in several days, I assumed because of the presence of Matin. "This was our original intention when we first retrieved you but the transport was not ready and Mr. Anis was here."
    "I am his legal council, where are you taking him? He will not go without me."
    "Well Legal Council, an important person has requested that we bring him. You are welcome to accompany us. That person is expecting you too
    We looked at each other confused. I had never heard of arrest procedures like any I had been going through. Neither had Matin apparently as I heard him mutter under his breath, "I swear if this is one more problem I am going to hire a strike team to get you out and ask the questions later."
    The really frightening thing about that is that the idea was actually beginning to sound good.
    Call in some Jedi favors...
    "Yes, the laws that govern the choices that parents that keep their force-sensitive children will have to abide."
    That... Someone please remove Palpatine! He's evil!
    Oh, the manipulative, scheming Palpatine! Somehow he managed to engineer this arrest of Liam just so he could speak with him and get him into this business agreement. Liam had no choice. And a clone? Had Palpatine chosen Liam for this future as soon as he got with someone that had formerly been suspected of being with Qui-Gon? Oh, the planning this had to have taken. Someone to run around and make it look like Liam was doing the Chancellor's dirty work! And then he wants to use the Senoe family as posterboys? Sure, get the rest of the Republic looking at them, and then WHAM! Get them framed for something really bad? Liam, this does not look good, at all, but I don't know how he could say no to Palpatine. And then of course there are new laws that let Palpatine have some control over even the Force-sensitive babies kept out of the Jedi Temple.
    Geesh. Things are getting soooo thick, my head's about to spin! I just want to kick Palpatine. He's so... eeew.
    Loved it as always, Noelie. Much =D= I can't wait to find out what Liam decides to do.
    Araxie: he is slimy and if Ian hadn't been so good at playing the part this wouldn't be so easy to write and fathom! I am still astounded by the sheer brilliance of creating a villian so eager for what he wants he patiently plans it and tests it in trial runs all along the way.
    Ish: I know. Isn't it the worst. It would be like a living nightmare!
    Amidalachick: I know. Liam isn't always quite sure why he has instincts one way or the other but for the most part he tries to be true to them. He doens't fully trust Palpatine, but for now he just charitably construes that emotion to be all the bad things over Maron.
    Luna_Nightshade: Yes he did, much like engineering the trade federation, getting to Count Dooku, even getting rid of Maul at just the right moment for the next apprentice to give him the thing he wants at the moment
    I think if Naboo was a dry fun for taking over the galaxy what other things wouldn't he try until he could get them right?
    Liam, looking just like Qui-Gon would be a great target, especially since he could keep official tabs on all the events leading up to their marriage and it wouldn't have looked out of place.
    Thanks for your patience!
    ~~~

    Chancellor Palpatine was calmly telling me why the new laws were a good thing, and something inside me snapped. Previous behaviors and motivations were no longer appropriate.

    I had enough. I had been a gentleman; I had tried to think my way out of situations to find that like some lab animal in a maze I was still being beckoned in directions I did not wish to go. Too many, including this Chancellor were busily usurping freedom of choice from my family, all the while telling me they were taking what truly belonged to me for my own good.

    With deliberation I stood, my arms crossing in front of my chest, ?No.? My voice was low, calm and deadly quiet.

    He reared back in surprise, for a moment barely containing the look of intimidation that flitted momentarily on his face.

    There was still a little part of me that felt guilty that I had some satisfaction at seeing that I had caused someone else a little of the discomfort that had been showered on me and mine over the months. He pursed his lips, his eyes were solemn, and he sank to his chair in every show of sympathy.

    ?No?? His tone was soft, and yet somehow I heard only menace.

    ?I am the father of Maron Senoe, and his mother and I are more than competent to raise our child, to direct his talents and learning so he will grow to be the moral and upstanding man we envision. We do not need the senate or your office telling us what to do!?

    ?I understand Liam, but surely you can see that most parents have not had your fortunate alliances. People are afraid.?

    ?There are no protections from fear Chancellor or they would outlaw speeders, but just playing along, who fears what exactly??

    ?That there will be rogue force users in the galaxy that will try to destroy our ways. Surely you can see why, because if you had the right person, even just two could take over the galaxy. There is strong feeling against the Jedi for that reason.?

    I couldn?t believe it. He was using the two sides of the logical saber to make his point. I started to laugh, and observed that Matin was sitting with his mouth gaping, my unexpected performance no doubt surprising him.

    ?Chancellor if the people are afraid of the Jedi, who have no other motivations than the good of the republic, then how are other formal and forced learning centers for non-Jedi force-sensitive going to calm their fears??

    ~~~
    I stalked out of the Chancellor?s office, with Matin barely hanging on to my heels, and I barked orders as we went. I could hear Matin panting as he attempted to record my instructions.
    ?Find out all you can about these laws, Matin. What schools are appropriate and how did they get on the list? I need to know why a private tutor like Ms Aidel is not enough or if there is something we can do to make her be enough. I have to talk to Noela and see how much she might have known this was happening. I can?t imagine her saying nothing about this if she knew. Find out what you can about the cloning. I want to know if who could have done such a thing. Gods Matin, how do I get over feeling like someone violated me?? I spat out the last words, fighting the fears that more of the same could happen.
    ?You don?t get over it Liam, you take action.? His words were quiet and forceful. ?And since we left the Chancellor I have gotten the idea you have a plan.?
    I stopped and turned to look at my friend just as we were reaching our transport, and felt a twinge of remorse. I softened the posture of my shoulders, and reached my hand to clasp his.
    ?I believe that for once I am the one with a ghost of a plan, but I will need both you and Noela to help me see if we
