ST C-3PO and R2-D2 in Episode VII

I hope R2 is in hiding with Luke. I like the idea of him puttering around and beeping to himself on a remote island.

 

I think R2 will be with Han and Leia. But they do have Threepio with them, so what would be the point of having two droids? Maybe he is with Luke.

 

the last rumor had both R2 and 3PO with Leia.

 

I quite like the idea of R2 keeping Luke company while he's doing .... whatever it is he's doing.

 

Did anyone else notice Anthony say in the French interview that 'JJ decided to make VII very much in the spirit of number VI'?

 

I've heard a couple rumors that the movie resembled ROTJ a lot. There was a rumor of a bunch of short aliens (played by small people) that help fight the storm troopers what were called 'rockers'. And MSW mentioned a speeder bike scene in a forest where aliens came out of the trees and attacked the speeder bikes.

Makes me think of your thread about the ring theory and how the ST will fit into the cycle. I really haven't had time to wrap my head around how that might work.

 

Yes, i was thinking the same thing. Well, if TPM =ROTJ, then the start of a new cycle will start with another ROTJ and possibly go for another 6 films....

There is a big difference between "in the spirit of" and actually mirroring themes though. I guess we will see a fairly light film overall though with a few big emotional moments, a la Luke's attempts to save his dad's soul. Those who are demanding a darker film like ESB will likely be disappointed again by the sounds of things.

 

Like ROTJ? I was assuming this movie would be similar to ANH.

There's something a little unsettling about Daniels' quote, but I'll try not to lose sleep over it...Perhaps he's referring to the intensity of the Luke-Vader-Emperor confrontation, rather than Ewoks in the forest? I love ROTJ, but I was hoping this series would be more of an ESB kind of affair, especially given evolving tastes in movie-going audiences toward the slightly darker...

 

I'm definitely fine with the RotJ connection if it's true. I was thinking JJ would try to imitate TESB, which isn't a good idea.

The first film of a Star Wars trilogy always starts off lighter, and things start going bad during the middle film. So I can see VIII being more like TESB, which would also keep the 'rhyming' theme going. I don't want SW to be turned into one of those forced, "gritty" reboots. Besides, mimicking TESB would be unnecessary fan service at this point. Lets wait for VIII.

Plus Rian Johnson will be much more suited to direct a "grittier" instalment than JJ. Just compare their films. Looper vs. Star Trek. No contest.

None of the rumors (true or made-up!) has mentioned the droids? I don't recall any scenes mentioned. Well, not in the recent email leaks. I wonder if BB-8 will be the main droid of episode 7?

 

I have a feeling he will be. But Threepio and Artoo will still play big roles, hopefully.

What did you think was gimmicky about them in the PT? Also, what was wrong with flying R2? I liked it.

 

Discussing why I didn't appreciate flying R2 is like discussing why I don't like brutal puppy death. So I'll bow out of this one in advance.
