ST C-3PO and R2-D2 in Episode VII

Hmm. What if there ends up being more than 9 episodes? Should they continue to be in the series?

If Kenny Baker (80) or Anthony Daniels (69) die while there still are more Star Wars movies to be made, whether it's the ST or beyond, should his character be retired out of respect, or should it be allowed to continue in some form? I understand that Kenny isn't needed to do R2, but still.

 

Kermit the Frog wasn't retired after Jim Henson died, so why not? I don't think it would be disrespectful. 3PO would be tricky though... not just his voice but also his body language and mannerisms (it's subtle, but doesn't seem right when it's off).

Yes, there is a lot of body language and mannerisms to learn, but a talented performer can do this. Lucasfilm already have a guy who plays Threepio whenever Daniels isn't available, and if I recall correctly Daniels told RFR that sometimes he thinks it is himself in the suit.

 

Oh I'm sure it can and will be done. Just wanted to give Daniels the credit he deserves.

Sure, it can be done. But I wonder how fans would react when we inevitably cross that bridge.

 

Fans can accept it or get left behind, I suppose.

 

I've always liked the idea that R2 is the true hero of everything. Almost as if HE'S the chosen one. He rescues everyone and has gotten them out of jams all the time.

They'd all be dead if it weren't for him.

I would venture to guess that 3PO and R2 will have a say in things at least one more time. For old times sake anyway.

 

I could go either way, but my gut tells me that as long as Luke and Leia are around, we will have at least cameos by R2 and 3PO. If Rey is indeed Han's daughter, then I'd like to see Chewie be a loyal protector of her and her friends throughout the ST, and then by the end of Episode 9 it'll probably be time to say goodbye to Chewie. If 10-12 are made, I'd be fine with Chewbacca not being present and a new alien sidekick being introduced.

 

Anyone curios where 3PO is? He's been absent in both trailers so far and as a premiere face of the franchise, feels a bit odd. Its obvious he and R2 are separated during the film. He must be with Leia, who we also may or may not have seen yet. Maybe we will get him in the full trailer...

Anothony's comments today made it seem as if this is C3PO's last movie.

I was really looking forward to seeing C-3PO. I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer...

DarthLightlyBruise, twenty years from now could you identify your current laptop or phone in a pile of other similar devices, especially if someone has changed the cover.

Anyway, yesterday at the panel the showed a behind the scenes photo of Abrams and his crew with Artoo in a desert area. I thought this might mean that Artoo will be on Jukka too.
