I am wearing a Roman senatorial tunica laticlavia as I type this. Whee.

I'd post a pic, but I have to leave for the airport now and that means ditching the tunica. Sad. :(

So, yeah, my personal EU-related experience with Amazon this morning...

I did a search for Recovery by Troy Denning and found a "currently unavailable" paperback edition and no Kindle edition.

W...T...F. Where are you hiding this, Amazon, I was pretty sure that the entire NJO series had Kindle editions. Don't make me lose my **** on one cup of coffee here, it isn't pretty. (Not that you'd care because you're the website with total monopoly on Kindle books but I digress...)

I did another search just in the Kindle store and found it, with "short story" and "Darth Maul" attached to it. LOL, well played, I had to read the summary and reviews to make sure it was the NJO book, and there was one review from an uber-pissed Maul fan.

Recovery was an eBook to begin with. :p

There's no Kindle version because Kindles didn't yet exist, but it is printed in the paperback of SBS (and possibly included in the Kindle version, but who knows).

Yeah, there were some reviews that said not to spend the two bucks on this and to just buy SBS. I got quite the education on that search; I had just been going by my app and Wook as far as what books to read next.

Recovery is different from the Ylesia one, right? I don't think I ever read Recovery.

I got rather seriously tired out by the NJO near the end of it -- I still don't think I've ever read FH 2 & 3, nor TFP.

Lucky you anakinfansince1983 - I bought Recovery for $2.99 on my Kindle for iPad app and then discovered it was included in SBS.

I went ahead and paid the $1.99 because I'm not ready to read SBS yet, I'm trying to go in order. But I am glad I knew that and didn't get blindsided because I would have been mad just on principle.

Recovery and Ylesia Sal Solo is great fun, the main reason I am still annoyed for Traviss doing away with him actually.

    8. Haven't played Crusader Kings II. Get on all of those things.

So I'm reading the fanmade Dark Empire novelization, The Test of Wills, which is by and large quite good. I just reached a passage, however, that I think GrandAdmiralJello would love. Lots of cool obscure EU references in it, too (so many Marvel references).

It's shortly after Leia has been shocked into unconsciousness by the Emperor. She wakes up in a kind of trophy room that's reminiscent of the palace of Alderaan.

And suddenly she realized that this hallway was not a chronicle of his rise to power or a gallery of traitors, or even friends. It was simply a trophy room, a gallery of those people who interested him. The common bond that these people shared was the fact that they had held the attention of the dark god-Emperor himself, that they were the people who had- for one reason or another- merited his notice, if not his respect. Yes, it was a trophy room, but it held only trophies from those people who had in some way posed some sort of challenge for him.

In that light, she felt vaguely insulted that there were no mementos from Mon Mothma or the Alliance.

    Ha!

Speaking of EU references, does anyone have any idea who a "curved lightsaber and a mirrored faceplate" would refer to?

Yeah, it's pretty great. He writes a very good Palpatine, and that story is one of his best -- though earlier -- works. I prefer the Silver Fox stories overall. The New Order in Power is pretty fantastic too -- sort of an in-universe Imperial Sourcebook update.

Is the mirrored faceplate thing in The Test of Wills? I don't know off hand, but I can ask him.

    The trophy room references...

    - Baroness Tagge and a yellowish-orange amphibian. A Marvel reference, I believe (if I'm remembering right).

    - Blood stained white jacket and an electronic eyepatch: Grand Admiral Teshik, I'd presume.

    - An amputated droid arm, later revealed to have belonged to Arden Lyn.

    - A curved lightsaber and a mirrored faceplate: ? I thought maybe Revan, but I don't recall his faceplate being reflective (plus I think this fic was written before KOTOR?). Perhaps one of the Mandalorians? The only ancient Mandalorian of any note in this story is Mandalore the Indomitable, though.

Also, a few pages later there's a Triclops reference, of all things. I don't know if I should celebrate that or be appalled.

Were the Silver Fox stories on that page you linked many, many pages ago?
