This sums up my thoughts on BBT quite well.

I'll go you one better, and say that I loved Doctor Who when US nerds despised the show - I couldn't even bring up the topic without people complaining about the low budget.

I'm actually genuinely impressed by Charles' dalek voice:

I hope they use it in the show at some point.

(I do kinda hate that there's a guy who seems to be bossing him around, though. WTH?)

Yeah, I remember being fairly annoyed by that -- guy was treating HRH like some sort of fascinating gimmick or something "ooh, now say this!" Charles should have said "be silent, putrescent peasant!"

I used to watch the Tom Baker episodes with my Dad when I was little and they aired it on Sci-Fi channel (The real one, not the abomination that is Sy-Fy. Thanks for killing all the best shows on classic Sci-Fi, Bonnie Hammer!)

So I finished the Malazan novels, barring the Esslemont books and the Kharkanas prequel.

Nice. How did you like the ending? I've heard mixed emotions on it.

There are a lot of things that I wish were addressed more, and some characters whom I wished were better utilized, but overall I enjoyed it, particularly the final epilogue. The battle on the First Shore in particular was fantastic.

I definitely need some time to mull over the series.

Yedan Derryg ranks up there with Ganner Rhysode and Glorfindel for heroic last stands. I really wish Icarium had been unleashed somehow. I get that one of the major themes of the series involves preventing insane powers from being unleashed- Icarium, Rud Elalle, Sinn- but still. Argh. And of course Shadowthrone and Cotillion end up coming out of this smelling like roses.

I would say the best books of the series are Memories of Ice and Reaper's Gale.

    But, "Dance, monkey! Dance!"

    Urgh.

I sincerely doubt that type of talk would help endear the British public to Charles, especially when they would much rather his son sit on the throne after Queen Elizabeth II. :p

Yup. Duron's been a part of me too long to have been apart from me so long.

No, no, no. Don't you get it?

It's my original icon, only modified.

    HUR HUR HUR HUR HUR.

Sigh. I slay me. And, yeah, I'll admit that I got used to the glowing eyes. So....

I think even Charles would rather have his son sit on the throne. ;)

If the Queen lives as long as her mother did, Charles will be about 80 before he has a chance to inherit the throne anyway.

Not that that would make much difference; 80 isn't what it once was.

Rather impressive to realize that in another 53 years, in 2066, it will be one thousand years since an illegitimate Norman Duke became King of England and even more impressive that, despite the constant power plays around the throne, especially in the Middle Ages, that William I's descendents have remained on the throne in all that time. The Holy Roman Empire couldn't even boast that before it fell in 1806. France would have reached that mark in 1987 if it had't been for the abolition of the monarchy and the interruptions of Capetian rule by Napaleon and his family as well as the French Revolution.

The Norman Conquest caused a language revolution as well since neither William, his son or grandson spoke English. The French language infiltrated English quite a bit during that time.

Thing just is, his alleged father was no were near his mother in the time frame he should have been conceived.
