    Bah. Heathens who don't support Jeff/Annie :p

Why is it that older games tend to be better than newer ones? Well, not necessarily in the graphics, but in gameplay. I say this after just having spent 6 hours on a new city in Sim City 4.

I wouldn't say that. It's easy to look back on the past and pick out the gems, assuming that those represent the norm of the time. That, however, is not the case at all; if a game is forgettable, it will be forgotten. I'd argue that there were so much more lousy games coming out several years ago than there are now.

Of course, it's undeniable that some series simply deteriorate. Sim City seems to be one of them.

Not really, as I could not stand it for ages either, but then somehow it clicked one day now I love it.

That Orientalist claptrap? pffft. I thought better of the author of the Diversity Manifesto, but it seems I was wrong. :p

Anyway, you don't want to step into this particular puddle without looking. There was a huge JCC thread I made on the subject and suffice it to say that Aladdin is thoroughly inferior.

We can also let the critical plaudits and awards speak for themselves.

I don't know - the Civ series seemed to peak with Civ 4.

Really? If enjoy both, but the change from squares to hex was huge IMO.

I did it! I finally did it!

    I ENDED THE TORTURE!

I replaced the battery in my smoke alarm and it stopped beeping.

Congrats! I feel your pain- my smoke alarm ignores burnt food, but goes off if too much steam from the shower escapes the bathroom (like when the cat opens the door)

Of interest to some: Marvel recently stopped supplying monthlies to B&N and BAM. Though DC & DHC still do, one can't help but think the writing is in the wall as far as non-LCBS distribution goes. Especially relevant if the horror of Marvel taking the rights from DHC comes to pass.

So, those who still get their issues from B&N and such may want to start exploring their alternatives.

Seeing as you basically lost me at "Orientalist", I'm happy to allow you to continue being wrong. In the meantime, WHEN THE **** DID THIS HAPPEN:

Trapped in a hotel room with someone watching The Big Bang Theory. OH GOD THE HORROR!

Laugh tracks are the spawn of Satan. But I guess there's a reason Jesus created headphones.

    It could be worse.

It could be a beeping smoke alarm.

Call room service. Ask them to bring you a steak knife. Close the blinds.

How the live action films not be canon? I had Jack and Goofy side by side with me in Kingdom Hearts? :p

Are you saying that you're not familiar with Edward Said's work, or that you're not seeing how Aladdin can be construed as Orientalist? Either way, I'm shaking my head in disbelief.

The first one, but you're right--clearly the movie that's 100% white people is superior.

Gee, let's see: rural 17th to 18th century France filled with white people versus offensive caricature of the Middle East. Yeah, let's think about that one for a while.

It doesn't count as being inclusive when you're making mock or using stereotypes, especially ones that are thoroughly lazy and engrained to boot.

The downside to having your studio in your living room?

Your living room ends up smelling like paint.

After having a break (it's hard to watch GOT when the house is full of kids) I return to Westeros, where... well, the link address tells everything. Season 3, episode 4.

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year and a splendid 2014.

My resolution? Pay more attention to the forum, again. I haven't been AWAY away... but I haven't been around as much as I should have been. :p

It's been a, shall we say, "tempestuous" few months in UliRL. Wouldn't trade 'em in for anything, though. :)
