Looks like Saruman's hatching out some new Orcs.

Speaking of which, the crowd at the ODI in Wellington is being recorded (audio) for use in the next LOTR movie(s) in the battle scenes!

we are using carry-over rules for all One-Day Internationals played in New Zealand, so there will be no over reductions or Duckworth/Lewis considerations until tomorrow
we will try to get in as many overs as possible today, then come back tomorrow to finish it off - however if play starts on or before 3pm today, we will be able to use an extra hour tonight to sneak in a full 50-over match

Match State: Delay - Start of play delayed due to ground conditions

it's very overcast here, though considerably brighter than it was this morning, with the Port Hills viewable but for a fine mist/low
cloud hovering about all the covers bar one thin strip over the playing wicket itself
remain as the clean-up job is well underway

it's now 1:55pm local time (0055 GMT) and we're definitely not going to get a start on time as there's been no toss, the mower has been around the outfield and there's still a bit of excess spray coming up behind it the super-sopper is now out and doing its best to try and extract it, and the hessian cover on the pitch has just been removed to expose what looks a fairly greenish wicket at first glance there haven't been any serious warm-ups as such yet, just a few players hanging around just inside the boundary tossing the odd ball about the pitch and 30 metre circle markings have been done, there is keen anticipation for the start of this series from the hopeful ground staff clearly!

going by progress thus far, it would be expected a start is likely no sooner than 3pm local time (0200 GMT) if the weather holds as-is, but that's completely unofficial
neither team has been released officially yet, but it's at least expected that Brendon McCullum will be 12th man for New Zealand,
considering the balance of the side, while the likely five to be left out for England are Hoggard, Shah, Collingwood, Snape and the injured Hollioake

Weather look really promising now but looks like they will have to finish the game tomorrow if they don't get started soon

    Heres the latest:

LATE FINISH IN STORE IN CHRISTCHURCH
Latest thinking in Christchurch is that the first One-Day International in the National Bank Series between New Zealand and England will start at 4.15pm.
The game will be a 42-over match finishing at 11.15pm local time. The 40-minute dinner break will be taken at 7.12pm.

There has been no rain since before mid-day but drying was still being done by ground staff.

Both teams are now out on the ground going through their warm-up routines.

Temperatures are cool and it is overcast. It could be very cool by the scheduled finish time.

The umpires today are: Evan Watkin and Tony Hill with Dave Quested (third umpire). The match referee is Denis Lindsay (South Africa).

The teams are: New Zealand: Stephen Fleming (captain), Nathan Astle, Chris Nevin, Craig McMillan, Chris Cairns, Lou Vincent, Chris Harris, Andre Adams, Daniel Vettori, Ian Butler, Daryl Tuffey. Brendon McCullum

England: Nasser Hussain (captain), Marcus Trescothick, Nick Knight, Graham Thorpe, Craig White, Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood, Ashley Giles, James Foster, Andrew Caddick, Darren Gough.

Whats the bet that England win on Saturday so it comes down to the last game!!

It seems to be about the money more then the actual game these days. :(
