Although the mods support this cause and think it is a great idea for writers to participate in, we have to keep by the general policy at TFN against off-site advertisements. If any of you would like to participate, please contact LLL by PM. Thanks.

Do you write short fiction? Can you write a short general-interest article about a topic like crafts, pets, gardening, automotive tips, or a short humorous piece? Then you could be featured in a new online project to promote brain cancer awareness.

Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the deadliest cancers known, and the most common adult brain tumor. Median life expectancy from time of diagnosis is about a year. Yet, few people know anything about it, because only about 22,000 people in the US are diagnosed with it each year. Sadly, people who are newly diagnosed don't have much time to consider their options because it is such a fast-growing cancer. They often miss out on cutting edge clinical trials because they find out about them too late. Worse, there aren't as many of those cutting edge trials as there might be, due to a lack of funding. More common cancers like breast cancer and prostate cancer get most of the research dollars in this country.

GBM4cure wants to change that. If you go here: here you will see the project. It's a "mini-mag" because it will only feature one article twice a week. The article will be something informative or fun to read or look at, something you might glance at for 10 minutes while you have your coffee in the morning. The articles will be "Truffles." Like, "Tuesday's Truffle is...Short Fiction", for example. A way for us to offer something free to people, and then give them the message: Brain cancer awareness. We are going to promote it with an ad on Facebook. For those not writing original fiction: We will consider fan fiction, on a *very* limited basis, if we get the right kind of submission. Keep it not much over six pages if you can, and try to use characters and situations familiar to those who have only seen the SW films and who aren't huge fans. People who loved it when they were kids and have forgotten about it. What might those folks most like reading? (Or, what would they most like to share with their kids, perhaps?)

This project will not be a "go" until we can get at least 30 good pieces submitted. (Getting behind on the posting schedule isn't going to do much to promote brain cancer awareness.) What we need is something entertaining, informative, and (generally) one to three pages long. If it's longer and it's good, we can accommodate it. If you need help editing, we can do that. Also welcome: Art. If you do any arts, crafts, photos, drawing, stained glass?send us your pics; a ?Truffle? can also be an image gallery.

This is a way to say, "Here's something you'll get some value out of, for you. Thanks for reading, and here's who we are, and here's why we're offering this. Here's what you who don't have brain cancer should know about it, and here's why it IS relevant to you." Groups like ours already reach people with brain cancer; we want to spread awareness to people without brain cancer.

Contributors who know someone with brain cancer, or someone who died from it, can choose to submit a piece in honor or in memory of that person. If we use your work, we will post a short author or artist bio and link to your website, Amazon page, or ebook store.

To submit work, or for more information, please email Linda Lyons-Bailey at UPSTARTLL8@msn.com. Important: Be sure to make the subject line "SUBMISSION" and type it in ALL CAPS. Sometimes Hotmail may pitch it anyway; if you don't hear back within a week, email again. Prose submissions may be attached as a Word or a PDF document. Please don't send zip files...we can't open them. For photos, send about 14 at a time.

Thank you for helping get the word out
