Can you ever have too much of a good thing?

Generally, too much of anything gets either to be boring, tiresome, or is usually taken for granted. A balance of having good things and having a break from things is generally a good idea.

Of course, I'm not referring to the necessities of life (like money to pay the bills, etc.)...

 

It's not the great things get boring; I think I could listen to Bob Dylan every day for the rest of my life and not get tired of him.

But when do you get the other good things? When, for instance, if you're listening to Bob Dylan all day every day, do you listen to the Beatles?

I look at it like this; you can have to much of a good thing for the simple reason that while you're focusing on that good thing, you're letting some other good thing slide and not getting any of it at all.

Balance. That one word is the meaning of life. I'm serious. Balance.

 

It depends on what it is.

 

I agree. You can never have too much health, too much money, or too much happiness. But there are some things you CAN have/do too much of.

 

Being a Libra, I'm all about balance.

A radio station that switched to a Classic Rock format started their first day by playing "Staiway To Heaven" for 24 hours straight as a gimmick. That's too much of a good (great) thing.

 

It really depends, I love a beer sometimes, but wouldnt want to drink too much of it for example

I'm with the "sometimes" crowd. Determining what the topic was would tell how much "too much" was IMHO.

I was leaning towards the sometimes crowd, but then I realised the question. Can you? Why yes, yes you can. You can have too much of a bad thing, too.

Good + good cannot = bad

For there to be "too much of a good thing," there has to be something inherently bad to that "good" thing.

 

But does that not mean you are thinking of a "perfect" thing rather than simply a "good" thing? Good things can easily have bad inside of them.

I guess I'm a lover of balance. Most things would get boring if you have too much of them (excluding necessities).
