    Sape's saying he used the edit message option to look directly at the coding entered, so yes. ;) I do that occasionally when I want to see how something was coded or when I'm too lazy to re-markup something and want to copy and paste some codings straight out of another person's post.

    Sometimes it makes me squirm because I'm not sure if using mod powers for that purpose counts as a mild abuse of power or not. It's on par with a mod looking up a sock's identity not because the sock's misbehaving, but because the mod's merely interested in noting whose it is. I dislike using powers for any reasons that are even vaguely personal or novelty-related. A lot of people seem to think I'm too strict in my definition of abuse, though.

    *looks at thread title again* Anyway, I guess that's not what this topic is about. [face_blush] The bottom line with users being able to enter HTML or anything complicated like transparent text is it's not allowed because some people might wreak havoc with it. Do you remember when people discovered something they could post that caused an alert window to pop up whenever the thread was loaded? That was abused like crazy! 3/4 of JCC threads ended up having an alert window. Now imagine if there were hundreds of such possibilities. That's what would happen if HTML were available to everyone.

    Also, as Hawk said, we don't know why managers have it. We didn't ask for it.

    HTML is enabled in posts made by managers and admins, so when he typed &.nbsp, it was read as HTML and converted to a non-breaking space.

    Technically, it's not HTML, it's a special character. But the same rules apply. The system interprets it differently depending on who posts it.

    Here, let me post the identical message body under two names of mine and you'll see what I mean.

    That's not quite completely true. No, I did not use HTML. But I did use the & nbsp (I'd put it together but it would turn into a space ), and it works for me for the same reason that HTML works for me.

     &nbsp rrr...

    Well,the thing is basicly,only Mods can use it.When DLM posted under her normal (mod) user name,the &nbsp Didn't show up,because it went through.But,under her non-mod user name,it showed up because normal users can't use it. :)

    When a mod steps down and is demoted to VIP, do all their posts with HTML still show up that way, or does it switch back?

    I think it switches back.
    EDIT: I think I remember a html-post by our last RSA that turned into a lot of code after she was demoted

    Man, that sinks, you could have the nicest post in HTML, but after you loose your Manager abilities, you just have an ugly post with a whole lot of coding! 8-}

    That's what'll happen to the YJCC forum index when jedi-mind-trick retires. :(
