The beach was Juno, and the earlier, failed attempt was Dieppe.

Manitoba... this is a shot in the dark, but uh... the Golden Boy?

Wrong. When it first joined, Manitoba wasn't even a tenth of the size it is today. Because it was so small, they called it the postage stamp province.

Ah. Yeah, I mentioned that earlier about how it was only the area around the Red River settlement.

Next question: Who is our Deputy Prime Minister?

Next question: Which island is off the coast of British Columbia? Prince Edward Island, or the Queen Charlotte Islands?

(expecting SPUZZUM to answer this one)

    The Queen Charlottes.

    Not hard.

I saw a guy on Jeopardy once who said PEI [face_laugh]

I know. I saw your bio. That's why I asked the question:

Next question: True or False: PEI contributes absolutely nothing to Canada. ;)

    Kidding!

OK, here's one for real: Who is our Defence Minister?

    Arthur Eggleton

    Ok next question...how about a P.E.I. question,

_______ ________ is Canada's most valuable commercial seaweed and is harvested off the cost of Prince Edward Island.
    Fill in the two blanks!

    Wrong.

Try again. (Again, don't dispute this please. I was a Cadet when he resigned, and I personally declared my allegiance to his sucessor)

It's interesting. Everyone knows Art Eggleton, but nobody seems to know who the current Defence Minister is. That's why I asked the question. It's a bit of a trick question.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone else think "Minister of Defence" sounds better than "Secretary of Defence"? When I think "Defence Minister", I get this image of a really powerful, influential guy. When I think "Secretary of Defence", I think of a woman sitting behind a desk, filling out paperwork. Certainly not an image of Rumsfeld.

I don't know then, you tell me. I like the sound of Secretary of Defense.

Don't dispute me on this, be careful what you say. You didn't say it exactly but this comment,... "Secretary of Defence", I think of a woman sitting behind a desk, filling out paperwork. That could be considered offensive and stereotypical. Please refrain from using comments like that. There are probably secretaries male or female that might take offense to that! Thanks! :)

_______ ________ is Canada's most valuable commercial seaweed and is harvested off the cost of Prince Edward Island.

That's my whole point, Lady_Lucas. Stereotypes. The stereotypes that you think of when you hear those words. Minister has a different stereotype than Secretary.

The Minister is The Honourable John McCallum.

SPUZZUM can answer the PEI question.

That one's tricky, because NB and NS are so close... I'm going to go with NS.

Frankly, that's as easy at 1+1. Thanks for the compliment though.

    Your welcome!

The Canadian Shield is a big horsheshoe-shaped region. It curves around the Hudson Bay from the Artic Coast of the NW terr. to the Coast of Labrador! That's huge!!!!

Ok, The state of Michigan is known to have 5 Great Lakes. 4 of those lakes touch Canada and 1 does not. Can you tell me the 4 that do and the one lake that doesn't touch Canada?

The state of Michigan is known to have 5 Great Lakes.

    News to me.

    1. The border runs down the middle of 4 of the lakes. They are not Michigan's lakes. They are shared lakes.
    2. Only four of the lakes touch Michigan. Superior, Huron, and Erie are shared between America and Canada, and border Michigan. Lake Ontario is shared between America and Canada and borders New York. The only lake that is entirely in American hands is Like Michigan.

Deifenbaker is very close. Actually Lester Pearson was the PM in 1966, but
Deifenbaker was right before him! :)
