I went looking for a plugin or something to make creating 3d forests easier.

Found this site but for $395.00 that is out of my price range.

Does anyone here know of a free plugin that does trees?

I am planning a trip to the Redwood forest this October so I am going to shoot some live footage but I want to add some 3d trees in the mix where needed.

3ds max 4 plugins needed if you know of any.
And yes, I just spent the morning on google and just ended up going in circles.

i'm curious since i'm still learning max, couldn't you add a few different tree textures to multiple planes and use either the scatter or array feature?

there is a tutorial on making trees from scratch that is very much like you said, but what I am after is something similiar to the plugin I linked to above. It allows for some realistic wind movement. Swaying and leaf rustling etc.
also with a click of a button it will produce a forest. Cloning the same tree just wouldn't do it for me. I want to generate at least 5 different types with at least 5 different sizes. Each acting individulally to its enviroment. Kinda hard to explain. Just look outside at some trees and you'll see. :)
