    Keeping in mind the Rocketeer and Sky Captain, apply those to a Captain America film and you have a winner. Get the guy who played Two Face in The Dark Knight to be Cap.

    If the director can summon back the good stuff he did in 'The Rocketeer' then Cap America should be enjoyable. Oh, as for casting....the Captain in Firefly/Serenity maybe, or is he too old?

    BTW, is Cap America's vilalin going to be the Red Skull guy thing, or will they save that for "The Avengers"?

    Oh, as for costume...just darken the colours and make it amour-ish maybe. And the shiled flying...meh, they're gonna do it CGI, it won't look too bad. It'll break every law of physics yes, but it won't look bad, not with today's CGI.

    Its hard to say exactly what is happening with any certainty given that I don't recall them even having a script. But from what I understand about the direction they are taking, Captain America will lead almost directly into The Avengers (fortunate as they are being released mere months apart...assuming one doesn't get bumped), where they wake him up in the modern era. Thus its a pretty safe assumption that his freezing will take place at or near the end of the Captain America Film.

    I am not sure what the travesty of making a WW2 era Cap film since that is his origin and sets the very foundation of who he is. Besides how many superhero period piece films are there?

    And from what I recall, while it is never explicitly stated that Abomination was the result of an overdose from the Super Soldier Serum formula that created Steve Rogers (or a bastardized version of said formula more likely), I thought that the dropped hints made it clear that it was intended to be a reference to Captain America (just like Cap's Shield in Iron Man).

    That aside this is probably the Marvel project I have been anticipating most after Spider-Man and X-Men. So the triple whammy of Captain America, Spider-Man 4 and The Avengers all within two months (I think) of each other has me pretty excited.

    He seems a little old for a guy who is supposed to be prime enlisting age. :p He certainly has the look, the acting chops and I think he could be inspiring. But his age seems iffy to me.

    The WW2 & super soldier serum references in Incredible Hulk were definitely Captain America setups. The british soldier during the campus fight was essentially a preview of Cap in action. They've even stated that the references to Stark's father in WW2 are setups for the Cap movie. Also, the Abomination was created when it merged with the super soldier serum knock-off and the Hulk blood "Mr Blue" gave him. The extreme-easter egg of Cap in the alternate antarctic opening on the DVD pretty much seals the deal.

    I'm optimistic about Cap's shield's throwing- if we take the shield's cameo in Iron Man at face value, then the shield is some kind of device being built by Stark,not just a solid shield, which could explain it's flight capabilities.

    Anyways, I think it's a good choice- his work on Indy and Rocketeer sounds about right for this movie. Also, don't hold JP3 against him- they were literally writing that movie on set, so it's not entirely his fault about how that movie turned out.

    Also, for some nice symmetry: Jon's last movie that he directed before Iron Man was Zathura, which was a semi-sequel to Jumanji, dorected by Joe. Now Joe will be directing Captain America, which is a semu-sequel/prequel to Jon's Iron Man. :)

    What's with all the hate on JP3? Sure, it was asub-par movie, but it was the third Jurassic Park movie. What did you expect?there really wasn't much of anything bad about thatmovie that didn't just come from it being an unnecessary threequel. Other than that, it was pretty much just fun.

    There was plenty they could have done with JP3- especially with TLW movie ignoring 90% of TLW book, there was lots of material they could have drawn from beyond the pteradons and raft sequences from the first book. Plus it had the silliest ending with the military popping out of nowhere, bombastic music blazing. There was no reason for JP3 to be so much worse than TLW.

    It had some good moments but the lack of a script really hurt them. Hopefully JP4 won't make the same mistake.

    The guy I picture to play the Steve Rogers/Captain America is Ryan McPartlin.

    Captian Awesome from the TV show Chuck. Dude fits the profile.

    I imagine the Cap. uniform colors will be toned down for the movie, with dark blues and reds, and look more like the Ultimate Cap instead of the traditional one.

    EDIT

    Wonder if they would go something along this line (without the Skull)
    [image=http://thepunisher.com/past_news/march_2007/punishercap_full.jpg]

    For the Avengers film, and with Tony Stark, I imagine Cap would look like the Bucky Barnes current version of Captain America:

    It occurs to me that Cap's costume is as iconic as Spider-Man or Superman, so I can't say I am a fan of deviating greatly.

    Can someone explain what the deal is with the scales on Cap's shirt? They make him seem related to Aquaman.
    Or Spider-Man's one-time armpit webbing?

    Also I want to reiterate that I think it would be really lame to freeze Cap at the end of his first movie. Let this movie start off a WWII-era Cap franchise that is open-ended so it can be revisited with later films. I just think it short-shrifts Cap to try encapsulating his entire WWII career in one movie.

    AND I hope they resist the urge to follow in the footsteps of Saving Private Ryan (and every other WWII-related movie/game since that copied Saving Private Ryan) and remove 60% of the color from the images. The whole POINT of Cap was to make WWII a less dark and dreary experience.

    I'm assuming they were meant to evoke feathers like an eagle or something but really they're just there to give his costume texture so it doesn't just look like blue spandex. Kinda like the Spider-Man costume in the movies.

    It also makes it seem slightly armored/protective.

    It's in the works, but has been delayed a couple times (it was originally slated as a 2005, then 2008, movie) due to script revisions.

    I've always assumed the scales were some sort of chainmail body armor, maybe something leftover from the WW2 era.

    I believe its supposed to be, as stated, some kind of chainmail-esque armour.

    Its one of the reasons I lean more towards the Ultimate Captain America costume.

    Oh and IIRC the Spider-Man under arm webbing was meant to be a device that helps Spidey soar a little longer while web slinging and roof jumping. It doesn't really make sense so they eventually did away with it, but it was design with a purpose I suppose.

    Sure, and they managed to tone down Spidey's costume for the movie without altering it much at all. The Cap suit should be easier to make movie friendly than Spider-Man's, I should think.

    Well the Spider-Man changes were a matter of trying to give the costume some dimension and deal with the issues like how would Spider-Man see well through white cloth (give him highly reflective lenses). But the design for the most part remained the same.

    I would prefer they deviate more in the spirit of this:
    [image=http://captain-america.us/articles/captain_america.jpg]
    rather than this:
    [image=http://thepunisher.com/past_news/march_2007/punishercap_full.jpg]
    or even this:
    [image=http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/wp-content/2007/10/CaptainAmericaAlexRossSketch3.jpg]

    The change of character (Bucky, Punisher) makes the costume change acceptable, but the Steve Rogers costume is Iconic IMO. Ultimate makes changes in the right places IMO but still keeps a somewhat faithful motif.

    What I fear is the mindset that approved this design for the Burton Superman Movie:

    This is WWII Captain America. Give him the shield that Tony Stark's father designs, give him the super soldier serum, and point him at the bad guy.
