At the time I posted, I was under the impression that this was a fan appreciation thread. I was unaware anyone had died. I probably would've avoided the thread altogether.

Careless Whisper=greatest sax playing for a pop song of the 80s. A good song elevated to a great one because of that.

So you don't read threads before posting in them? I should have realised this years ago.

I only read the first few. Which, mostly, were a bunch of disconnected comment that were hard to make any sense of at all. It was almost approaching the "Post pictures of Paul Giamatti as a bird/piece of lettuce" era of threads.

Only the first three? Because fourth was

And also none of them would indicate it's an AD thread.

    Yes.

What do you guys want me to say? I wouldn't have made that sort of joke if this is where you guys wanted to do serious mourning. What came before is irrelevant insofar as I'm saying I wouldn't have done it in either case anyway.

You can't can't deal with it when a thread isn't about you, can you?

**** you, I leave the wrestling thread alone!

Any article with a quote from The S*n should be treated with absolute contempt.

Wow. That is . . . interesting. It didn't really hold up for me with a re-listen to the song. Clearly this guy has some sort of genuinely spiritual connection to the song that I just don't have. I mean, even looking outside of the creepy elements of the song, it still just feels like a middling song to me. From where I sit, it's clearly straining really, really hard to have the transcendence that guy found in it, but it just feels really forced and falls far short. The fact that anyone could care as much as that guy clearly cares about this song is genuinely mind-blowing to me. I know what it's like to have that kind of connection to a song; I just would never have imagined anyone could have it to Father Figure. To make some kind of a connection . . . hmm . . . writing a piece that long and that passionate about Father Figure, saying he could talk for hours about Father Figure . . . that's like saying you could talk for hours about, hmm, what's a good analogue . . . Don't You Forget About Me. Serviceable song; briefly compelling in a cheesy, not at all genuinely transcendent way; average. When I'm flipping channels looking for something I know . . . I'll still keep going when I hit Father Figure; I can probably something I know and like a lot better.
