ST Carrie Fisher (Leia) in Episode VII (Sad News posted on Page 269)

It is not Carrie' voice, I'm almost sure.

 

I agree with ElizaD. I was thinking it was her for a split second, but with my best and most expensive set of earphones, I'm going to say no. The "... and hope" does sound like her, but the "Now more than ever." is what really doesn't sound like her alto. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

 

She has a particular voice now. And it's not sweet (I don't know how to explain it)
This is not her voice, it can't be.

 

If it's not Fisher, they did a great job in getting a perfect video game voice. The timbre, the correct amount of raspiness.

A did that is Carrie, and it's from the film, kudos... No matter how it was done.

 

Carrie can easily slip back into how Leia's originally talks.

She did this by re-doing an old scene with Warwick at Celebration 2013 I believe.

 

I was there! She totally had no problem doing it.

I used to do a little face and voice-reading for a living (I never forget faces or voices). And I'm about 97% sure that's Carrie. Not only that, it's the line you don't think sounds like her that convince me it is her. This is Carrie. Or a really brilliant impersonator.

 

No ****. Thirty years have passed. She grew old. Plus she did stuff between the movies. She got back in shape wonderfully but she can't undamage her lungs or liver. There is no workaround for that.

 

Well, I think more importantly, that voice is supposed to belong to Leia. And if Fisher did do it, which I think she did, it's been enhanced, run through filters, or whatever other technology the kids are using these days.

And like the posters and that children's book, they are making Leia look like Leia (and sound). They aren't taking a fifty something year old woman and putting a caftan on her and putting her behind a desk... Which was my biggest fear. So far, the character is being handled really well.

 

I'd actually noticed that Leia, who is supposed to be a few years younger than Carrie is, looks a bit older than Carrie does IRL, but it makes sense that Leia would be less concerned with makeup, etc than an actress would be.

 

I agree that it's Carrie. We'll see I guess.

 

I've always contended that Leia wasn't going to be saddled with some blink-and-you'll-miss-her cameo that so many others insisted (even hoped?) she would, yet even I'm surprised how much they've focused on her in marketing of late.

In the center section of the movie poster? Her own character poster, right along with the known leads? A digital billboard of her own in Time Square? I did not dare hope any of that would happen, from a marketing standpoint.

For a long while now I've thought Leia came off as older, more sophisticated and mature, than Carrie seems to, at least her public persona. I remember at some point learning Carrie was still a teenager while filming A New Hope and being shocked at that. I am still sometimes surprised that Carrie was only 25 during much of the filming of ROTJ.

I haven't done voice-overs. I've just met her several times in person over the last several years. I'm sticking to my blasters on this, but I whole-hearthedly agree with Scruffy nerf, the most important thing is that it sounds like Leia. Very good point indeed!
