Locked.

Halon was knelt by the compartment on the ship's floor, considering the best way to get it open. Using the tools from the Wake's repair kit was certainly a possibility but Solass could probably do it with less than half the fuss due to his particular skill set.

But where was Ryn? The agent's continued absence had now become a growing source of concern...

Shaking his mind of some unpleasant thoughts, the Ubese rose again and found the repair kit, examining it for something useful like a fusioncutter.

Seeing no effect for his efforts and grasping the immensity of the situation he decided it was better to turn tail and live to tell one then to try and fight. Especially when the obstacle was that thick headed.

Turning he began swimming back to the boat at the surface, leaving their target to continue on toward the creature unimpeded.

"Well, Mirana," he answered back, "perhaps you will find out more if you enter the tournament on the Empress. Do not expect us to give away any secrets, though." He smiled at her. "We do want to keep the upper hand."

He saw Boz's look and turned to his colleagues. "Speaking of which, shall we head back and sign up?"

Markus shrugged.

"I do not see why not." Certainly there was nothing much on the planet that interested him, and staying would only mean that they'd probably end up spending more money. Besides, the tournament could prove a useful angle of enquiry, if everyone on the Empress was really so dishonest as Mirana seemed to believe.

He turned to Boz, still in the guise of reluctant aide.

"Unless Mister Tyler has anything else he wishes to peruse?"

Boz nodded.
"Yes, heading back now should be besy. The only thing here that's of any real appeal is the company. It's been most entertaining playing against you again Mirana I hope we can meet on a similar "battlefield" soon enough. Although you will have to forgive me for not wishing you luck, I need all I can hold onto for myself."
He gave a last winning smile and a small bow before turning to leave.
When he and the others were a fair distance from the woman and the others who they had been playing against, Boz glanced to his companions.
"Well that was interesting."

"That certainly was," Stent cooly replied. "My ridiculous winning streak and a curious new friend. I did not get the sense that we should be concerned about her, though; at least for now."

He turned and looked at his colleagues. "I am being serious about signing up for the tournament, but we need to decide how many of us can we afford to sign up, and who." A smile cracked the zeltron's face. "I have confidence in my new-found abilities."

"Well, Mirana, perhaps you will find out more if you enter the tournament on the Empress. Do not expect us to give away any secrets, though. We do want to keep the upper hand."

"You know, gentlemen, many would present their most believable excuses first instead of waiting until after all other possibilities have been exhausted."

"I don't believe that you'll have a problem. Beings of your skill make their own luck just as much as they rely on it. Farewell gentlemen, I'll see you at Cloud City, if not sooner."

One ride to the spaceport, shuttle to the Empress and walk later, and the agents were back at their suite. From there, it was easy enough to electronically pay the twenty thousand credits required for a seat in the tournament for both Markus and Stent. After winning twenty-two thousand credits from Mirana and the other guests, they were still ahead of the game.

With that taken care of, what would their next move be? Having reunited with the Trebond-Vendus, they still were missing Halon and Ryn, who had gone off in search of Salek Zaron. While they waited to see what results those two would turn up, surely there was at least someone aboard the vessel who could provide more information.

OOGM: Rilwen, I know you're out there, so this is your chance to get back with the group.

Also, if you're reading this and not playing, or if you're playing and know someone else who might be good, feel free to drop me a note.

There are pretty much three possible ways of getting involved
-Non-MI5 agent who has a spot aboard the ship
-MI5 agent who doesn't have a spot aboard the ship, but goes from planet to planet aboard his or her own ship (not really recommended unless you like not posting for extended periods of time)
-MI5 droid who is brought aboard the ship, since droids count as luggage rather than passengers.

As Halon poked through the toolkit, he discovered that there was indeed a fusion cutter, along with a laser welder, vibrocutters, a hydrospanner, a power calibrator, a power prybar, a sonic welder and welding goggles. With a few minutes work, he should be able to cut through the hatch, provided whatever that whatever was within it wasn't explosive, corrosive or otherwise hazardous.

Faced with a ten meter sea creature that could outswim and outfight him, whose hide seemed barely affected by blasters, Ryn chose the sensible option and turned back, not watching as the body of Salek Zaron disappeared into the creature's enormous jaws, leaving only a crimson cloud behind as the beast moved away, sated. Though injured, at least he was still alive, and able to haul himself back aboard Zaron's yacht. With no vessels other than their own within a few kilometers, they were unlikely to be disturbed.

OOGM: In my defense...

As he hauled himself back up onto the deck he removed the rebreather and took a few deep, painful lungfulls of fresh air. Before he scrambled further up and completely onto the deck incase the creature changed it's mind.

Flopping down he rolled onto his back, staring at the blue sky as he picked up the short range comm and to talk with Halon, "Idiot. Pain in my side partner! Get out here and patch me up, and the next time you even think about bleeding into the water just...just don't."

He was frustrated, exasperated, and abit cranky. As a possible inroad had just been devoured right before his eyes, maybe in a minute gratitude and luck would work their way in but for now...for now he was tired.

"Gods, what happened?"

Halon dropped the tools from the repair kit he'd been holding as Ryn suddenly surfaced, quickly exchanging them for relevant items from the medkit. The other agent looked like a mess. And with everything he'd just been hit with, he could certainly relate.

He began to assist the Balosar, noting the continued absence of Zaron.

"Terminated?" Halon asked, getting to work. He hated the thought of their only lead dead before they even had the chance to interrogate him...

Sweet, suite plotting...

Ruana sat with the others, looking around briskly. She'd been keeping out of sight, watching things from a greater distance for the sake of caution. It really wasn't done to gather everybody in close constantly, after all, and it had seemed a good idea during the past little while for her to avoid participating directly on the same level.

"So. Our next move. Any ideas?" She met each of their eyes in turn, ending by looking at Markus, who though rather caustic, was talented, and likely to have some sort of clue what to do next. Truth be told, she secretly quite enjoyed his scathing comments about the other agents. Even the ones about herself were tolerable, since they provided clues as to what she needed to be fixing.

Unfortunately for Halon, the thing that they had found aboard the Crystal Wake was a medpac, not a medical kit. A small set of emergency medical supplies for first aid treatment, its limited contents had been all but used up in the process of treating Halon's own injuries. He bandaged Ryn's side, and passed him a few painkillers, but it wasn't enough for any meaningful treatment. They'd have to find some other method.

OOGM: I thought that I had made it clear, but my wording was a bit vague, so I apologize. For future reference, medpacs are one-shot items that are used to treat one person and only one person before their contents are expended, just like in games such as KotOR. Furthermore, performing first aid more than once on a person within a space of a day or so won't do much if you're not a professional, since in most cases wrapping someone in more bandages won't make them heal faster. If you complain about realism, I will ask if you'd rather we take the realistic approach of days or even weeks in the hospital.

Although Halon's first word's, and weak medical help were not very incouraging, he felt that he at least might as well spell it out to the man.

"Yes. Terminated right in front of me. I had him, unconscious and ready to bring up." At this point the agent couldn't help but glare at Halon, "Something attracted a giant sea creature that ate him while I returned to the ship. Sucker didn't even flinch from a shot between the eyes."

Checking out the makework coverup, he slowly got to his feet, wincing from the pain that radiated from his wounds. "Now please tell me you've had some amazing success up here, or that there's a med kit aboard."

So the suspect was dead.

Halon had merely been attempting to force their quarry to the surface. Had he known Zaron was stunned...

Halon met Ryn's irritated glare. In his defense the Ubese might have argued that Solass had charged off without even bothering to consult him and coordinate strategy but simply held his tongue instead. While never one to be concerned with such trivialities as his popularity (or lack thereof) among other MI5 agents, Halon didn't think he could afford to alienate any more of his colleagues on this mission and survive to see its completion.

"Now please tell me you've had some amazing success up here, or that there's a med kit aboard."

"There are several locked compartments inside. They may contain something useful."

Salek Zaron had invested in some good locks, but Ryn was just better. With the tools provided by the lovely disguised security kit, he first breached the lock on the floor compartment. Swinging it open, the two agents probably wouldn't have been surprised to find out that the son of a weapons dealer was carrying a small arsenal in a smuggler's compartment aboard his yacht. The presence of a pair of frag grenades and a thermal detonator meant that Halon's earlier plan of carving his way into the compartment had a not-insignificant chance of obliterating the agent and most of the yacht, though there were a few indentations that indicated that Salek Zaron had probably taken a few grenades with him when he went hunting. Apparently, he had opted to leave behind a wrist-mounted rocket launcher and six rockets- if he had had them with him when he confronted the agents, things might have turned out differently. For any melee needs, there was a single Ryyk blade, and by the designs on the blade, it had probably been part of a pair with its mate now sharing Zaron's rather unpleasant grave. Salek Zaron's true passion seemed to be rifles; not counting the one that had disappeared with him, there were four other rifles stored in the compartment. Perhaps the most mundane of them would be the BlasTech DLT-20A, a "mere" military-grade sniper rifle, in comparison to the Czerka CZ-24 Flamemaster flame rifle, and the rare and valuable Stokhli spray stick. Topping them all was the DXR-6 Disruptor rifle, the signature product of the Tenloss Criminal Syndicate, whose mere possession would be a felony on almost every world in the Republic, including Spira.

In comparison to the weapons locker, the other two lockers might seem a little underwhelming. The left one contained a datapad and a medpac, though the datapad would be unlikely to be easily accessible. The right locker contained several bottles of alcohol, and even more interestingly, two unmarked bottles that, given the nature of the man who owned the yacht, probably were even more damaging to the liver.

"Ideas," he responded to Ruana, somewhat dejectedly. "That is something I am currently lacking in. We did, however, manage to win a fair bit of coin at the tables planetside, which has now encouraged us to do something we may very well regret."

"Mr. Hunt," Stent said to Markus, fully aware that they were safe in their suite but deciding to call him by his alias for the sake of pounding it into his memory, "speaking of which, does that marvelous ship's locator gadget that you have tell us how and where to sign up for the tournament?"

He glanced back at Ruana with a sheepish grin. "I think we have become somewhat taken by the gambling bug. But it is for a good cause, I assure you, for where there is gambling, there is likely a certain criminal syndicate that has a grip on this vessel. And they are highly likely the reason that we are here in the first place."

Markus got out the Spot-On Locator and, minutes later, had signed up himself and Stent to the tournament, as well as confirming Boz's ill-gotten place. The twenty-two thousand credits that they had already won were sitting safely in the bank account, Halon was probably somewhere at the bottom of the Shinkai Anyss, and all was right with the galaxy.

"We got a lot of useful information from that INTERPOL agent, so I think we should start following it up." he put the Locator to one side and leaned back on the sofa, enjoying the release from his stuffy cover. "Assuming Halon and Ryn haven't done anything to put Gir Zaron and his syndicate on high alert."

Oh, Markus, If only you knew.

Just to refresh your memories, here is what we found out (the things I consider most salient are bolded for convenience):

Detective Jarus Dravaal of INTERPOL told us that Gir Zaron, one of the evil directors of the Tenloss Criminal Syndicate, notorious arms dealers and generally nasty people, was on the Empress. A ship which, according to other sources, acts as a safe meeting zone for criminals. Lots to follow up, there.

Stent sighed at the mention of their two other colleagues. He could not help but think that either those two were dead, or that all of them were going to be dead. Either way, they must continue working.

He answered Boz's statement. "Zaron and the Tenloss could very well be selling to anyone, which is why I believe that Detective Dravaal pushed us to seek out any kajidics. Certainly they would know something. I did not see any sign of them planetside, so perhaps we should start looking shipside. We could start off with the cantina's and restaurants."

The zeltron racked his brain for the names of the cantina that the spot-on locator had given them. He spoke as he tried to remember. "The first candidates that come to mind are the Starlight Lounge - for it being the high-end and possible location of wealthy crime lords. The second... the Arboretum - a possible location of a hutt trying to feel at home back in the swamp. And the third... there was the seedier cantina. What was it, someone's Liquids?"

Cracking the bottle open, Ryn took a swig. The liquid in the bottle was odorless, colorless and... tasteless. Actually, it did create a slight tingling sensation in his mouth. A paralytic poison of some kind- he'd had worse. It was likely that another toxin was in the other unmarked bottle.

While the Balosar set about ignoring the effects of the venom he'd just ingested, Halon took the opportunity to provide some first aid. With such a close injury, there was a limit to how much he could take care of with only basic medical knowledge and a medpac. Still, he'd managed a rudimentary patch at least, but they'd have to either be very careful to avoid drawing questions from security, or find a way to seek out a discreet medical specialist.

OOGM: Ryn tells the poison to get bent, and Halon heals him for 15 points of damage, putting Ryn at 60/90 HP, with Halon at 102/124 HP.
