Just received the book. Should I read it before seeing Rogue One? Will it ruin the movie experience? Or otherwise alter the experience? Those that have read it, do you regret anything? Thanks
It's a very early prequel, I don't think anything there would spoil the movie for you so you're free to read it. I think reading it before would improve your movie experience because it tells the past story of the Krennic and Erso characters and their relationships are written so wonderfully, it will certainly add a lot of weight when you seen them on screen. So I really recommend it. The worst it could happen is you finding the book boring.
I highly recommend reading it. I finished it and I think it's an excellent book that will most likely make me appreciate even more some of the characters in the movie. And no, I can't see how the novel could spoil or ruin anything in the movie.
Far from ruining anything, it will give you an excellent foundation for the movie. It's *exactly* what a tie-in novel should accomplish.
Exactly. It left me even more anxious to see Rogue One, now additionally as a continuation of the saga of Krennic v Erso - a storyline that I am now very invested in. It seems to me now not as much as Catalyst is a prequel to RO, as much as RO is now a sequel to Catalyst. That's ... an accomplishment.
I thought that Catalyst has the same relation to Rogue One as TPM does to ANH. It's basically the beginning of the story focussing on the PREVIOUS generation to the main hero
I agree 100% I'm 11 Chapters in and it really has added more depth to Orson, and Galen for sure. Very good read thus far. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone.
Read it for sure, but don't expect anything good. The book is incredibly boring, and broke canon. The bad guys were on Geonosis with anti-rad suits, yet nobody needed them in AOTC.
Spoiler The book mentioned that there were a couple of Battles that had taken place on Geonosis, so perhaps there was something that happened after we see Geonosis in TCW series. And that is why they needed the suits. Canon wasn't broken from my perspective.
Several commentators have called it one of the best in cannon SWU books. Without hesitation I recommend the audio book experience. Galen and Lyra Erso's situation and their relationship with Krennic is made clear. The relationship between Krennic and Galen can be said to be loosely inspired by Robert Oppenheimer and Gen. Leslie Groves of the Manhattan Project in the development of the A bomb. Best scenes for shear catty backstabby fun are Orson Krennic's with Tarkin. This book is chuck full of info that ties events of prequel films into ANH. The story begins after beginning of the Clone Wars and ends when Jyn is still a young child and the Empire is ascendent and the Jedi are gone. Anyone going to RO should treat themselves to viewing the Onoderon arc of Clone Wars to meet Saw Guerra and discover his relationship with Anakin. Here's a spoilery review of the book.https://www.inverse.com/article/24105-rogue-one-catalyst-erso-family
